Sunday Dinner, December 9, 2007

Sunday Dinner. Why, yes, I do believe I'll cook some this week. As a matter of fact, I'm making homemade chicken noodle soup. And I'm even going to go all out and make some homemade egg noodles to add to my soup. We'll have crackers with our homemade chicken noodle soup because even I don't really want cornbread with chicken noodle soup. It's like it violates some unwritten rule or something. To me, anyway.

Now, YOU out there....Yes, you! What are you serving/having for Sunday Dinner? Just share your menu/plans in the comments if you want to participate. As I type this, Miss Emmy is asleep in her new playard that Grandma and Grandpa got for her. With the help of my Anonymous Benefactor. You may recall that a generous friend who preferred to remain anonymous sent me a Wal*mart gift card some time back. I chose to keep part of the money on the card until now and I used the remainder of the money on the card and added some more to it to purchase the playard for Emmy.

It is such a blessing to have that playard! I can put Emmy in it and I don't have to worry that she's going to get into something dangerous or pull something off a table or shelf and hurt herself before I can get to her in time. I can also go to the bathroom without having to hurry and worry, LOL! ;o)

You can tell in the pictures that Emmy was very sleepy. She slept for about 45 minutes but she's stirring a little now so I don't know if she'll settle back down or be awake in a few minutes....

Right now Jessica is using the playard at her house and bringing it here when I keep Emmy, but rumor has it that Emmy's Great Granny and Great Papaw got her a playard for Christmas to keep at Emmy's, so after Christmas the one I bought will stay here and Jessica won't have to haul it back and forth every time I keep Emmy.Lamar's step Dad very generously gave us a big bag of pecans from their tree, and he even had them cracked for me. I've been busy picking over them and picking off some shells that were still attached. I worked on pecans for about 4 hours this afternoon/evening and finally got done just a little while ago while Emmy was napping. I have 6 quart freezer bags there and then I put 2 quart bags inside each gallon bag. I like to give them extra protection for long storage, although I'll make a big dent in those when I do my Christmas baking and candy making.

I know I want to make an Italian Cream Cake, homemade toffee, fudge, glazed pecans, savory toasted pecans and probably some homemade butter shortbread if I can muster up the energy. There may even be some other things I make before Christmas, but I will almost certainly make those items.I still have to cut up a chicken and cook it and make my egg noodles, so I'm going to wish everyone a good evening and a blessed Sunday. May God richly bless you and yours this Christmas with all you need and enough to share.

Good Evening Diane,
I'm glad you got Miss Emmy a playard. They sure do come in handy. Of course, hers is a bit different than the one I had with my girls. Things are always changing daily tho. My Mom used to buy things to keep at her house when my girls were little. She had the high chair and bottles and diapers and clothes. You would have thought she had had a baby herself. LOL. The only thing she didn't have was the Baby Bed. I had that. Miss Emmy sure does look sleepy. Her little eyes are red and heavy. I hope she doens't do like my girls did when they were small and fight their sleep. Oh now, that is awful. LOL. My Mom has some pecans that she came up to Caraway and bought at Ponderosa Pecan Farm. They were cracked and she had to shell them. She spent all this week doing that at night while sitting around watching t.v. That was so nice of Lamar's Step-Dad to have them shelled for you. That is a big plus there. I've never made homemade egg noodles before. I just usally buy the pre-packaged kind. I don't have nothing to make homemade noodles with anyway. I'm not sure what we are doing for lunch tomorrow. I know we are going to Osceola. We may just grab something on the go. We are all sleeping in tomorrow because the last 3 days has been kind of busy for us. It didn't "Rain on our Parade" tonight. It sure was very foggy tho. It was all pretty. I took a couple of pictures with my cell phone. I will probably post them on Monday since we are busy tomorrow. Your Christmas goodies are making my mouth water. I would love to have a homemade Pecan Pie. I love those things. I love the salted pecans also. Well, take care my friend and have a great Sunday. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.

Diane,

Your Sunday dinner sounds terrific. I can imagine your homemade soup being so delicious. I love homemade soup.

We will be having pork ribs for Sunday dinner - hubby's choice. He sure likes his spareribs, as they are called here.

Thanks so much for your prayers and your kind words of love and support on my post this evening. You are a dear friend and very much appreciated.

Blessings,
Mary

That chicken soup sounds wonderful... I was going to cook a roast for Sunday dinner, but now that Bonnie won't be home till Monday, I don't know what I will cook....Probably chicken in the crock pot.

I found a pack-n-play at a garage sale for $ 20.00 when Jocelyne was a baby. Jennifer "borrowed" it and I only saw it when the baby was spending the night....Why do we let our kids take "our" things?

