It's Almost Spring!

It seemed appropriate to put up my new header and colors now, since Spring is set to arrive at about 2 am in the morning Central Standard Time. Although going by the temperatures on Wednesday and overnight into Thursday you can't really tell that it's supposed to be Spring here. It didn't make it above 50ºF today and it's only 37ºF right now at midnight.

If this Spring is typical for past Springs in Northeast Arkansas we'll still have quite a bit of cold weather yet, and maybe even some more snow. The usual last frost here is April 15th but it's not unheard of for us to have frost even later. April 15th is just the average last frost.

Just to keep things interesting we'll probably have some hot weather along with our cold weather, and it's not unusual for us to have both the hot weather and cold weather the same day, with some storms and tornadoes somewhere in the middle of the hot/cold war for dominance.

Ah, Spring in Arkansas! One thing about it, it's never boring. Here's a picture from my archives that I've posted before. It's from Easter 1973, I think. That's my sister DONNA, holding her son Frankie, my sister CECIL and me. If I'm right about the year, and I think I am, Cecil is 8 here and I'm 9 years old.

Sorry for the poor picture quality but this picture was developed in August of 1974, so you do the math. And my family was notorious for their procrastination in getting pictures developed so that's the reason for the discrepancy in the date the picture was made and when it was actually developed.

Dig those snazzy white knee socks and the sleeveless jumpsuits! We were stylin' now, let me tell you. Note Donna's updo. She had her hair fixed nearly every week. And she worked in a Singer wood working factory! My how things have changed.

Notice the hen in the right background? That was a particular favorite of Cecil's and she named her Penny. As in, "Henny Penny", I suppose.

Memories, Memories......I had asked AMY @ SPLIT DECISIONZ for some advice on changing my blog to a 3 column template because I had thought about adding BlogHer ads to my blog, but decided against it. I even learned how to code my template for 3 columns and have a test template ready to use, but after some research of the financial side of it I found that I can't legally put the BlogHer ads on my blog because they report what they pay you to Soc*ial Sec*urity.

Now for most people that's not a problem, but since I'm legally disabled and drawing disability, any earned income is counted against me. I'd end up worse off rather than better, so while I'm sure it's a good source of a little extra income for some, it's not for me. I had thought they might pay it into a Pay*Pal account and then I could use it to donate to needy bloggers and such, but apparently not. And I so hoped I could get a little extra spending money from my blog to help others, but it didn't work out for me.

I'll keep my 3 column template though because I still might use it sometime later down the road, or someone else might want a copy of it.Lamar's family is having a reunion this weekend and I have Emmy all day on Thursday and then on Friday afternoon, plus we'll be performing our Easter play at church on Saturday night and again on Sunday evening, so the next several days are going to be busy for me. Lamar has family coming in from Texas and Michigan, among other places, and some we haven't seen in several years.

I have to cook something for the reunion potluck on Saturday and I think I'm taking MY CROCKPOT CHICKEN AND DRESSING. As of this moment I have no idea about Sunday Dinner but I'll do my best to post Saturday night. Hopefully by then I should have a fairly good idea about my plans and/or menu.I've got to get up with Emmy in the morning so I'll post this and try to get in bed at a reasonable hour. That's hard for this night owl to do!

Y'all have a great rest of your week, and Happy Easter!

Diane, I can't believe I am that much older than you. In 1973 I was already married for 2 years....Loved the picture. I'll have to go check out your recipe for Chicken and dressing. I am cooking a ham for Easter dinner and having the kids over to enjoy it.

Have fun with your Easter play and enjoy your company. I suppose you survived your rainy weather. I watched it pass over you on the radar and wondered about you. Give Emily a hug and a kiss for me. Talk to ya later.

Hi Diane,
Both my children were born by 1973!!
I remember when you posted that picture and I enjoyed seeing it again.
Sounds like you're going to be so busy (as most of us are these days!)
Love your new header...dogwoods grew around my grandparents cabin, but they had white blooms..
love and hugs!!

I'm getting ready to fax my paperwork off to BlogHer today. For me, I think it will work. I sure hope so since I'm scrounging around, trying to hang onto this house. I'm sorry it won't work for you, but I understand how it would work against you.

