Sunday Dinner, November 19, 2006

So....this Sunday Dinner post is going to murder 2 fowl with one rock. My church is celebrating our Thanksgiving Dinner with a potluck dinner at noon after regular church services on Sunday morning. Therefore I'm cooking enough

tonight so I'll have plenty to take to church tomorrow for the potluck.

I am cooking 3 lbs. of white beans, or soup beans or Great Northern beans, according to what you call them where you live. I added some chunks of ham cut from a hambone and they are cooking up very nicely, thank you very muchly. There's a photo to the left. Do you have any idea how big a pot of beans 3 lbs. makes? My 5-quart Dutch oven wouldn't come close to holding them. I had to pull out one of my Mama's huge aluminum pots that she cooked with when the whole crowd was home for the holidays or some other special occasion. It doesn't look all that big in the picture, but trust me, that is a big cauldron of beans, folks.

I also have a big pot of sweet potatoes cooked and cooling so I can peel them for candied sweet potatoes. I'm going to make my Texas Hash, which is a glorified name for hamburger, macaroni and tomatoes with my own seasonings, and some weinies and sauerkraut. That's my supper tonight and my Sunday Dinner for tomorrow. If I get really inspired before bedtime, I may make a dessert, but at the moment I don't
have anything in mind.

What are your plans for your Sunday Dinner? If you're cooking, what's on the menu? Going out to eat? Where? What do you plan to order? Going to Grandma's house? Or are YOU Grandma? Share your plans in my comments.
This has absolutely nothing to do with my Sunday Dinner, but it has been on my mind a lot lately, and from what I've been reading on other blogs, a lot of my fellow bloggers are struggling with it, also. Beta Blogger is here, like it or not. Several of our compatriots have already made the switch, including Andre, Sarah and Brenda. Many more have the same thoughts I have, which is, "Wait and see," or even, "I'll switch over when Blogger makes me, but I'll be kicking and screaming!" I've been seeing that notice on my dashboard for about 2 weeks now, that my new version of Blogger is ready for me to make the switch, but I just keep ignoring it. I've read everything I can find about Beta Blogger and have asked everyone I know who's switched what their thoughts are about Beta. Especially when it first came out there seemed to be a lot of bugs still plaguing the Beta version. From what I've gathered, it still has a few issues, but surely, I say surely it can't have many more problems than the old blogger. Almost every one of my regular reads has posted or commented lately about their angst with Blogger.

So...today I took action, as it were. I emailed the designer that made up my template and asked her if I should be worried to take the plunge and switch over to the Beta Blogger. She hasn't answered me yet, but if and when she does, I may be taking my bloggy life in my hands and making attempting the switchover sometime in the next few days. I'm breaking out in a cold sweat just thinking about it, but I'm afraid if I don't make the switch myself, I might try to access my blog one day soon to find Blogger has made the switch for me, with disastrous results. Sarah kindly tried to reassure me after she made the switch with little apparent difficulty, but I'm still skeered.

So if my blog disappears into cyberspace oblivion in the next few days, it will probably be either Beta Blogger or my own techie ineptitude at fault, or some combination thereof. Never fear, I have my template and all my bloglines backed up, so my look may be different, but I'll find some way to blog if the worst happens.

In the meantime, may all your needs be met, and may you have enough to share.

Love and Blessings,

Oh my SWEET goodness, Diane. Thank you for reminding me that I only need to make sure I have a current copy of my blog. I have two practice blogs and I have a copy of my Susie-designed template but I'm so nervous about making this switch, I forgot about those.

I don't know. I just don't need any horrible surprises right now. I want to switch, but I'm holding out. You go first. LOL

Dinner? Split pea soup and cornbread. But wait! My recipe for split pea soup is unbelievable.

"Skeered." Just one of the many reasons I love you. xoxoxo

I've been worried about this Beta thingy too. Every time I make even the slightest change to my blog my heart is literally hammering in my chest. I hold my breath waiting to see if the whole thing is just going to go "poof". I will wait until you all go first. I had fits just switching isp's. I can't take any more changes in my life right now :)
Not sure about Sunday dinner - but I think steak, baked potatoes, mushrooms and salad. An easy meal to fix between games!

I don't plan many meals ahead. I'm not sure what I'll have tomorrow for dinner yet.

I used wordpress for awhile before I changed to beta blogger. They are very similar other than templates. You don't get many choices on templates with beta and I had one I wanted to use and no idea how so, I had a friend set up my template because I am html ignorant. I can't find anything on the net who has self made graphics for it yet (that load auto with htlm included) So far that seems to be the only downfall for me. I like the way you can put catagories in and adding list etc. is easier. Photos seem to load faster, etc. Hopfully if you change you will like it. As for your Sunday dinner...Ohhhh yummy.

I'm also being reminded every time I access my dashboard that my version of Beta Blogger is ready...I'm still ignoring it! lol I'm still hearing too many horror stories about it...one just said DON'T DO IT because she apparently is having all kinds of problems! So, until Blogger forces me and gives me no choice, I'm staying put! Ok ok just call me chicken! lol Sunday dinner...hmmm no idea yet, I'll have to look in the freezer to see what I have! Maybe a meatpie and french fries. Have fun at your church Thanksgiving dinner...yup, that's a lot of beans!!! Hugs xoxo

Now that is one huge pot of beans! Wish I'd soaked some last night as bean soup would taste good on this gray day!
I tried to convert to beta. Did all the things they asked and got the message that they could not change me. I was so nervous pushing the button to change and then that! Now what??
Dinner tonight? pork loin, sweet potato and apple stuffing, steamed broccoli and salad.
Always love your Sunday dinner posts :)

Diane, when I saw that picture of the kettle of beans it reminded me that I've been hungry for them so I made a beeline for the kitchen and put two pounds of what my mama called brown beans to soak. I don't have a ham hock but found some bacon in the freezer. I always use a good amount of onion and a little garlic too. I like to make a lot so I can freeze it for lazy days easy meals.
It's an awfully stormy day here, 50 degrees with rain and wind howling around my little house. It's a good day to be inside with a kettle of beans cooking!
About blogger, I'm also reluctant to make the change and am dragging my feet too.

We just had hamburgers and brats for lunch today, because our big Thanksgiving feast is this afternoon (right in the middle of the biggest Bronco game of the year - oh, my! I signed up to bring two pies, but made a cake last night, so may only make one pie, since the "kids" aren't going after all - they have to go to a birthday party this afternoon instead - a forgotten birthday, uhoh! I'm making an apple pie from Granny Smith apples, the best as far as I'm concerned. I made a German chocolate cake last night (not from scratch).

I'm scared to death to change also. Do we all have to change eventually??

Your big pot of beans looks yumm-o!!
I have had the message on my dashboard also for a few days, and last night backed up a copy of my template, and took the plunge ... I pressed the button (I was pretty scared, but did it anyway !!). Well, what do you know, I was rejected. It appears my blog is too big, or there are too many comments, or whatever. Anyway, they are in the process of fixing problems so people with bigger blogs, or whatever, can make the switch. So, therefore, I have no choice ... I stay with old Blogger for now. Can't say that bothers me, though. I'm not good with change ... teehee !!
Have a wonderful week.
Take care, Meow
