Sunday Dinner, July 22, 2007 & Assorted Stuff

See that question mark on the Chef's serving tray? If you come around these parts very often you should already have a good idea that I ain't cookin' Sunday Dinner this week. We'll either eat out somewhere or else have a baloney sandwich if we come back here.

What are your plans for Sunday Dinner? Going to Grandma's or eating out? Are you cooking? Just share your plans in the comments.
All together on Friday and Saturday I've canned 16 pints of MY HOMEMADE SALSA, 12 pints of MY HOMEMADE CHOW CHOW and 4 pints of MY HOMEMADE HOT PEPPER JELLY. Click on the bold links for the recipes on MY RECIPE BLOG. I added pictures to the recipes on my recipe blog and I'll post some of them here as well.

This is some of the chow chow. I personally don't
care for chow chow or relish, but my friend wants
at least 4 cases, totalling 48 pints of this stuff.
This is some of the salsa and hot pepper jelly
that I made. Sorry it's so dark. I've never
pretended to be a good photographer.
Here's a little better view of the hot pepper
jelly, but not much. Sorry.
I'm done with the canning for at least a few days. I don't have enough produce for more salsa and hot pepper jelly at the moment, but as I said, my friend wants a lot more chow chow as his garden produces, so I'll be making that now and then probably for the rest of the Summer into the Fall.
I don't know what's up with Miss Emmy but she's been a pill yesterday and today. She just does not want to sleep like she should during the day. I wouldn't mind if she just stayed awake and in a good mood, but she sleeps a few minutes then her eyelids fly up like window shades and she's cranky. Then she fights sleep and did I mention that she's cranky? All together today she only slept about 2 or 3 hours. That's not nearly enough sleep for a 2 ½ month old baby. Or maybe it's just that it's not nearly enough for a 43 year old Grandma.

So far Emmy is sleeping pretty well at night. She finally went to sleep about midnight Friday night, then woke up at 5 am this morning and by the time I fed her and changed her she was up for about an hour, but she went right back to sleep and slept until almost 10 am Saturday morning.

I'm taking Emmy to church with me Sunday so I hope she's in a much better frame of mind and isn't fussy and whiny all day. I can almost guarantee if Emmy's fussy and whiny, Grandma will be as well.
This is a bit of a delicate situation but I have to deal with this. Someone recently gave me the Reflective Blogger award and it has completely slipped my mind who it was. I want to acknowledge the award and I do appreciate it, but as my Mama would say, lately my mind has been like a sieve. Okay, my mind is leaky all the time. All the canning and preserving I've been doing and having Emmy here 12 hours a day through the week and all weekend is not helping my memory at all, I must add.

I didn't want to just let this slide because I really do appreciate the honor and I want to show my appreciation. So, if you're the nice blogger who recently awarded me the Reflective Blogger award, please forgive my forgetfulness and jog my memory. Please?
I got the paperwork on Friday for my court appointment for my Disability hearing. I have to go August 15th to Jonesboro, Arkansas to court for a personal interview before a judge to determine whether I will get my disability or not. Thank the Lord that Jonesboro is only 5 miles away. There was a possibility that the interview could have been almost anywhere in the state so it's a blessing that it will be so close and convenient for me.

Now I have a request for those of you who are prayer warriors. I most humbly request and covet your prayers for me for this disability hearing. I have been trying to get my disability for over 2 years and have been without any kind of insurance or health care for the entire time. Please pray that I will present my case in the best light possible and that if it's God's will, my disability will be approved. I don't know anything about the judge who will be presiding over my case. Please pray that he will be open minded and compassionate towards me. If he denies my claim I will have to start over from scratch and it's already taken me over 2 years to get this far with my claim.

To all of you who will commit to praying for me in this matter - Thank You and God Bless You all in advance. Diane is tard now, and I'm going to post this and study my Sunday School lessons, then try to get some rest if Emmy will let me.

May God bless you with all you need and enough to share.

I think it may have been one of our Australian friends or possibly Susie?

I've been catching up on my reading today when the net would cooperate and I'm sure I saw your name somewhere.

(Net was down for six hours this time - just got it back but don't know for how long. I asked Cecil to say hi to you and "zz" just in case it went down again.

Have a good, lazy Sunday. Hope that cute baby has settled down.

I don't know what we will be doing for lunch or dinner today. I am game for going out but Pat has said she is tired of throwing food away that we don't get around to cooking. There is a baseball game on TV that's early since they are playing a day game in Toronto, so 10am here. That may call for lunch at home near the TV. It is a good thing this RV park has cable with about 90 channels & one of them does have our ball team games! Dinner? Maybe in town with my brother & SIL.

If I was there, I'd bring you out for dinner....you certainly do need a break!!! Isn't it funny how we tend to forget just how tiring it is to take care of a baby?? Doesn't take long to remember though! lol I wonder if it's the heat that's making her cranky? Hopefully it's just a phase and she'll be back to sleeping longer and in a better mood:-) I know all the work that goes behind the canning...my garden still isn't ready yet so I've got a break for another month or so before I have to start mine!! Thank God for small mercies! lol You take good care of yourself Mz Diane!!! Love ya! xoxo

Hey Diane!!! What a busy, busy girl you've been. I think you are so sweet to do all that canning for others. You are a blessing!!
I will absolutely pray for you. We went through the same thing years ago. They definitely try your patience, but once it is settled it is worth the perserverance.
I love that picture of you and the "cranky" Miss Emmy. She is just too cute. Hopefully she'll be sleeping better this week.

