I'm Still Kickin' & Still Ramblin'

***Pictures from Thursday morning with Jessica and Emmy. Jessica took all these pictures.***

Howdy, folks. I'm still alive and kickin', contrary to the rumors you might have heard. I've not been particularly busy, but not greatly motivated to blog about anything
either.

To recap my week thus far:

Monday - Cecil and Sue brought burgers from McD*nld's for lunch then we played a few games and watched Paula Deen and some of the other afternoon shows on the Food Network. Yeah, I know. Y'all are just green with envy, wishing you led an exciting life like me.

Tuesday - Lamar had to have a colon*oscopy. He had to be up at 5 am to do a certain little procedure in preparation for the test. Use your imagination. Or don't. The test went fine and the Dr. says he doesn't need to look at Lamar's innards for another 3-5 years. We went home and slept away most of the afternoon after being up so early.

Aren't you glad you stopped by my blog
today?

Wednesday - I typed up the business minutes for my church and made several Father's Day and graduation cards with my greeting card program. We received 5 graduation invitations this time, including Jason's. We just gave everyone a card and a (small!) check.

I also had business meeting at church Wednesday night, hence the typing of the minutes.

Thursday - Lamar and I rode the Sr. Citizen's van to Jonesboro to see Jessica and Emmy. Jessica took a few pictures for me. When we got home I finished the last book in a series of 6 that I've been reading. I've been reading them for about 10 days or so, off and on.

(Rabbit trail coming up --- This series of books has dragged on monotonously. I only persevered because I thought there would be a decisive and satisfying ending, tying up all the lose ends and answering all the questions left hanging throughout the series. Plus I was out of anything to read and my nephew Danny highly recommended them. His Mom, my sister Ducky, said they were okay but nothing spectacular. My opinion rates them slightly below okay.

Now, the kicker. The infernal so-called final book probably won't be the last one. The writer left herself several outs for more books. I like things tied up all nice and neat so I don't know if I'll wade through the next series of books where the last series left off in search of a definitive and satisfying ending or just resign myself to leaving everything hanging and call it good. Sometimes you just have to cut your losses and s
ettle for the lesser of the two - boredom or mediocrity, you know?)

Okay, rabbit chased as advertised. I grilled chicken breasts and yellow squash for supper, along with some potatoes I diced in big chunks and drizzled with bacon grease in foil packets. I put everything on the grill, including the potatoes. It was good stuff, if I do say so myself. Lamar pronounced it good enough to eat. High praise indeed coming from him.

Emmy and Jessica are doing fine. Jessica has been released by her doctor for both Emmy's birth and her gall bladder surgery. She went back to work on Monday and is working part-time, usually for 4 hours most days, and 8 hours on Saturdays. She usually has Wednesdays off. Jessica is gone just the right amount of time. Long enough to enjoy her time away from Emmy but still look forward to getting back home to see her and Jason.

Miss Emmy is growing like the proverbial bad weed. She now weighs 8 lbs. 9 ounces. She weighed 5 lbs. 14 ounces at birth then lost to 5 lbs. 7 oz. so she's made up some ground in the last month. She was a month old on June 8th. She'll be 7 weeks old Tuesday the 19th. Jessica had to start giving Emmy cereal in her formula earlier this week. She just wasn't satisfied with formula alone. She's already resting better, sleeping longer at a time and is noticeably more content. Jessica was the same way as a baby and I had to start giving her cereal with her formula when she was less than a month old. You can tell by Emmy's chubby cheeks in these latest pictures that she's filling out more all the time and she hasn't been missing too many meals.

I had just changed Emmy's diaper and her clothes and fed her right before Jessica took these pictures. It's obvious Emmy is getting very sleepy, especially in the last 3 pictures.

I think that's about all the exciting news that I can muster up from my week thus far. I have a few emails and comments that I want to return tonight then I'm hoping for an early night. Anything before 1 am is early for me. I suffer from NightOwlism.

Here's wishing everyone a great Friday and a blessed weekend.

