Sunday Dinner, December 21, 2008

Hello, Merry Christmas, how are you? By the way, do you realize that Christmas is only five (5) days away?

Egads.

While I've been merrily procrastinating away the holiday season, Christmas has been steadily creeping up on me, and now the time has come to pay the Christmas baking piper. Or something like that.

I made 3 batches of my SCOTTISH BUTTER SHORTBREAD COOKIES last night and I still have to make 12 dozen dog biscuits for my vet friend tonight, plus I still have to make some of my MERINGUE PECANS and some syrup glazed pecans. If I don't get the pecans done tonight I hope to get them done Sunday night.

I said "hope", not "let the fate of mankind rest on it".

Know what I just had for supper? Canned lunch meat (think off brand *Spam*) sandwiches with barbecue corn chips and shortbread for dessert.

All that to get to this point: I haven't given much thought to Sunday Dinner for this week until just a few minutes ago. So I made an executive decision.

I'm not going to make anything for Sunday Dinner.

No, your eyes didn't deceive you. I have no idea who may or may not be here and I still have a lot of baking to do tonight, so I'm just going to let Sunday Dinner coast this week.

Remember HERE and HERE where I tried to fix chicken and rice for Sunday Dinner but due to extenuating circumstances it just never happened? Well, I'm going for round 3.

I still have the chicken stock and cooked chicken in the freezer, so if Sunday Dinner happens here at Diane's Place it'll be chicken and rice and dig ups for dinner. In case you're not acquainted with dig ups, that's whatever you can dig up to fix for dinner.

And that's as far as I've made it with my menu this week.

Now, what are your plans/menu for Sunday Dinner this week? Just share in the comments if you'd like to participate this week.I've got to get busy baking, so that's gonna do it for this post. I've got a book review and giveaway scheduled for next week and I hope to get in at least one more post before Christmas.

Just in case I don't have another post before Christmas, I want to wish each and every one of my readers a happy, blessed and joyous Christmas season and New Year, and a Happy Hanukkah to my Jewish friends.

May God meet all you needs and may you have enough to share.

Oh Diane, I was hoping you would get your post up before I feel asleep....I am so "tard" that I can hardly move. Christmas is creeping up a little too fast for me, too.

I am going to put some beans in the slow cooker tonight, let them soak and then turn on the crockpot and let them cook. I have some leftover ham, from the other day, that I will season it with. When dinner time comes, then I will make up some rice and cornbread and that will be dinner.

So much to do, so little time. Hope you and the family have a great Christmas.....Take lots of pictures of Emily....

Merry Christmas, Diane! I browse through from Boomama's blog every once in awhile to see what you've been up to. This Christmas season has slipped up too fast on me, too! My best friend's, who is my cousin, too, daughter got married on Nov. 29. I helped her get ready for the wedding and reception. She practically saved my life when my daughter got married, so I did what I could to help her. THEN, my grandson.....my very first grandchild...was born Monday morning, Dec.1!!! He is wonderful!! His name is Levi.
I've been a little distracted....so I'm behind on my holiday stuff. I don't really care, though. I just want to enjoy this Christmas. All of the other "busy" stuff we sometimes think is so important, isn't really, is it?
I loved your "dug up" comment :) My grandma used to say whenever unexpected guest or family would drop in that we'd just eat "off the pile". And, boy, could Grandma pull out the best stuff at the last minute!! I used to love "eating off the pile" at Grandma's. It was always great! Thanks for making me think of her tonight.

I am about to go an dhelp clean my b-i-l's restaurant, and food will be on the agenda after that. If there is anything in the house. I need to bake some biscuits too (cookies) and then try to hide them so we have something for Christmas!
A chef in the house actulaly means no-one cooks around here! Except me. So I think that means I will be heading for the shops after I clean. The upside of all this, by the way, is that I get to be in Switzerland, high up in the Alps. In the snow. With my sisetr, Mum etc. I LOVE this place!

Merry Christmas, Diane! Have a wonderful day today, and enjoy the baking!

Like you, I've been sweet makin' and haven't given a thought to tonight's supper...I just got up from reading this post and went out to my pantry...goodness it felt like a meat locker out there (it's not heated) and I think I'll "dig up" some Sloppy Joes or something...nuthin' fancy at all.

Headed out tomorrow for Ky, can't wait to see all of my people, that is for sure!

Merry Christmas to you and yours!♥

I Love it!!! I LOVE your 'executive decision'. That would be so super if I could do that. Maybe I'll try that on Bud and see what he has to say.

I'm here to send along Holiday wishes to you and yours today. May your Christmas be blessed with happiness and the joy of the season.

Merry Christmas, Diane, to you and your family. BUT - Diane, you don't know how much I look forward to your Sunday dinners! I do like chicken and rice, though. I am working today, so we are having KFC takeout.

