Sunday Dinner, March 2, 2008

If you've read my blog for any time at all you know what the question mark on the chef's tray means: Diane ain't cookin' Sunday Dinner this week.

We have Easter play practice at church at 3:30 pm every Sunday until Easter so that doesn't leave much time after we get out of church at noon to get dinner on the table, eat and then get back to church by 3:30.

So we'll probably eat at the Mexican place in Trumann and if we have time we'll come back here to my apartment for a nap (hopefully! not likely, though) and then back to church for play practice. You know it's a small town when you can say THE Mexican place -- because it's the ONLY Mexican place.

What about you? What are your plans for Sunday Dinner this week? If you want to participate this week share your plans/menu in the comments.I've had Emmy all day today and I is TARD tonight. I love the little darlin' but she's a live wire. This ol' Grandma ain't used to wrestling an active rug rat and my body tells me about it more some days than others. But as my Daddy used to say, I wouldn't trade her for a farm in Texas.I'm not cooking Sunday Dinner but I did cook Saturday Supper. I made a big pot of homemade chili and a cast iron skillet of my homemade cornbread for supper. I cooked a big mess of pinto beans on Thursday and made sure I cooked enough so I'd have leftovers to add to my chili tonight. I made enough chili so I'll have leftovers for another meal later in the week or to freeze for another time.I'm still working on that baby afghan. I'd like to finish it tonight but I'll have to break some records to get it done. Maybe I can finish it Sunday or Monday.

There's a pic of one like I'm working on now. Click on the pictures for a little bigger and hopefully clearer view of them.

Also, both of those afghans are in soft baby pastels but for some reason the colors appear much brighter in the pictures. Don't ask me why. I'm not a photographer, I just take pictures.

It's just like the one I sent BARB. You remember - I mentioned that I was making some afghans to send to a certain Nana? Well if you didn't already figure it out, I was making them for BARB @ A CHELSEA MORNING.

Actually, I made the first one pictured for Barb and the second one is for her daughter, Krissy. Krissy is having a C-section Monday morning at 7:30 and Barb is just the teeniest bit excited. I'm nearly as excited as she is and and can't wait to see pictures of her brand new granddaughter, Avery.

Barb let me know that she's posting pictures of the afghans that I sent her and Krissy in her Sunday Meanderings post so I'm posting my pictures of them here for the few of you that don't read BARB'S BLOG.

(Really? Is the anyone who doesn't read Barb's blog?? If you don't I highly recommend it. She's GOOD!)

Congratulations, proud Nana Barb and Papa Rob! And to proud Mommy Krissy and Daddy Andy, and big brother Cameron! There's sure to be a party on Barb's blog this week. ;o)

My love and prayers for safe delivery and a healthy Mama and baby go out to you all this week, Barb. You might think there's a great disparity between my Spring flowered page dividers and the snowman on my signature tag, but apparently not this week where I live in Northeast Arkansas. Some of my daffodils and paperwhite narcissus in my yard are blooming now and more of my Spring bulbs are coming up and budding.

It's supposed to be nearly 75º on Sunday and almost 80º on Monday, with severe storms on Monday into Tuesday. Then after the cold front passes through we may have some snow! Now that's some crazy, weird, strange weather, even for Arkansas! I'm just hoping and praying we don't have tornadoes again but it's a possibility. Oy!
And I'll leave you all with this prayer: May God richly bless you by meeting all your needs, and may you have enough to share.

Maybe you'll get the snow this week instead of us!

Sunday dinner will be Mexican for you also--from Taco Bell! Yep, that's one of my sunday stops sometimes. Son Greg comes over to stay with Lee while I go to Kro*ger and a couple of other places. T Bell is so close I often make that our Sunday treat. Nachos Belle Grande!

I can't believe it is almost time for Avery to make her appearance. I guess I's better go over and hear some of Barb's excitement!