Emmy does look like a content baby. My "baby" will be 33 years old on June 28th. They sure do grow up quickly although as you are going through it sometimes it doesn't seem to be quick enough. Grandkids are a lot of fun.

Thanks for coming by my beautiful new design. Kristen does do nice work. If you know anybody who'd like a new design, get her in touch with them - she'll do it very reasonably.

Hey, what was the series you didn't really like?

Now come on! You're not going to give me a hint about what series of books that was?

I hope you got some good shots from Lamar's procedure, for the Christmas cards.

Sounds like one of my exciting weeks.

Ray had that procedure last week and a broncoscopy (sp?) the next day.

Ouch.

Emmy is precious.

And this?

"...some potatoes I diced in big chunks and drizzled with bacon grease in foil packets..."

OH MY WORD. I'd dip those suckers in Ranch dressing and call it supper. DELICIOUS. Thanks for the great grilling ideas!

Diane,

My sweet friend you could never be boring. I think it is just wonderful the way you and your sisters spend time together each week.

So glad Lamar’s procedure is over and that he got a clean bill of health. I know those things are not fun but what a blessing to have it done and over with.

Boy I too suffer from NightOwlism. I just didn’t know it had a name before I read it over at BooMama’s.

Love and Hugs, Lyndy

Sounds like a wonderful week, Diane, and your meals sound good enough to eat LOL.
When my Chicky was about 6 weeks old, I started putting a little rice cereal in her bottle at night ... from that time on, she slept through the night ... aaah, bliss !! The Health Care Centre sister was horrified, but she was my baby, not hers !! You gotta do whatever's right for you, don't you !!
Anyway, hope you have a brilliant weekend.
Take care, hugs, Meow

Hi Diane ~~ You sure do keep busy. So glad your Lamar's procedure went well with good results. Emmy is so lovely, and I am glad she is more settled now. Jessica's work hours sound very reasonable, which is good.
Thanks for your comments ~ sorry we can't swap some of our weather, but we will survive!! Take care, Diane, Love, Merle.

Your boring and uneventful days sound like heaven to me and probably a lot of other people right now. I know all the moms out here are crazy busy with the kids out of school.

She's so, so sweet and it's wonderful the way she's growing. I did the same thing with the formula. Gave them just a little bit right before bed at night from the time they were two weeks old and they started sleeping much longer. To heck with the baby books. I say do what works!

It's always nice to catch up with you, Diane. And those potatoes sound easy and delicious. There are very few things that aren't improved by adding a little bacon grease! LOL

Hope you have a nice lazy weekend coming up. Think of me. ONE WEEK. Somehow, I doubt my weekend will be nice and lazy. :-)

Come back over and see what my night was like!

I had that nasty procedure this last winter and the prep was much worse than the procedure.

What love! Emmy looks so happy and quite simply....loved!

Glad you made it through your very busy week. Why is it the first weeks of summer, when all I have scheduled on my calendar..is down time, a thousand things appear and need to be addressed! I had hoped to be lounging by the lake this week, but alas, appointments, deadlines, and things-procrastinated have taken priority!

Emmy is adorable!

Diane

Oh, the dreaded colonoscopy. The best part is that it doesn't have to be repeated every year!

Your pictures of Emmy are adorable, as usual!

I hate series books...I'll get so mad to pick one up to find up I'm in the middle of a series...grrr!!
Your grill foods sounds great...we've not grilled much but maybe when we get back from the mountains we'll do more!

I can't believe she's almost seven weeks old already!! She is so cute - so very, very cute.
Your week sounds just right to me. Family, food and a good doctor's report. I tend to like boring. I must be getting old, because I just can't stand too much excitement :-)
You have a great weekend Diane!!

Enjoy this time while you can, granny. Once Jessica, Jr. starts crawling and walking (she just looks like she's ready to get up and go!) she'll have you running around the house all day. It's gonna be a workout that'll make Richard Simmons jealous.

She's absolutely beautiful!
