Sunday Dinner, April 8, 2007, & Sad News

First I have some sad news to share.

My sister Cecil's dear mother in law has been battling cancer for a few weeks now. By the time she was diagnosed it was all over her body. At about 6:30 pm Saturday evening she lost the battle and slipped away.

I just posted a little about this HERE at Cecil's blog so her readers will know the situation. Cecil and her husband Brian are
devastated, of course, but coping. They've had a bit of time to come to terms with the fact that Brian's Mom most likely didn't much time left here in this world and are doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances.

Brian's Mom leaves her husband and a grown daughter and 2 grandchildren in addition to Brian, and many other friends and relatives.

I know that Cecil and I share many of the same readers but if you don't happen to read Cecil's blog I wanted to share this with you. I know that Cecil and Brian and his family would appreciate your thoughts and prayers for them at this time.

Thank you in advance for your prayers.
This has ended up being the most tiring, busy day, y'all. Several months ago our ladies' group at church planned a bake sale for Easter morning. People will buy stuff for their Easter dinner, right?

Well, Cecil hosted a baby shower for Jessica, and guess what? About the only free
date left for the shower was...Yep, you guessed it! Saturday afternoon. More on the shower, complete with pics, either Sunday night or Monday.

Cecil came on to the baby shower knowing that her mother in law was as bad as she could be and might not live until she could get to the hospital, but she was a trooper and the shower went very well. Of course the situation with her MIL was hanging over our heads the entire time. Cecil did make it to the hospital an hour or so before she passed. I'd barely made it home and started making supper when I got the phone call.

I'm making 5 dozen homemade yeast rolls and 2 old-fashioned homemade coconut cakes from scratch. As of 1 am Easter morning I have 3 dozen rolls done and 2 dozen in the oven. Then I have to make the 2 cakes still yet. Yeah.

All these things just heaped together made for a very stressful day. And night, in my case. Any other time I wouldn't have been so rushed and could have taken my time with the baking, but it just worked out with the shower that I couldn't start baking until about 7 pm.
Sunday Dinner is very tenuous and uncertain at this point. I truly have no idea what I'll be doing for the noon meal. I also have no idea who will be here for sure. For now I'm not planning a thing. I know I have baloney and hotdogs if it comes to that.

I'm hoping that the rest of you have a much better grasp on your special Easter Edition of Sunday Dinner. Just share your plans in the comments.
I had really planned to do a very meaningful Easter post, but after today's events I just don't have it in me right now.

But I think these simple words say it all:

Jesus came.
He died for our sins.
He arose on the third day.
He sits on the right hand of the Father.
He is coming again.
Soon.

I wish you all a Happy and Joyous Easter.

I was just over at Cecil's blog (you lose the alphabet contest) so I knew about her mother-in-law.

I'm so sorry.

Our Easter dinner is simple. Precooked ham and everything else out of cans and packages.

Have a blessed Easter.

Much love to all.

Dearest Diane,

First of all, my sincere sympathies to Brian and Cecil...it's hard losing a loved one no matter what time of year but it just seems worse when it's around a holiday. My thoughts and prayers are with them and the family.

You certainly have been a busy bee...when are you going to relax my friend??? You need someone to pamper YOU for a change:-)

Easter dinner here will consist of ham, scalloped potatoes, meatpie, stuffing, carrots, corn, brussel sprouts...dessert will be the Easter/birthday cake I made:-)

Wishing you and yours a very wonderful Happy Easter!! xoxo

Cecil and Brian will be in my prayers....

Don't tell Sister about those homemade coconut cakes or she'll drive in the car and head to Arkansas as soon as she gets out of church today. :-)

We're already home since we went to 8 o'clock church this morning, and the sausage is frying as I speak. Bacon, sausage, biscuits, scrambled eggs, and a blueberry coffee cake. We'll save you some if you want to stop by. :-)

So sad, Diane. Cecil and her family are in my prayers.

Days like that just wipe me completely out. Imagine starting all that baking at 7 p.m. I know you're a night owl, but boy, you know you're going to be up ALL night when you have that much to bake and start at that hour.

I'd lay that baloney on the counter by the bread and say, "Help yourself!" if I were you.

No plans here at all. The kids are with their men's families today so it's just me and Rob. I'm thinking taco salad. Seriously, that would be perfect for me and him. We never have a big Easter dinner here. We did when the kids were little but haven't done it in years now.

Yes, your simple words say it all. I plan to do a very simple devotional today, if I get to my Sunday Meanderings at all. It's raining here and I'm feeling about as lazy as can be.

But Happy Easter to you, dear friend. I'm sorry it's tinged with this great loss and sadness.

Cecil and her family will be in my prayers.

We just finished Easter brunch over here. Breakfast casserole with sausage and baked french toast with fresh fruit on the side. I'll probably top that off with some Reeses Peanut Butter eggs here in just a little bit.

Hope y'all have a good Easter, in spite of the sadness.

Just stopping in for a quick hello between family gatherings. I saw your post on Cecil's last night and of course am keeping them in my prayers.
Our dinner today: Ham, turkey, lamb, baked beans, many salads, and a lovely dessert buffet. It's potluck, so I'm never sure exactly. It always good!
Hope you get some time to relax and enjoy the special blessings of this day.
Love and hugs!!

BooMama is right about those coconut cakes. If you don't already have a buyer, consider them SOLD!

I'm looking forward to hearing about Jessica's shower and seeing pictures of all the "loot".

All good wishes for a very Happy Easter...

Your final list says it all! Nothing more is necessary. I am sorry you've had such a stressful week-end and for Cecil and her husband.

We had 19 people for dinner after sunrise service with no sun (we ended up in the church because it was about 25 degrees), then breakfast with our church family, then singing the cantata in the early service, then dinner with everyone bringing something wonderful. It was tiring for me, but really enjoyable. It snowed much of the day - weird!

Take it easy, dear friend.

Am sorry about your relative dying, and sorry you've had troubles and sickness. It's about time some good news came your way, like a beatiful grandchild. And Barb's right, it's o.k. to have a do-it-themselves meal. I keep
b o l o g n a and bread handy all the time, for emergency supplies.

So sorry to hear about Cecil's MIL. It's so sad to lose them.

I had a wonderful Easter. My great niece got baptized so I went to her church. Afterwards we had all kinds of yummy food back at my nephew's house; ham, turkey, sausage rolls, potato salad, deviled eggs, macaroni salad, sweet potato casserole, corn bread salad (yum), fruit pizza, chocolate cake, and numerous other goodies!! That woman can cook!!!

We were all stuffed but it was very nice to get to see some of my family and visit.

I am so sorry Diane. All of you will be in my prayers. I can only imagine how you are feeling. My immediate thought was that it is for times such as this that Jesus came. He conquered death, He came to give us abundant life, and He came to show us who the Father is. And the Father knows and cares about our grief and sorrow and days that just wipe us out. I pray He will strengthen and comfort all of you.

Coming by to visit again...
I'm sorry to hear about your sister's mother in law. My husband lost his mother to cancer about the time he and I were engaged. :(

And it sure seems like you had a busy week...and boy, can I relate! I think it was one of my busiest ever!

A belated Happy Easter to you!