My Arkansas born and bred husband (Jim and Tim's dad) used to say "I wouldn't take a million $ for him but I wouldn't give you a nickel for 6 more just like him".

That about sums it up.

Hi Diane, thanks for stopping by my blog! Sunday dinner was supposed to be leftovers from the last couple of days, but we already ate them! So, I'll be pulling out of the freezer my Cheesy Chicken Crescents and throw together a salad.
The afghan is so pretty. I love all the pastels together.
Have a great Lord's Day!

There is a question mark on my dinner plans today too...as you know it is Hubby's day off...I do know that we are attending a folk guitarist at the library this afternoon...I guess we'll see what we do from there...

We are supposed to hit 50º today...melted quite a bit yesterday at 35º so this will help my mood...I'm sick to death of white!! I know better than to think it won't snow until at least May 1, that is when I'm told it is safe enough to plant, I didn't heed this warning last year and ended up having to cover plants a few nights, bother!

Have a great day, whatever you do!

Good Morning Diane,
I hope I'm not too early for coffee this mornig. The afghan you made is so beautiful. I do love the pastel colors. You did a great job on it. I know that Krissy will be very proud to get it. I'm sure Barb is just beside herself waiting on Avery to get here. I'm not cooking today either. We are going to one of my nephew's Birthday Party this afternoon and they are suppose to grill some Hamburgers and Hot Dogs and have Cake and Ice Cream. I have some Turkey Breast for me and the girls to have sandwiches tonight. I didn't cook any over the weekend either. We had Sonic for our supper last night. I imagine Miss Emmy does keep you on the go. I remember when our girls were that young, ohmygosh, you had to stay with them constantly to make sure they didn't get into things. My DH says he wouldn't trade me or the girls for 40 acres and a mule. LOL. I guess that is a good thing. LOL. Sounds like yall's Sunday afternoons will be busy till Easter. I know you can do it tho. Isn't this weather strange? It has been a beautiful weekend. I've had my A/C off on and on some over the weekend. I finally just turned the thermostat on the heat back some. I do hope we don't have any Tornadoes either, but we never know. My DH left out around 5:00a.m. this morning and I put up a new post and I am out visiting some now. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.

Hi Diane!

I just wanted to tell you that the afghans and hats you made for Barb's new Granddaughter are just gorgeous!! In fact, I'm writing to BEG you to tell me where you got the pattern for the second afghan you have pictured. I know the first one is granny squares, but I just love the squares in the other afghan. Please, please could you tell me where I can find this pattern?

I loved that picture Barb posted with Chelsea checking everything out. You could just see her getting ready to run off with that cute duck! LOL

Thanks Diane! Again, your projects are just beautiful!

God bless you ~ Julie

Diane, your afgans are beautiful. I don't know how you get the time to work on them with all that you do with Miss Emily. I know that the receivers will just love them.

Sunday Dinner: Let's see, I think I will be making a crock pot chicken cassarole, a green salad and a chocolate pudding pie for our Sunday dinner. I better get to work on that cassarole.

I love reading your blog and I get so excited on Saturdays waiting to see what your menu is. My husband is working today, but tonight I'm going to make either homemade chicken quesadillas or beans and fried potatoes. I'm thinking of going to our local vegetable stand and finding some fresh vegetables. Hope you have a very blessed Sunday!

The baby afghans are just beautiful Diane. I've seen them at Barb's too. What thoughtful, loving gifts.
Sunday dinner is going to be simple here - just pasta and salad. My daughter and I have a date to go see Phantom of the Opera this evening. I can't wait.
Have a blessed day Diane - and I hope you mangage to squeeze in a nap!

Diane, you are such a sweet lady to made those baby blankets for Barb. I'm sure that she and Krissy and Avery will love them.

We're having steak for dinner. Shelby is going to see her mother, so it's just Dom and me. I'll probably make some onion rings to go along with the steak. I'm using a flat iron steak - I just discovered them a little while ago and they are SOOO good.