I'm glad that Jessica is getting a play yard for Christmas so that you can keep yours at your house.

Have a great week, hope you are feeling better......

Your chicken noodle soup sounds perfect - I've never made noodles before.

When my girls were small, my mom kept a crib and high chair at her house, probably some clothes and diapers too. So when my grandkids were born, I had a crib, high chair, bouncy chair, clothes, bottles, diapers, toys ... you get the picture! Inf act, we had an entire bedroom set up just for Shelby when she was a baby.

Sounds like you're starting to feel better. Have a great day.

Homemade chicken noodle soup? Sounds like just what the doctor ordered! That ole sinus infection will be on the run for sure now! :o)

Emmy looks like she's having a good roll! Cutie pie!

If you're making all those goodies, I may just have to come and help you eat them! LOL

(Cornbread with chicken noodle soup is just WRONG. TeeHee)

That soup sounds super delicious! We may be having soup leftover from earlier this week. I made a crock pot full of tortilla--or taco--soup. I used the rcipe I shared on Friday in Boomam's Soup-Tacular! BTW--Your Hamburger soup recipe is a keeper.Anyway--That, with cornbread and maybe apples on the side, is dinner for us I do believe.

Emmy's playyard was great purchase! I had a similar one that we used for our grandkids. Ella especially made use of it because it was her bed when her family stayed with us for a few months while they were having their kitchen redone. I project that took way longer than any of us expected!

I still keep the playyard handy just in case a baby visits. I don't believe we will be having any more grands--at least that's what I'm told!

I hope you have a great Sunday!

I'm making tagliatelle today, Diane. It uses Gradma's egg noodles which is the closest to homemade I'll ever get until someone in this family takes me seriously that I want a pasta machine!

I agree. Cornbread with chicken noodle soup is just wrong. LOL

I told you - I don't know what I'd do without my playyard. And I surely don't know what I'm going to do when Cameron outgrows it or figures out how to climb out of it.

What a blessing those pecans are. I remember when I was little, one of my aunts, who had no money to spend on gifts at Christmas, spent hours and hours shelling pecans and sent them to my mother. They were packed in a half gallon milk carton. My mother was overjoyed because pecans were NEVER on her shopping list. I'll never forget that as long as I live.

Hope you're feeling tons better now and have a nice week. (You must be - you're cooking again! LOL)

xoxo

Hmmmmm; Homemade chicken noodle soup!!! is there some left overs?

One of my bonus child made a lovely pasta special (his special then LoL) today and Diane was at a special Candle factory with some friends (post about it tomorrow) and on her way she had traditional Norwegian Christmas food on their way.

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead!

Yummy!! It all sounds good. How wonderful to get free pecans! They are great to have on hand, and expensive to buy.

I ended up going to Taco Bell for a soft taco for dinner. Later I had a bagel with cream cheese.

A playard...that must be like a play pen? I'm not up to date on baby stuff!

Hi Diane,

Well, we had potato soup for lunch and pancakes and sausage for dinner. It was nice to have some easy meals because it's been a long day!

My in-laws sent me home from Arkansas with a huge bucket of unshelled pecans. I spent 12 hours last weekend shelling them, and ended up with about 6 quarts. It was worth the work, but when my daughter just wants to grab a handful to eat, I kinda cringe because I know how long it took me to shell them. I'll be using them for holiday baking and I hoping they'll last for awhile. Who knows though? My family loves pecans.

LOVE Emmy's play yard...that is such a nice thing to have isn't it? You know she's contained and safe when she's in it, and that brings great peace of mind!

Hope you have a wonderful week! And hop you're feeling better soon.

Oh, YUM! Home made chicken noodle soup! I keep intending on doing that, and for some reason, it just hasn't happened yet. I even have several recipes to pick through. Call it laziness, I guess.

Our Sunday dinner? Wendy's. It was great. Over-fried fries that only half filled the container and the fabulous ambience of a fast-food restaurant. Oh, well.

I made Chili for Sunday dinner. Then regretted it later.:P

Miss Emmy looks very content in her new playpen. What a sweetie pie! She sure looks pretty in lavender.
I made the homemade egg noodle & chicken a few weeks ago and I know what you mean about cornbread not complimenting it. I love cornbread with just about anything but not that.
What a blessing to get all the pecans. My goodness, I looked at a 5 ounce bag of those little gems in my local supermarket today and do you know they were asking $8.98!
I couldn't believe my eyes.
I thought there was a mistake. This is a small supermarket and the prices are high on everything. I seldom even go in there unless they have something I need that's on sale.
I had spaghetti and green salad yesterday for dinner. But I put too much Italian season in the sauce. Gotta be a bit more frugal with that stuff.
Bless you Diane.

