Sunday Dinner, March 30, 2008, Pics & Other Stuff

I've been sitting here in front of the computer for an hour trying to decide what to cook for Sunday Dinner, and I finally came to a decision. We're having one of my faithful standbys, HAMBURGER SOUP and MY HOMEMADE PAN BREAD. (Click on the bold links to go to the recipes on MY RECIPE BLOG.)

What's on the agenda for your Sunday Dinner? Share your plans/menu in the comments if you want to participate this week. One reason it was so hard for me to decide what to cook for Sunday Dinner is that I'm full as a tick!

My sister CECIL'S hubby Brian has been gone for 6 weeks training for a new job, and he was home for the weekend. He's living 3 hours away and has been taking classes and testing for his job. Brian wanted to get together for supper tonight before he has to go back to work tomorrow, so he and Cecil invited me and Lamar and Brian's sister and her son to eat out, Brian's treat. We went to a local Japanese hibachi grill restaurant in Jonesboro and the food was great!

Cecil was nice enough to drive me to one of our favorite specialty coffee shops so I could get a white mocha (with 4 shots! Not that I'm hyped up on caffeine or anything like that!) before we came home, and that definitely contributed to the fullness factor.

But for some reason, because I'm so full nothing sounded good for Sunday Dinner. Does that ever happen to you? When I'm full nothing sounds good, but when I'm hungry almost anything sounds good.

Thanks Brian and Cecil for the supper! It was great, and so was the company. :-)Lamar's family reunion went well this past weekend, and the last of his out-of-state family left going back to Michigan on Tuesday evening. Between visiting with family and some other events I'll share in a bit, it's been extra busy around here this week.

I took quite a few pics this past week and I'll share some of them with you.

This pic was taken at the actual reunion the Saturday
before Easter. That's Lamar's brother, Mark,
in the center of the pic in the black shirt,
sitting down. This is Mark and Lamar.
The next couple of pics were taken on Tuesday
evening at a buffet in Paragould, Arkansas.
We'd never been there before but I have to
say, it was excellent. They had fried catfish,
fried chicken and all the trimmings, plus
much more than I can name here.

That's Lamar's cousin and his daughters
from Dearborn, Michigan in the first pic.The next one is Lamar's Mom and 3 of her sisters.
Lamar's Mom is the one on the back right.
The one seated is the one visiting from Michigan. After we all said our goodbyes, the Michigan
crew left from the restaurant on their long
drive home to Dearborn. These pictures were taken on Easter Sunday
of Jessica, Jason and Emmy. They left church
Sunday morning going to be with Lamar's
family before we could take any pictures
with my side of the family.Jessica and Emmy. And a few that were taken in our yard
this past Tuesday. Emmy loves being
outside, as you might gather from
these pictures.

My sister Sue and Emmy.Still working on that "learning to walk" thing...And I had to throw one in of Grandma and Emmy.
Besides all the coming and going with Easter, the Easter play at church (which went wonderfully, by the way!) the family reunion and such, I've been extra busy this week. I've had Miss Emmy almost every day this week, and on Tuesday Jessica helped me (0kay, really Jessica did MOST of the work) empty out my old freezer and move it out so I could get a new upright freezer into my inside utility room.

Yay! Only thing, most of the things in there had to be moved to get the new freezer in there, then moved again after the freezer was settled into its final place. Bless her heart, Jessica worked like a fiend, sweeping, mopping and moving things.

Thanks, babe! :-)

After the dust settled, literally, and everyone was gone, I got in there and did some rearranging, sorting, tossing and more cleaning. I'm pretty satisfied with things in there now. My nephew Danny and his wife Mikki came and picked up my old chest freezer to use until it kicks out or they get a better one.

The old freezer still has a lot of use left in it but I've wanted an upright for a long time, and my dear, sweet, handsome, intelligent and loving son in law, Jason, got me a good deal on this new one. He's an assistant manager at a rent to own place and he's been keeping an eye out for me for a freezer.

Thanks, babe! :-)

But, after getting my new freezer settled in, my fridge was looking awful compared to my clean new freezer, so I begged pleaded asked Jessica very nicely if she'd consider helping me clean up my fridge sometime this past week. She very sweetly agreed to help me and once again, did most of the work. So Thursday afternoon was spent cleaning the fridge, although most of the time all I did was dry crisper drawers and keep Emmy occupied.

Thanks, babe! :-)Coming up next week I have a Steven Curtis Chapman CD giveaway planned, so be sure to check back in to see if you might be interested. Here's a link to a video of CINDERELLA, one of the new songs from the CD I'll be giving away.Whew! That was a marathon! I'll try to make time to post more often rather than heaping a whole week's worth of posts on you at once.

Y'all have a blessed Sunday. May God meet all your needs, and may you have enough to share.

Whew! You've been busy! I enjoyed looking at all your pictures and reading about your goings-on, as always!

I think for lunch today I'll stop at Subway and grab a sub instead of going out for a big lunch with the singles after church since we're having our Easter egg hunt and having a birthday celebration (my sister's and brother-in-law's) at mom and dad's later today.

I better get ready for church! It's going on 8:00!

Have a wonderfull week!

Full as a tick is pretty darn full, Diane. LOL Right up until this morning, I was pretty sure we were having saltines and 7-up for Sunday dinner, but after four days of this horrid stomach flu, I finally woke up this morning feeling human. So now I have to completely rethink dinner. :-)

Congratulations on that new upright freezer. Those old chest freezers take up so much room, although the top surface of them sure comes in handy.

Happy Sunday and happy new week, sweet friend.

Wow... what a busy girl you have been. I bet you met yourself coming as you were going...lol

That catfish dinner sure does sound good. That is one thing I miss about not living in Louisiana any longer. When you ask for a catfish dinner your plate comes out heaping full with catfish. In the north you are lucky to get three pieces of fish.

