I was approached by email a few months ago about doing a book review on my blog. I agreed to review the book and also received an extra copy to give away.
The books arrived in the middle October and with Thanksgiving and Christmas and all the hustle and bustle that go along with them I'm just now getting around to posting my review.
"THE VOICE" is a modern day translation of the New Testament Bible, using today's English to translate the Old English into an easier to understand version of the scriptures.
Here's what the marketing promoter had to say about "The Voice New Testament":The Voice™ is the product of the best minds in this emerging generation of Christian leaders. Together they are helping young people fall in love with the Scriptures. Instead of confining God's Word in the framework of biblical criticism, The Voice™ highlights the beauty of God's communication to His people. In The Voice™, the voice of God is heard as clearly as when He first revealed His truth. This is the first-ever complete New Testament in this translation. Writers include Chris Seay, Lauren Winner, Brian McLaren, Greg Garrett, David B. Capes, and others.
Most Christians know John 3:16 as a very familiar scripture so I chose it to quote here from The Voice:"For God expressed His love for the world in this way: He gave His only Son so that whoever believes in Him will not face everlasting destruction, but will have everlasting life." John 3:16
I have to say right up front here that it's strictly the King James Version of the Bible all the way for me. I'm not implying that it's the only version that you should read or live by or that any other Bible versions are wrong or lacking. I'm just stating that I prefer the King James Version. The version of the Bible that you prefer to read is a very personal decision and I don't presume to advise anyone what is right or wrong for you.
Having said that, I will say that I like "The Voice" as a study tool in addition to my King James Bible, not as a sole replacement. If you're looking for a modern day translation to use as a supplement to your Bible studies I recommend "The Voice".
I just checked and "The Voice" is available at AMAZON.COM by clicking HERE or by clicking on the graphic above.

I know what you mean about the hustle and bustle of the holidays. I'm still dragging my hiney!
The book you reviewed sounds like the New King James Version, which I have. I also have the old King James and several other versions.
I think its good to have a Bible that is written for our language. Jesus didn't talk like King James so we don't have to either.
My main concern is that the meanings are not changed and I have found some discrepancies in other versions. I do a lot of cross referencing.
I shopped today and am tired tonight so will stop now and wish you a good rest of the week and week end.
God Bless
Diane, I am a "King James" version person too. I don't like the way some of the wording goes with these "new time" versions. I think it takes some of the poetry out of the Bible and many times it changes the meaning in the slightest of ways. I think I will stick to my King James version.
Have fun with Emily and don't get too worn out.....lol. Yes, I know better, you will be exhausted.
Haven't read this translation but I would love to try it. Please enter my name in the drawing. Thanks.
Good luck on your giveaway. It's finally Friday, the snow is melting and I am looking forward to the weekend.
Have an excellent Friday.
Hm. I've never heard of this translation. I'm a KJV girl too, but the NKJV is okay with me as well.
Enjoy that grandbaby!
Have a wonderful weekend! :o)
I'm always up for a new version to check out. Count me in!
Sounds like an interesting study tool. Although, I am a devoted KJV girl, too! I will check it out. Thanks for the recommendation!
Good morning Diane! I love reading your book reviews. This was very interesting. I was raised on the KJ version, but switched to the Jerusalem Bible version as a college student and have used that version since. ( Received it for my 20th birthday :) ) It has cross referenced translations of Greek/Hebrew word meanings which I enjoy reading/studying. The King James is my old stand-by though...like you it's my preference. I'd be up for trying this new version to study with my youngest DD. I'd love to be entered in the drawing. I know what you mean about the business of the past few months. It seems to get busier as the years pass too! Have a fun day with your dearest little Princess Emmy hon! Granny D. will be ready to crash and burn tomorrow evening I'll wager! I'm sooo looking forward to that first grandchild someday! Have a blessed weekend my friend.
Love ya, Jen
Hi, Diane! I was interested in your review because although the KJV is my favorite, I like to have others that are different to consult and compare when I'm doing Bible studies. Anyway, would love to win it and hope you didn't get too much cold and ice this week or last week!

I have four different versions of the Bible. My oldest is the King James version though. It's the one I write in and make notes all throughout. My father gave it to me when I was about 14. So it's got an awful lot of my notes in it. :-)
I'll bet you're as busy today as I am. My two are giving me a real run for my money today, but they're both sound asleep right now, which is a miracle.
I always like to compare different versions. Please add me to the drawing. Thanks, and have a blessed weekend! (tpearson@uga.com)

Hi Diane, I'm leaning more and more back to the KJV, since it's more accurate when studying the Greek/Hebrew words. I do like THE MESSAGE too.
btw, I thought you'd want to know that you have a typo in the
Jn 3:16 verse. You left out the word 'not' in 'whoever believes in Him will face everlasting destruction'.
Not that I blog around correcting everyone's typo's!
Have a wonderful weekend.
Diane, I find that I like this version also. Please enter me in the drawing.
Good review Diane. I am a KJV reader also, but sometimes I like to look up verses in different Bibles to see how they compare or maybe help me understand a particular passage. So you can enter me in the drawing.
Bet you and Miss Emmy had some fun and she wore you out!! Haha!
It's a rainy Saturday here.
Love and hugs!!
I also cross reference in my bible studies and would be interested in this new version. Sometimes it helps me with the full understanding on KJV version that I otherwise would just gloss over instead of searching. Thank you for the opportunity. Hope Jess is doing okay. Miss her. Tam
Hello dear Diane:-)
There just aren't enough hours in a day to do everything we want to do, is there! lol So many things I wanted to post about before the holidays but was kept so busy, didn't get a chance. I enjoyed reading your book review! I wish I was back into book reading but never find the concentration for it anymore. I'm sure you had fun with Emmy yesterday:-) xoxo
I like the KJV Bible.

Wow this would be great in addition to The Bible. I love to read the 'living Bible' type of books that put things in an easier to understand perspective for me.
Hi Diane,
Good job on the book review, and it sounds like a book I could really use.
Thanks for entering my name in the drawing to win a free copy.
Hope you are doing okay and that you are staying warm. It is just barely over 30 degrees here in middle Tennessee.
Hugs,
Betty
I normally use my KJV bible, but this really sounds like something I could use in addition to when I might be unclear about a verse.
Thanks so much for the giveaway.
I would love to have a copy. I love the NIV Bible. Count me in! Thanks,
Carolyn