Now, I don't know how she did it, but Ms Emmy has apparently managed to STEAL Sugars' jammies!! I know I just washed those.....that stinker must crawl fast to get here and back in time for you to take those lovely pics!!

Homemade chicken noodle soup?? Did you freeze me any??
Can I place an order for pecan pie too???

love ya friend.

I am glad you're getting some sleep! It seems like your new insurance card is good news/bad news - it has led to lots of appointments!

Those pecans look wonderful. Mom used to get them from her neighbor and she'd share, but they don't live by him any more. Too bad! They're so expensive.

I'm glad you got the playard, which I call Pac and Play, I think. We had 2, but gave them away, I think, when we thought Kristen would done having kids. Yikes! We need both of them back!

We had a very early dinner this afternoon, and came in early. DC is watching a goofy movie, and I'm visiting friends. The pictures in today's post were taken before the accident. My camera has not been healed! Fortunately, DC has one, too, so he's taking the pictures or letting me use his.

I LOVE homemade chicken noodle soup but I've never attempted to make my own egg noodles! For dinner last night I roasted a chicken with some potatoes and carrots and made a stuffing...mom & Ross were over for dinner:-)

Those playpens are so wonderful to have...when my boys were little I had the playpen that mom had for us when we were babies so it was those wooden ones with rails! Love the pictures of Miss Emmy in hers...she's such a little darling:-)

I'm going to make Barb's Santa Whiskers and then I'll be all done with my Christmas baking...yahoo!! lol How wonderful to have such fresh pecans...wish I could go help you with all your baking.

Take care dear friend and enjoy this wonderful time of the year:-) xoxo

Good Afternoon Diane,
Well, we finally made it out of the 40's. It is 69 degrees as I'm typing this. It looks like the Sun is trying to shine as well. They say rain will be here tonight. It was very foggy this morning when I took hubby to his truck around 5:40a.m. It had lifted some when I took the girls to school around 7:30a.m. If you have time, go and read Ryan Vaughan's blog. I read it a bit ago. I won't believe it till I see it tho. LOL. Hubby is having to go up into Missouri later today and tonight. He is going where that ICE is. I am just worried sick about him. He assured me he would pull over if it gets too bad. His uncle is suppose to be running along with him in another truck. Last time I talked to hubby, he said his Uncle was having trouble with some lights on his truck. Just thought I would pop in and let you know about Ryan's blog. Well, take care my friend and have a great Tuesday. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.
P.S. I do hope you are feeling better. I talked to my Mom a few minutes ago, and she sounded like she was getting that crud again. I also talked to my Mother-In-Law and she sounds like she is getting it as well. Keep them in your prayers as well as for my hubby. Thanks alot.

There is nothing finer than a wonderful bowl of homemade Chicken Noodle soup, especially with the noodles homemade too....You can't beat it...I hope you're feeling better today, and resting, like what you should be....It's so cold here in MI, with freezing rain and drizzle....I'm so thankful I don't have to venture out in this....DH doesn't either, so I'm blessed...You have a wonderful night....Love, Bonnie B.

Since I've been out of the baby business a long time now, thought they no longer made play pens, and hadn't heard about play yards. Whatever they're called, when Barb and
her sister, Bev, and their brothers were little, they were a godsend!

Your grand daughter is growing so, and more beautiful all the time.

And my heart grew so happy when you mentioned pecans. What a good treat that you got some of them. Do you suppose the Garden of Eden
had pecan trees?

Diane, I hope you're feeling much better by now, and you're not overdoing, which is so typical during the holidays...My daughter has had a viral infection, but still works every day and that's exhausting her too...Holidays are so wonderful but also can play havoc on your health...I pray you're better....I am wondering if by chance, you could enter in your blog or even e-mail me, the recipe for your Italian Cream Cake? Is it a rich, dense type cake? It just sounds so lovely and I'd like to make it to take Christmas Eve to my daughter's....You really do the baking/cooking, don't you? I used to but it seems that other things would always stand in the way of my kitchen duties...I love to create, decorate, and do all the srtsy things so don't focus on the kitchen things as much as I probably should...I know the way to a man's heart is through his stomach...My DH certainly doesn't suffer, but would love some of those things you mention in your blog...Please take care of yourself and have a blessed day....thanks so much too for your e-mail previously...Love, Bonnie B.

I am southern and I am Baptist, therefore, I must have fried chicken at least once a week (I think that‘s Biblical), most preferably on Sunday afternoon. Along with the southern fried yard-bird, mashed taters and creamed corn make the meal complete.

Ummmm ummmm good! :)

That playard will come in very handy and Miss Emmy looks adorable in those pictures. She is really growing so fast..