Hope you have a wonderful relaxing Sunday.

Hi Diane,

You must have been up really late putting that post together. I really, really enjoyed every bit of it. I don't know what we are having today for dinner as our over played out and we had to order another one. It won't be here until sometime Tuesday. We may be out or have soup and crackers.

I enjoyed all the pictures of your family. From the looks of those you all had a really nice time together.

Have a good rest of the day, Diane, and may God bless you as well.

Love,
Betty

Wow, Diane, what a week you've had! I love all the pics of the reunion. I just love all pics, period! I enjoy seeing families and the resemblances.

I know what you mean about the food planning. If I'm hungry, even a PB&J looks great to me, but if I'm full nothing sounds interesting!

I enjoyed all the pics of Ms. Emmy and the family. I have pics that we made on Easter that I need to share soon. I'm still having problems with my blood sugar fluctuating so I go back to the doc tomorrow to see what he can do. Probably he will add another pill and try that. It just makes me feel so run down and draggy at times. I'll be glad when it levels out and I can get back to half-way normal anyway.

Congrats on your new freezer AND clean fridge!! You have a great daughter and son-in-law! :O)

Love and Hugs,
Hope

PS: I enjoyed your marathon! :O)

You did have a busy week Diane!!
I know what you mean about nothing sounding good when you're full. It's a great time for me to go grocery shopping because I'm not tempted to buy things I shouldn't be eating anyway (although - later in the week I sort of wish I had some junk food!).
I love all the pictures. It really is good to get together with family.
That little Emmy looks adorable in her Easter finery. She is growing so quickly.
Have a restful day Diane. I'm glad you got that new freezer. Sounds really nice.

Your faithful standbys sounds taste - we had roast beef and it was great.

Thanks for sharing the lovely pics - what a lovely gathering!

AND of course: To see Emmy clapping hands is so cute!

Wishing you a great week ahead :-)

Hey mom...you are very welcome for helping and Jason says you are welcome too. And thanks for talking last night...I really appreciated it. We did have a great time with family last weekend. I really enjoyed it. The Easter play was so good !!! The afternoon of Easter was good too...wish we could have had a big dinner though...maybe next year and Emmy will be able to run and hunt eggs! Love you...Erma

We went out for Mexican food for our Sunday dinner. The food was OK but the service pretty poor. It will be a long time before we go back there.

You drink quite a mocha! The white chocolate ones are a little too sweet for my taste and I sure don't get 4-shots of espresso, but aren't they good when made the way you like them to be?

Have a good week.

Sunday dinner - spaghetti and a salad as well as "Extreme Moose Tracks" ice cream for desert. I put the spaghetti sauce in the crockpot before church and it was ready when we got home.

Miss Emily looks cute in her Easter Dress and just look at her trying to walk. Before you know it she will be walking on her own and you will be chasing her all around, get ready Grandma.

I'm glad you had such a good time with your family.

I hope you catch your breath after all the busyness of last week!

Lamar and his brother look a lot alike! And that granddaughter is getting cuter by the day. Enjoy the last bit of her not walking, once they take off everything is up for grabs!

Emmy looks so much like her mommy and grandma. We're looking forward to more than one day in a row of nice weather!!

We ate out at nice little place yesterday - lots of church people coming in.

I'm getting a new washer and dryer tomorrow, so have to stay home from work to be here when they come - they don't care about my schedule, being home in the afternoon and all!

Beautiful pictures, Diane, and great post! :-) Sounds like the family reunion was lovely. It's so nice when everyone can get together, even if it's only for a short time.

I'm trying to remember what we had for dinner on Sunday. I'm so sick with morning sickness (which lasts ALL day!) that I've mostly just been eating plain rice. My husband has been fending for himself in the food department lately.

Have a great week, Diane! :-)

XOXO,
Sammy

Good Afternoon Diane,
Your Hamburger Soup on your Sunday Dinner sounds good. I like soup on a cold day or evening myself. I may have to make some soon. Easter Sunday I was feeling sickly, so I didn't eat anything till late that afternoon. We had some leftovers we had brought home from the Mexican Restaurant in Manila that we had gone to on Saturday night and I was able to eat my part of the leftovers. I'm not sure if I will have time to cook this coming weekend or not. Both of the girls have softball games on Friday night here and then they both have to finish their Pre-Season Tournaments up on Saturday as well. If it keeps up this raining, it may be rained out again. I enjoyed the pictures of your Family Reunion. Lamar and his brother favor alot. I really like the Family picture of Jessica, Emmy, and Jason. They make a beautiful Family. Of course you look like a proud Grandma holding Miss Emmy as well. I'm sure she will start walking before too long. I'm glad you got a new freezer. My Mom has an upright freezer too. It was just too hard on her to reach down into the chest type freezer with her arthritis and all. She does have a small chest type freezer that they bought from us back in 1999. We had a large chest type freezer but when we moved, we gave it to my DH's Uncle. My DH bought me a side by side Stainless Steel Refrigerator year before last and I really love it. It has ice and water thru the door. My dream is to have a stainless steel kitchen someday. I'm glad Jessica helped you with all the cleaning and everything. Sounds like yall had a good time with Cecil and her hubby. I've never been to the restaurant of the Japanese Hibachi Grill before. I may have to try it out sometime. Most of the time we go to the Chinese Restaurant there by K-Marts (where Perkin's used to be) and eat. They have seafood there which I really love. I fixed me and the girls some Chicken Strips and Fries for our supper last night. I don't know what I will fix tonight. My DH will be home after while. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.
They say we may be getting some severe weather later on. I sure hope not.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.