Diane, Will certainly be praying for your hearing. Those things are so trying, I know.

Praying Miss Emmy is able to rest some and you too.

I'll remember you as well on 8/15. Try and get some sleep when Emmy does...I'm trying to remember from my 3 if there was some stage they went through at 2 1/2 months that made them cranky - is she eating more or acting hungry more often? Those growth spurts about killed me -hungry all the time it seemed (and I nursed them).

My father is finishing up with his corn and green beans from his garden - and mom is so glad to be done canning those beans. Now to just finish with the tomatoes.

Take care!

Woow, you been busy and so clever. Those home mades looks delicious! I so much remember those glasses when my mom did the same with fruits and berries. Home made is the best (you know I'm not fond of fast food:-).

Hope Emmy gets better soon!

Btw: We'll have craw fish today - I just love sea food you know:-)

You know I'll be praying on the 15th, Diane.

And I gave you the Blogger Reflection Award. I thought you'd acknowledged it so maybe someone else gave it to you, too?

Cranky babies are so fun, aren't they? Honestly, they're almost as fun as cranky two year olds. LOL

Sunday dinner is in the books now, but we had a birthday cookout. Steaks (disappointingly tough) and the works AND the world's ugliest birthday cake. I swear, it was so bad, I may post a photo of it, just to remind people I'm real. LOL

I'm dying to hear the outcome of your hearing. I so want this to go the right way for you. xoxoxo

Wow, Diane, you sure are one busy grandma !! Don't know how you find the time to do all your canning, with a 2 1/2 month old cranky bubba under foot !! You are amazing.
Hope Emmy cheers up for you, and is back to being the sweet happy baby she normally is.
Hoping the hearing works out in your favour ... I'll be praying for you.
Have a brilliant week, Diane, and please try not to over-do it.
Take care, hugs, Meow xx

I'm back!! And so far behind. I had Sunday dinner in Monticello, Minnesota at Applebee's after attending the church my dad grew up in (but it's no my dad's old church any more, that's for sure - but a very good service). We ate with a friend from childhood and his wife. Actually, he was more than just a friend for awhile, but he messed it up, and he was too late when he decided to try it again. Oh, well, his loss! No, seriously, he has a wonderful wife and I have an awesome husband. So God knows what He's doing!

Sorry little Emmy has been cranky - it's inevitable, I guess.

Lord's blessing on you on August 15! I will definitely put that on my list.

Make some ginger tea for that fussy baby, it will settle her stomach and help her sleep. I buy Yogi Ginger tea and it works wonders.

Your chile sauce looks wonderful. Do you can tomatoes? They are so easy to can and taste so good.

I'll put you on my prayer list. Good luck with your case. Do you have a disability lawyer helping you? I had a friend who got a lawyer after two years of waiting to go on disability. She won her case and paid him a percentage of her back pay. Good luck!

How beautiful to see those gorgeous jars all lined up!! I love canning stuff myself, but don't do much but peach jam every year. We don't have a garden yet, but hope to put on in next year. I had heard of chow-chow (my Grandmother is from the South, so I'm assuming it's a Southern thing?) but never knew what it was. I read the recipe and now I understand what it is. I don't think I would like it either, but glad to finally know what it is. Love those pictures of you and your grandbaby! God bles!

I's wonderful that you can still find time to do some canning. The salsa makes me hungry for chips and spicy salsa!
Babies do take up a great deal of time and I'm not sure I'd be able to get much accomplished if I had a little one around. I'd be sleeping when they did and praying for strength to keep up with them when they were awake!
I pray the hearing is in your favor.
Blessings

Hi Diane! Just catching up with you after being away for a bit. I was in the hospital for a few days, but am home now and everything's fine. The hospital stay was just a precaution, really. They ran some tests and everything checked out as it should, so nothing to worry about. A few things just caught up to me all at once and made me feel rather horrid. Now I'm under orders to really, really behave myself, but blogging isn't hard work, right? :)

Count me in on the prayer circle, my friend. I'll also be sending all of the other forms of positive energy that I can muster up! :) Two years is already way too long to wait, so this HAS to work out for you!

It has been a long time since I had to deal with a fussy baby, but I remember Miss Stephanie driving me up the wall when she was around Emmy's age. Turned out that she was just darned hungry, and once I added a bit of Pablum to her diet, she was her happy, contented self once again. Broke all of the "parenting by the book" rules, I know, but tough. Not much in the rule book applied to her, really. Still doesn't. ;)

Hope you're having a great week, my friend!

Hi Diane,

I've said it before and I'll say it again: You're amazing. Just plain amazing.

And that court hearing on August 15th? Consider yourself covered in prayer.

xo.
