Sunday Dinner, March 23, 2008 & Happy Easter!

I'm afraid tis true: Diane ain't cookin' Sunday Dinner this week. Between Lamar's family reunion, play practice and the actual Easter play performance on Saturday night and then again on Sunday evening, plus a few spontaneous get togethers and meals eaten out, I've been chasing my tail since Thursday.

I have no idea where we'll eat or what the theme will be, but I'm not cooking or cleaning up after it this week. As soon as we get out of church at noon Sunday we'll go grab something to eat and then we'll have to be back at church even earlier than usual to run through the Easter play and then the actual performance will be at 5 pm.

So, what are your plans for Sunday Dinner this week? If you want to participate just share your plans/menu in the comments.
The Easter Bunny visited me early this year! I received a package in the mail today with a pretty Easter card, a cute little colorful crocheted purse and a little sumpin' sumpin' in it from the Easter Bunny. I don't know if it was intended for Emmy, but the purse is just her size and I'm going to give it to her. Also included was a Vi*sa gift card for a generous amount.

I won't share the amount because that would just be tacky, but I do appreciate your kind generosity, dear Easter Bunny. Thank you so much, and Happy Easter to you as well!

This is the second year that the Easter Bunny has anonymously sent me a gift, and I do enjoy our little game we have going on. Even if it was just a card or note without a gift, it's fun to wonder who my Easter Bunny might be and offer up prayers that they are even more blessed than I have been by their loving gestures.

I'll post pictures of the card and and the purse next week, and maybe a few pictures from Lamar's family reunion and from Easter Sunday at church.Lest the real meaning of Easter be lost amongst the colored eggs and chocolate bunnies, I'll leave you with some scriptures this week:

Mark 16

1And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

2And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.

3And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?

4And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.

5And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.

6And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.

May the true meaning of Easter dwell fully in your heart this Easter season.

How fun to receive a package from the Easter Bunny!

I'm going to mom and dad's for Easter dinner today. We'll eat around 5:00 since my brother has to work. I'm making a sweet potato casserole. My younger sister and her family won't be with us this year (they're going to her in-laws), so I'll have an Easter egg hunt for my three nephews next Sunday before we celebrate two birthdays - my brother-in-law's (he turned 39 on Friday) and my younger sister's 38th on Tuesday. The 30th was the soonest we could all get together since we wouldn't all be together for Easter.

Happy Easter to you, too, Diane!

Good Morning Diane,
"HAPPY EASTER" and "HE IS RISEN" indeed. I enjoyed your part about Easter. We all should always remember what Christ did and went thru for us. I don't blame you for not wanting to cook today. I mean after all the running around and being with Family over the weekend, you need a break right? I'm sure yall will find a good place to eat. What a nice surprise the Easter Bunny sent you. I am looking forward to seeing pictures of the purse and of Miss Emmy and the family reunion. Me and the girls don't have any plans for today. We did bring home some food from my Birthday Party yesterday and we will have some of that. Me and my DH brought home some food that we couldn't eat on Friday night when he took me out, so we have plenty to eat for today. I think the girls are going to Church this morning, but I'm not feeling too good, so I'm just staying in. Take care my friend and have a great Easter. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.

Happy Easter Diane!

I'm cooking a ham today, covered with pineapple slices and cherries and a brown sugar glaze. Definitely not Weight Watcher friendly! Also scalloped potatoes, fresh asparagus, and corn. Donna and Hank will be coming home from Florida this afternoon and will eat with us. Shelby is having dinner with her new boyfriend and his family.

Good morning and Happy Easter Diane. You certainly have been chasing your tail with all that you have been doing. I suppose you deserve a break from cooking on this blessed day. I wish I could come see your Easter play and enjoy the lesson.

I am cooking a big dinner today. I have to start right after posting this comment or I will never get it done. We have church from 2:30pm till 5:30pm. so I have to get most of the dinner prepared early. I'm cooking a ham, sweet potatos, steamed asparagus, a tossed salad, deviled eggs, french bread and a chocolate bundt cake for desert. If I have time I will make a cranberry relish for garnish. I've got four hours to pull it off before getting ready for church.

I hope you have a very special day. Give Emily a hug and a kiss for me. Talk to ya later.

Our plans fell through (friends have the flu) so I'm scrambling to get a late dinner on the table. Luckily I have a canned ham and boxes and cans of stuff since I have no time to prepare much from scratch, do laundry, mop the floor, take a shower, - whew!! Oh, and put on clean clothes - that might be appropriate. I invited Tim - he's working but he'll come by around six.

So - ham, sweet potato casserole, scalloped potatoes au gratin, deviled eggs, Bush's baked beans, three bean salad, honey glazed carrots, sourdough bread, and banana pudding.

I didn't even have to go the store.

Wish me luck - I'm going to need it.

We have a ham steak but I am not sure what else will go along with it. We decided to stay home today for dinner rather than joining the hoards of people trying to eat out at the various restaurants. But we did go out for breakfast.

I didn't feel like doing anything, but kids like something on Easter - grown ones. So I stuck chicken in crock pots with onion and lemon in the cavity - yummy and easy. M. potatoes, gravy, asparagus, cauliflower, rolls, cookies. Sounds like a lot, but all quick an deasy. And good help from my DIL.

Easter isn't a holiday for us, so we didn't have a big meal like the ones described in the comments. Everything sounds so delicious! But we had a nice dinner of chicken and vegetable stew.

Your gift from the Easter bunny sounds so wonderful. What a neat thing for someone to do! And well-deserved, I would say! :-)

Happy Easter to you and your family, Diane! And have a great week!

Hey mom. Happy Easter to you and very nice with the scripture. I wish everyone was taught the way you taught me about Jesus and all. The world would be a much better place I'm sure! The play was wonderful and good job by the way. Weird that we weren't together on Easter much this year though...oh well there was just so much going on with all of dad's family in and all. Hope you have had a great day. love you and see you tomorrow.

Happy Easter hon! I don't blame ya for not cooking a big dinner...I just made a light brunch. Oldest girl wasn't here as she spent the day with her future in-laws. Seemed odd not having her but oh well..that's life. Dh is feeling better today...still coughing and sniffling. Your Easter bunny surprise is so sweet. Give that Emmy doll a big hug for me! Love, Jen

I love your header. It is so springy!!
I want to have my blog done in all the ocean pictures I have taken in different places, I am going to work on that as soon as I come back from the Cayman Islands in April.
It has been a beautiful spring day here in Texas, I am still sitting here with all my windows open at 11 pm! I love the fresh air!
Have a great week Diane!

Hi Diane,

I didn't have to cook Sunday either. If you remember, we were in Ohio visiting kids and grandkids. Ed's daughter cooked Easter dinner for us, and she really went all out. She is a good cook, so I was glad to get some of her home cooking. I didn't even have to clean up.

Congratulations on having the Easter Bunny pay you a visit. How nice. Will be looking forward to pictures.

I'm glad you had such a nice day.
I like your Easter story too.
I haven't been doing much blogging because I have a very sore pointy finger. I had minor surgery on it today, but was told I will most likely have to see a surgeon. I pray not!!!
Take care Diane,

We've had flooding here too. I told my husband that we can just put a positive spin on it and Thank the Lord that the ponds and rivers aren't dry. I love rain, but I'm ready for some sunshine. You have a wonderful weekend as well. Your comments bring me such joy!