Hi Diane,

I just love the baby afghan you are making. I don't think I'll ever be able to master what you have just done and that is to incorporate all those colors into the different squares. I don't think I've ever seen one like that. If I have, I forgot.

Anyway, we had a potluck dinner after church this morning to welcome our new preacher who started today. There was so much food. I made potato salad, but I had to bring some of it back because there was about 3 other dishes of the same thing. All kinds of meat, desserts, drinks, veggies. Name it and we had it. Just glad I didn't have to cook all that, lol. I'm glad you got a break from cooking Sunday dinner.

I hope you have time to visit me today.

Hugs,
Betty

Trying to control this twinge of jealousy over 70 degrees.

We just got more snow. Oh Lord send the warmth of Spring!

Hi Diane,

Well, your baby blankets are beautiful...that is so sweet of you!

I actually live in a small town, or small suburb of a larger town, and we have FOUR mexican restaurants. Only one of them is worth eating at though! LOL!

I'm jealous of your warm weather. We had nice weather yesterday (near 70!) but today it's been in the 20s and we have 6.5 inches of snow outside. Just lovely. I really, really start hoping for spring this time of year...and I really, really have several more weeks of wintry weather to endure. *sigh*

Hope you have a blessed week!

Well Diane it was DH's birthday so we grilled burgers, baked beans, corn, watermelon and his favorite - a cake from Dairy Queen. Your afghans are lovely, I know Barb was so so touched that you took the time to make them and send them to her. I'll be glad when it's this time tomorrow and it's all behind them, baby safely here, Mommy and Nana resting!

We had 74 degrees yesterday and wind, snow, and COLD today. Crazy place we live.

LOVE the afghans you sent to Barb. Just lovely.

Today we went to DC''s sister's for dinner, because their brother and one of his girls were here from Georgia. It was nice.

Talk about TARD - Kristen is really there! We all are.

Gollleee! You sure do nice work. I took the closeups to see if it was really as nice as it looked. It was. We had leftovers. Really nice ones. Roast Beef with gravy, rice and string beans.

Speaking of cornbread..I hope ya'll enjoyed that chili and cornbread without me!! :o)

Love those little baby afghans! So pretty. Ya done good.

Enjoy this pretty weather while it lasts.

Hi Diane, this is OT but I was wondering how to change my 'comments' (where you have 21 friends said "Hi!" to something more personal. I know it's probably something simple I'm overlooking. Could you help me?
Thanks.

I didn't cook on Sunday either. I had a tuna sandwich and garden salad for dinner. I've had vertigo from fluid in my middle ear I think. I've had a sinus congestion going on for several weeks. It's time for it to be gone!
Your baby afghan is really pretty. A whole lot of stitches going on. I'm crocheting prayer shawls for my great granddaughters right now. Lots of my prayers are incorporated into the stitches and I hope they remember to pray when they wear them too.
I hope you have a great week Diane,
Love to you

Sunday dinner here yesterday was stuffed green peppers. Today we may go out, I'm not sure.

The electrician was here yesterday and the sunroom now has power. And the carpet measuring guy was here today and that should be installed within a week or so. When it's finished I'll post some more photos.

This is for Julie @ MoreOfHim: I don't have an email address for you so I'll have to answer here and hope you come back and read it.

Hi, Julie. Sorry it's taken me so long to answer your question but I've been crazy busy the last several days.

I'm sorry, Julie. I don't have printed patterns for those afghans. The one is a basic Granny Square and the one with the popcorns I have no idea the name of it.

I've been making the basic Granny since I learned to crochet about 35 years ago. I just kind of do my own thing with the border around it.

The popcorn square I used to have the pattern for but lost it years ago. I've made so many of the afghans, literally dozens of them from baby size to queen size, that I have it memorized. I got the pattern in 1982 so I'm sure it's out of print. I haven't seen the pattern anywhere since I bought it with an afghan kit from Herrschner's 26 years ago.

