Sunday Dinner, May 30, 2010

I know everyone is getting tired of hearing that I'm not cooking Sunday Dinner, especially since I've been doing this Sunday Dinner thing for 4 years now. But this is a case of life changing and rearranging, so I'll just deal with each Sunday Dinner situation as it comes.

For this Sunday I know I'm not cooking so we'll be eating out somewhere, though I have no idea where, as usual.

If you'd like to share your plans/menu in the comments, please feel free to do so.

Lamar got home from Texas in the wee hours of Monday morning and we've spent this week getting back into our routine. I've done laundry and the usual household chores, and also watched Emmy Thursday morning and all day Friday.

Tonight I grilled a couple of pork chops and some chicken legs and thighs, and also some potatoes that I cut into 1 inch thick rounds, and some garden fresh yellow squash. It was great and I'm looking forward to all the fresh garden veggies that our family and friends share with us.

I also got soaked trying to finish up the grilling. A thunder shower came up pretty suddenly and I barely got the food cooked before it started blowing rain up under the overhang out back where I keep my grill. I was drenched before I got the food off the grill and everything carried inside, but it was worth it.

On top of my usual activities, I'm now nursing a 4 week old kitten that Jessica found in the middle of the street. Apparently its mother abandoned it, and it's so sick that I have my doubts that it's going to make it.

It has an upper respiratory infection and it was covered in fleas and I'm pretty sure it has some other serious problems, perhaps even feline leukemia. I've had it since Thursday afternoon and it just doesn't seem to be improving.

I'm giving it oral antibiotics and antibiotic salve for its eyes, but the main problem is that it just doesn't want to nurse from a bottle. I've even fed it a little with an eye dropper, but it's fighting me every step of the way and it's growing weaker. I just don't know if I'm going to be able to save the poor little thing.

I also know it's common for mother animals to abandon sick babies, this may be just such an instance. I'm trying to hard to save the poor thing, and at the same time trying to guard my heart against the inevitable hurt if the little thing dies. I think that is an impossible task though.

I'm trying to feed it every 2 hours during the day, and I'm getting up in the middle of the night to feed it too, though with not much success, so you might see what's taking up a lot of my time at the moment.

I'll try my best to do a post during this next week, but for now I need to get this published and take care of the kitten as well as my usual Saturday night routine.

Hope y'all have a wonderful, safe and meaningful Memorial Day. May God meet all your needs, and may you have enough to share, dear family and friends.

Awwww...the poor little mite. No matter how you guard your heart, they manage to wiggle their little selves in there anyway! I'll be keeping your little kitty in my prayers. You have a good heart, Diane!

No idea what's for dinner here tomorrow...I met Kimberly for lunch and we each had a panini. I brought 1/2 of mine home, so maybe that! It was really good - smoked turkey, muenster cheese, basil pesto mayo...yummy!

If you have a minute, drop by my blog! Another giveaway is in progress and it's a good one! (Well, I happen to think they're all good...but you know what I mean!)

Have a blessed week and a fabulous dinner tomorrow - whatever and wherever it may be!

DC is gone to Wisconsin for his 50th high school reunion. He'll be attending the church his dad pastored when he was in high school. So I'll be feasting on whatever I might have in the fridge.

Diane, It's too late, you already have that baby kittie in your heart... How can you not? We have three mama hobo kitties right now and between them, we have nine baby kitties.... I have been making up a mixture of milk, egg and brewers yeast powder to give to the mama kitties while they nurse. Those babies are growing like weeds and will soon be weaned...As soon as the mama's do wean their babies, we are going to get them fixed, so that doesn't happen again...lol. We will find homes for all of the baby kitties and go from there...

I'm glad that Lamar got home safely from his trip, I hope he had a good time. It got up to 95 degrees here yesterday and it's plenty hot, hot, hot...

Don't know what we will have for dinner but it will be simple....Going to be resting all weekend, now that the Emergency Preparedness fair is over...Have a great weekend and take care.

You have such a dear, tender heart Diane. I hope the poor little thing makes it. If not, you will know you have done everything possible to help. It is so hard not to get our hearts wrapped around these sweet little critters.
I hope you will have a nice holiday weekend. You are such a blessing.

Oh honey, God bless you for loving the weakest of God's critters. have ya tried giving him some warm milk and bread mix? If he takes that, then the canned kitty formula soft food. I will pray for him. We lost a premie new born billy goat yesterday...he had birth trauma, lasted a week, but he couldn't stand or walk and we had to help him nurse, so Jim put him down. He was suffering so much, just broke my heart. Jim was raised on a farm and has dealt with the death of critters, I just go to pieces. never get used to that...You got a tender heart honey, if it's in the Lord's will the kitty will make it..but at least it has your love. God bless dear, Jen

I think it's great when you don't have to cook dinner! hehe We deserve these breaks every once in a while:-)

Bless your heart for looking after that little kitten. He certainly doesn't sound like he's doing well at all, though:-( My DIL is an Animal Control Officer and every once in a while she brings home an ill kitten to try to bring it back to health before returning it for adoption...this one time Shawn is the one who took care of it. He got so attached to it but unfortunately it only survived 2 weeks. He was devastated. It's so easy to give our hearts out to those little animals.

It's been absolutely gorgeous over here and we're seeing way warmer temps than we're used to having in May. Next week they're forecasting rain all week but I won't complain because we're in desperate need of it. We're surrounded by bush fires because everything is much too dry.

Have a wonderful weekend my friend. xoxox

Diane, I was so sorry to learn that the kitty crossed over the Rainbow Bridge in the night...but what a blessing that it knew love and kindness in its last days.

Gigi
