Sunday Dinner, July 4, 2010

Is it just me, or are Sundays rolling around more frequently than they used to?

Well, either way, we're having Sunday Dinner here this week, although I'm not cooking most of it. My sister, Ducky, is cooking a turkey and homemade macaroni salad to bring here for lunch, and I've already made a gallon of MY HOMEMADE POTATO SALAD to add to the meal.

I think the plan is to make turkey sandwiches to go with the salads, but I don't eat turkey or chicken as a sandwich, and I don't eat cold turkey or chicken in any form, so I'll either warm up some turkey breast to eat or more likely eat a ham sandwich.

I also bought a watermelon and it's already in the refrigerator, and also a cantaloupe for dessert, so that completes our menu.

What's for Sunday Dinner this week at your place? Since it's also July 4th I'm sure many of you have special plans and menus to celebrate Independence Day, so please share your plans/menu in the comments. I'm sure we'll all enjoy reading the differing plans and menus. This has been a busy week once again, filled with everything and nothing at the same time. I've done some housework, did my monthly Wal*mart household shopping and various other things that kept me busy.

The housework was mostly what I call the invisible type. You know, those things that are only noticed when they don't get done, like cleaning the bathroom, refilling the liquid soap dispensers, scrubbing the kitchen sink and putting out new sponges....Things like that.

I'm going to sweep the kitchen floor, vacuum the living room carpet and get my things ready for church tomorrow, and that's all I'm doing tonight. For our Friday supper I baked some pork ribs in the oven just until they were barely done, then finished them on the grill with some hickory barbecue sauce. I have to say they were really good, and we also had some of that homemade tater salad to complete our meal.

I made the tater salad Friday night so it would have time to get gooder by Sunday Dinner time, but it was already pretty good when we had it on Friday night.

I didn't want to cook on Saturday night, so Lamar went with a friend and brought home Kentucky*Fried*Chicken for supper. For once it was hot and fresh and really good. I love their biscuits better than anyone's, including my own homemade biscuits, and I make biscuits at least 3 different ways. It's nearly midnight and I'm determined to get the kitchen floor swept and the living room floor vacuumed before I go to bed, so I'd better get to it.

I hope you all have a safe and happy 4th of July. I'm very thankful for this wonderful country we live in, and for all those who sacrificed and are still sacrificing today to keep us free.

May God meet all your needs and may you have enough to share, dear family and friends. I'm feeling particularly blessed this Independence Day, and I hope you are as well.

Everything sounds yummy, as always!! Your tater salad reminds me so much of my Mom's. She just makes the best potato salad ever (although I'm sure you're is super good, too!).

I have no idea what we'll be doing for the 4th. I'm still getting over my latest bout with diverticulitis, so I'm being real careful about what I eat. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Have a great 4th, my friend. Enjoy your family and have a good time! God bless you!!

Love, Julie

Dinner sounds great Diane... I will be leaving for my yearly vacation with my two sisters and brother today around noon. Every year, we go to the beach for a week and we camp in daddy's travel trailer... This year I am taking my grandson with me, so let's hope he's a little angel and we have a great time... I don't know what we will be having for dinner tonight... We are hoping to go to the fireworks display down off the seawall... I'm looking forward to this...

Last week was busy, I got a great deal on some tomatoes and I put up 100 lbs... Wow, that was work. We were also watching hurricane Alex and making plans, if the need should arise.... We didn't get the full brunt of the storm but we got lots of rain from the feeder bands... I'm praying for a quiet season but it's predicted to be a big year for tropical development...

Have fun with Ducky and the gang and enjoy your 4th... Give Miss Emily a big hug for me next time you see her...

Happy 4th Diane!!
I don't have plans to celebrate today. My puppies are afraid of all the loud fireworks so I like to stay home so I can comfort them.
I think for dinner I will grill a porkchop and some veggies, and I might make a pan of walnut brownies with frosting even. I have been pretty hungry for something chocolate, sweet and rich. That ought to cover it! LOL
GOd bless you and your family dear.

Happy "belated" 4th of July to you and yours, dear Diane! It's not just you, I also find that Sundays come around faster and faster!!! I can't even believe we're almost in mid July already.

I love potato salad and could eat it every day if I could:-) Your meals always sound so delicious and what a blessing it is to be able to have some of your family join you on some Sundays.

I hope you're having a lovely summer so far, my friend. xoxox

Happy Belated Independence day! My wife Diane celebrated too, we celebrated twice actually. We had ribs, corn on the cob and potato salad (the best food on earth) on the 4th, but as Diane's son wasn't with us he wished a second chance. So in the middle of the week we got all the kids together and my nieces and their boyfriends and had a big ol party with 6 lbs of ribs. Hope yours was a hit too!