I may try to type out the popcorn square pattern. Several other blogger buddies have asked for both the patterns. If I do I'll let you know and send you copies.

Love and hugs,

Diane

Good Morning Diane,
I see where you stopped by a little before 2:00a.m. this morning. You are either up early or up late. LOL. We sure did get alot of rain here yesterday. I'm guessing we got about 4 or 5 inches here. It was a very nasty day. I see where we are under a Winter Weather Advisory now until noon. I'm not getting my hopes up either for anything here. It will probably go around us like it always does. I think Ryan said that Jonesboro may get a dusting. I'm just glad we didn't get any severe storms yesterday. I do hope you are feeling better as well. I felt kind of bad yesterday afternoon, but I'm feeling okay now. I got up this morning around 1:30a.m. LOL. My sleep patterns are so crazy sometimes. Hey, don't forget this Saturday night we have to set our clocks up an hours. I always hate doing that. I wish they would leave the time just one way. I don't like having to set our clocks up an hour earlier because I lose an hour's sleep. LOL. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.

Hi Diane,

The afghans are so beautiful. What an incredibly thoughtful gift! It must feel good to think you've made something that will be such a treasure to Barb's grandchildren now and many, many years down the road.

After over a week I'm finally over the flu. That was a rough one! And now my husband has it. I'm trying to take care of him and stay away from him at the same time!:-) I cannot get that sick again!

A Tarzan yell?! How adorable! What a wonderful grandma you are!!

Good Evening Diane,
Well are you getting ready for the BIG SNOW we are suppose to get? We are under a Winter Storm Warning until midnight Friday night. They said on the 6:00p.m. weather forecast we could get anywhere from 4 to 8 inches. I guess we will have to wait and see tho. I know it sure is cold outside tonight. Me and the girls moved a few things over to the other house a bit ago, and that wind will cut right thru you. I hope you have been having a good week so far. Did yall get any Snow on Tuesday? We got just a tad bit, but not even a dusting. It did stick on a few things outside but that was about it. It was all gone later in the day. Take care my friend and have a great evening. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.

Diane,

Sorry I haven't been over for a visit in so long. There's been lots going on here. Michelle's incision opened, which meant she needed some extra care and then I came down with the flu. So much to do - so little time.

I love the afghans you make. When Brandon was born, I gave Michelle ten and do you know they're still going. The boys use them to cover up when they are cold. Of course they only go around their shoulders now, but they are still very useful after 12 years.

For Sunday dinner we had slow cooker chicken. Hubby made it by following my instructions and it was delicious.

Take care, Diane. I'm going now to look at the photos of Emmy. Yes, grandchildren can tire us out.

Blessings,
Mary

Oh looky, a comment from little ol' me. Watch out for falling bits of sky! ;)

Love, love, love the baby afghans! You've done such a great job on them, and I'm sure that the recipients appreciate their gorgeousness. Such things are a labour of love, aren't they? I can get really fed up with working on a grown up project partway through, but that never happens with baby stuff. Wonder why that is? ;)

Tell you what, I'll swap a few days of your crazy weather for our relentless cold. It's -23 C. as I type this, and it was -34 when I got up this morning, not factoring in the windchill either time. It has to break one of these days, but spring obviously isn't in a hurry to get here this time around.

Take care, my friend! Lots of love to you and yours. :)

Good Morning Diane,
Well, it is 3:50a.m. and we have no SNOW. Nope, not even a tad bit. It has dropped to 34 degrees since I've been up. I woke up around 2:15a.m. I am having some coffee now. I can hear the wind roaring outside at times. I just knew it was too good to be true. As I was looking at the radar a bit ago, it looks to have broken up some and gone around us once again. I guess we just live in the wrong areas for Snow. LOL. Me and the girls moved some bags and boxes out of their rooms here last night over to the other house. We only made a couple of trips because it was so windy last night. The wind would just cut right thru you. Take care my friend and have a great day/weekend. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.