Merry Christmas Diane and wishes for a blessed and joyous day.
No sunday dinner at our house either. Our choir sang at another church this morning, and my sweet husband stopped at a restaurant on the way home. It is actually very cold here today, so all I plan on fixing is a hot cup of cocoa.
Thank you for the sweetness of your friendship. You always encourage and uplift. You're a dear friend.

All your baked goods sound delicious. I'm sure whatever you had for Sunday dinner was good.

How is your diabetes, Diane? Couldn't help but think about that when I read what all sweet you are making for Christmas. I just hope you will be careful and not eat too much of it. Ed has a hard time letting desserts pass him by, and I'm sure it is hard.

Merry Christmas to you and your family, Diane. Thanks for being such a good friend this year.

A very Merry Christmas to you and yours, too! I am also behind, as always! I have nothing wrapped and have to sew Tammy's GAG apron gift yet, too! Wrapping tomorrow and then baking pizelles tomorrow night....Tammy will be here tomorrow afternoon to help me out. I always let everything go til the last minute....always!!! But when I am short on time, boy, can I ever get things done! But tonight will be an all-niter for me! I'm an old night owl, anyhow! LOL

Anyhow, you are not alone with your baking to do. I have fudge to make sometime yet, too! Tam and I got a lot of cookies baked yesterday and last night at her home. We always do too much and then we're so tired out when the holiday does get here. Every year I always say I'm not going to put things off til the last minute, but every year I do, somehow! Guess that goes with growing older.

Anyhow, wish I lived closer to you all!!! You always cook up some of the best stuff!!!

Have a great holiday with little Emmy!!! I may get in one more post yet of Christmas decorations....maybe!

Love you!
Nancy

We did the 'digups' today too. I had to get out without Grace to finish shopping so, it was grilled cheese or turkey sandwiches for lunch. I did make a small pot of Basil Tortellini soup for supper. Grace & I are gonna make some more sugar cookie dough tonight, & I have some presents to wrap.
Merry Christmas to you and your lovely family, Diane!

DC and I had the privilege of lunching just the two of us for a change, so we went to Applebee's - I just finished the half I brought home for supper. Our company is about to arrive, so I'll be figuring out where they sleep. Let the wild times begin!

We have had "dig ups" all week! This has been one crazy busy week so I guess I shouldn't feel bad. Tonight I did fix polish sausage with fried cabbage, potatoes and homemade applesauce..but guess what...we didn't eat until almost 9pm!! YIKES! What sort of a mom am I anyhow??? Luckily it isn't a school night, but still. Oh well. I think we will have pancakes for supper tomorrow.
I am making fudge, cheeseballs, and embroidering like crazy...
and have 4 extra 12 year old boys coming over all afternoon tomorrow..jeesh!! We have relatives coming to town tomorrow night...not staying here..but will be here some and this place looks like a cyclone hit it right now..so I have my work cut out for me.
That shortbread sounds so good!! I still need to make cookies too. Will no doubt bake some more amish friend ship bread tomorrow too. sigh..the days are just flying by. I am feeding 18 it looks like on Christmas day.
If I don't get here again before that..you and yours have a fabulous family Christmas!!

Well Diane, I forgot to put the beans in the crockpot.....I ended up cooking a chicken, cabbage and rice. I have, however, put the beans in the pot to soak overnight for tomorrow nights dinner.......

Howdy Miss Diane....

It's about time I got by for a little visit, don't you think. I on't know why, but for some reason this year has zipped right past me and it has taken me twice as long to get anything done than it used to. i am so far behind and going in circle most days, at times it seems as if I am meeting myself coming and going.

I just wanted to be sure to get by and wish you a Merry Christmas filled with love and happiness.

Hi Diane! I'm catching up on my blog reading and commenting. After church yesterday I went to a chinese restaurant and ate. I had someone sitting with my husband so I was able to do that and it was very nice indeed! I had Moo Goo Gai Pan, one of my favs!

I do hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas!!!

How could I forget that? LOL

I couldn't let Christmas slip by without stopping by to wish you a wonderful holiday, Diane, and to thank you for being such a good friend.

Diane,

Whatever you dig up for Sunday dinner will be delicious. I just know it. Sunday we had chicken and then for lunch on Monday we had chicken soup made from the leftovers. It was delicious. Today I cooked a large roast of beef that will do us over the holidays. We will have Christmas dinner with Barry, Michelle, the boys, my mother and my niece and her family - taking place at Michelle's. This year I don't have to do a thing. I'm taking a pumpkin pie.

Merry Christmas to you, my friend. I wish you much love and laughter around Jessica's table on Thursday. My prayer for you is that 2009 will be filled with love and laughter and that you will enjoy good health and prosperity.

Hugs,
Mary