Your Arkansas weather sounds crazier than my Colorado weather and that's saying something. LOL

Hello, Diane, I'm so glad you posted today. Thanks for putting up the photo. I think those are such fun. And were you wearing *sandals* with the snazzy knee socks? Where *are* the fashion police when you need them! ;)
I love your new header. Dogwoods are one of my alltime favorite. When we came back to Ohio it was so delightful to me to see them peeking through the woods, growing wild everywhere.
What a nice thing to have family come in for Easter. You must post a photo or two of the Church program, too. I'm a night owl like you, and do most of my work on my site after midnight.
Hey, crockpot chicken and stuffing sounds very good. Do you have that posted?
I pray God's protection over you and your family during the tornado season. We have them here, a-plenty, too, but I think you're a bit more exposed?
Love you,
Nancy

Our current temps are about the same as yours. Here they are about 10 degrees below the average for this time of the year. And I can still see snow on Cultus Mountain to the east of town. I keep hoping for spring like weather but the long range forecast doesn't look promising.

My Annie had the same problem with Social Security. Sometimes she felt good enough that she could have helped out substituting in various places but she couldn't do some of them as they would have had to pay her. But she did find some fun places to volunteer.

Good Afternoon Diane,
I am now trying to catch up with everyone. LOL. I finally got up around 10:10a.m. when my DH called me. I am still having my coffee. Would you care to join me for a cup while I visit? I love your new header. I have always loved Dogwood Trees. Years ago when I was married the first time, I had a White Dogwood in my front yard and it was so beautiful. I do love the Pink Dogwoods much better tho. I love the picture of you, Cecil, and Donna. I do enjoy looking at old pictures like that. "THANK YOU" for sharing such a wonderful picture from your past. I do remember the white knee high socks myself. LOL. I do think I wore them quite a bit. The jumpsuits I had a couple of them myself. If this picture was taken in 1973, I was 11 years old that year. I also remember seeing alot of women having that same type of hair do that Donna had in the picture. I remember my Mom going to the beauty shop once a week and having her hair done. My DH's side of the Family is having a reunion on Saturday, but we already have other plans for that day. We may go over there and visit later on in the day tho. I don't blame you for not doing the BlogHer. You sure don't want anything to mess you up on your Disability that you just got started. I've never even heard of BlogHer. Sounds like you have some busy days ahead of you. Since my DH will be gone for Easter, I'm not sure what me and the girls will do just yet. We got some hail here on Friday night as well. I was in the bed asleep and it woke me up hitting my bedroom window. I bet Miss Emmy is getting all excited about Easter huh? Has she had her picture made with the Easter Bunny yet? They are having the annual Easter Egg Hunt here at the City Park on Saturday, but our girls have outgrown that. I'm not sure if I'm going to get them an Easter Basket or not. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.

I can hardly wait for Kristen to get back to work next week so she can take my winter look down! She has all the stuff she does on Blogger on her work computer - yikes! Anyway, it's time to get rid of the snowmen. Wish I was savvy enough to do it myself. She's going to have to teach me so I don't have to depend on someone else. But she loves doing it.

I am so glad my post blessed you in the middle of the night! I am blessed every time I think of those words.

Just yesterday I was remembering how you used to post old pictures so often - I do remember seeing that picture before and love it again. Oh, yes, the updo's done every week. I had to sleep on my finger to keep my "ratting" from looking too ratty! We tried everything - the most popular was wrapping t.p. around the head. What good that did, I'll never remember!

Diane,

I'm sorry I'm so late getting over. I LOVE the photo. I remember those jumpsuits. Michelle wore them. She was five years old when your photo was taken. And that hair do... I used to go every week to have my mop of hair put into a French Roll. Today my hair has thinned so much there wouldn't be enough of it for a do like that.

I absolutely LOVE your header. I will put my spring one up after Easter. It's nice to be able to redecorate our blogs for the season and yours looks fantastic.

Sorry that your idea for extra income didn't work out. It would have been nice to have a few extra dollars to do with as you wish ... helping others and such.

Take care, my friend and a blessed Easter to you and yours.

Hugs,
Mary
