Sunday Dinner, May 1, 2010

I'm going to do my best to get this typed in a hurry and published before bad storms move into our area.

We had tornado warnings most of the evening and into the wee hours of the night on Friday night, and now we have more tonight. The National Weather Service has issued a Particularly Dangerous Situation in conjunction with a Tornado Watch for our area, which includes most of Arkansas, and as I type this there are literally over a dozen tornado warnings for the counties to our Southwest and the storms are only a couple of counties away from me right now.

Other issues are frequent lightning and flash flooding. A boy in a nearby town was struck by lightning last night, but I haven't heard if it killed him or not. We've already had several inches of rain and are expected to get a lot more tonight, which will cause even more flooding.

As you might possibly know by now, I'm back online. I had to wait on our telephone company to ship me another phone modem because mine died last week. That's why I missed posting last Sunday's Dinner, but I think I'm back in business now.

We did our big monthly Walmart shopping today, and then we went to our favorite catfish restaurant with friends for supper tonight, so that's why I'm getting a late start for this post.

My church is having a fellowship after Sunday morning preaching, so I'm making some HOMEMADE PIMENTO CHEESE sandwiches. I'll make the pimento cheese tonight and take the bread and pimento cheese to church with me, then assemble the sandwiches at church so the bread won't get soggy.
I want to make a HONEYBUN CAKE too, but that will depend on the weather. If it doesn't get too bad, if the power stays on, if the storms move out before too late --- well, you get the picture.

So, I'll be making homemade pimento cheese tonight, taking it to church and assembling the sandwiches there, and possibly making a honeybun cake, weather permitting. Of course there'll be all kinds of goodies that my other church friends will bring to the fellowship, so there's no telling exactly what I'll be having for my Sunday Dinner, but from past experience I can say with some assurance that it will all be good.

What's for Sunday Dinner at your place this week? Share your plans/menu in the comments if you'd like to participate this week.

For those of you that are also on Facebook I'll try to keep updating my status as I can, assuming we still have power and don't get blown away tonight.

It's beginning to thunder and lightning, so I'm going to wind this up and get it posted.

Y'all have a safe and blessed weekend. May God meet all your needs and may you have enough to share is my prayer for each of you, dear family and friends.

Thinking of you dear Diane. This tornado business is so scary. We do not have tornados here in our part of the country. My husband's dear friend from his Navy days lives in Eldorado. I'm thinking that is way south and east of you, right? You are in my prayers tonight.

I'm just hoping that all goes well in your neck of the woods!

I don't know what we're having, but K. is coming back a day early!

Yay! Even grilled cheese and soup will be great as he has been gone for two weeks!

I find tornado's to be more fearsome than hurricanes as you don't have the advanced warning as with hurricanes. Happily we don't have either of them where I live. As to our Sunday dinner, we are traveling on the Oregon Coast this week so the only thing I am pretty sure of is that we will eat out somewhere.

Sure hope they don't hit your town! How scary.

We're taking my mom out for dinner tomorrow for her birthday, which is today. We're going to our favorite Chinese restaurant.

Glad you got your computer fixed Diane!

We have had continuous rain today but no bad storms yet. I hope and pray that you all are spared tornado's and that we are too. Looking at the radar just now it looks like they might be weakening as they move to the north. I sure hope they do. Tonight and tomorrow is supposed to be rain too, so we are having a soaking weekend!

As for my dinner, I have no clue as of yet.

Have a wonderful Sunday Diane and keep safe!! Hugs, Rachel

been thinking about you.

about 2 or 3 weeks ago my hubby took Sugars out to eat with he and his mother to a restaurant called "Catfish Heaven" (which is wonderful and you'd sooo love).

So, Sugars may just steal your heart cuz she

a) ate every hush puppy in the joint
b) has called anything remotely fish shaped since a "catfish". All she can talk about is "catfish". Girl loves her some catfish! even the goldfish or dolphin variety of catfish!!

We missed you last week but I'm happy you're back on line now!

My hubby is sick now with a bad cold so probably not a whole lot to eat today. Maybe some soup...

For Sunday dinner, Dom, Donna, Susan, Ashlie and I will be eating at a local Chinese buffet and celebrating our 40th anniversary!

I hope that those horrible storms went around you. It's been raining here for 2 days but we only had "thunder in the distance" yesterday morning.

Dinner here will be pork chops, mac and cheese, and green beans.

Glad you're up and running again :)

Stay safe!

I'm glad you are back Diane. I am concerned about the tornado's and pray you will be ok. I would be scared out of my wits if we had them here. I'd have to set up my computer under my bed because that''s where I'd be hiding!
I had cabbage rolls and broccoli for dinner. I made lots yesterday and froce single servings for easy meals.
Please take care.

Meatloaf and mashed potatoes. :o)

I tried to cook between storms. I was afraid lightning would hit the stove. EEK.

Glad you are back online. Hope your connection holds up through this storm season.

We love Honeybun cake and the recipe I use is a little different from yours. I will be trying yours next time. It sound a bit yummier.

My mother would not have approved of our Sunday dinner yesterday. We had fried catfish, cornbread and macaroni and cheese. She would have said I didn't have any color on the plate which was always a bad thing. My husband, son and grand kids didn't have any trouble gobbling it up. I saw that the package of catfish I had thawed was not going to be enough so I cut up, breaded and fried some tilapia. It was actually very good.

Diane,

I saw where Arkansas had tornado watch. I always think of you, Jess and my friend Bertha when I hear about storms in that area.

We saw on the news where Tennessee and Kentucky had lots of rain and flooding. It seems destructive weather is everywhere.

Blessings,
Mary

What a week or two of weather in your area. We are still having freezing at night most nights. I am hoping to put in a garden but have to keep the starts inside until the nights warm up. Wind is what we have here also but sure not what you are facing there. Taie care and keep safe.
Sorry no dinner plans but we had grilled chicken, salad, homemade frenchfries and greenbeans on Monday night. Oh, and bisquits and jelly or honey too.
