Sunday Dinner, May 6, 2007

Surprise!! I'm home! Just in time for Sunday Dinner, too.

I'm open to eating out for this Mother's Day Sunday
Dinner, but if I end up at home cooking, we'll be having spaghetti and meat sauce for our Sunday Dinner.

Before anybody gets all excited thinking that I'm making homemade spaghetti sauce, don't. I bought a big jar of Ragu original sauce and I'm browning some ground beef, then adding the spaghetti sauce. It won't take long to prepare, so I'll make the sauce after I get home from church and boil the pasta. I hate leftover pasta, so I always make it fresh.

That's it. Unless someone brings something else to add to the menu, of course.

So what are your plans? I figure a lot of my readers will be treated to lunch this Mother's Day, but if by chance you're cooking please share your meal plan.
Now you know I didn't come home from Jessica and Jason's without new pictures, so here they are.

Most of them are pretty self-explanatory, I think.

Jessica is breast-feeding Emmy, and she latches onto almost anything if she's getting
hungry. While Jessica was taking a bath today, Emmy woke up hungry. She latched onto my finger as I was comforting her and was content until Jessica could nurse her. Jessica snapped a few pictures for me before she took Emmy to nurse her.

Dad watches his baby girl as Mama nurses Emmy. Are they adorable, or what?!

The next several are of Emmy. She's a big 'un, now ain't she?

Since she sleeps so much right now, it's harder than you might think to catch her with her eyes wide open.

If you ask Jessica, she'll tell you a different story, though. Emmy is eating every 2-4 hours and Jessica isn't getting much sleep. At least not much at a stretch. She's getting 2 or 3 hours here and there. While I was there I managed to get Emmy to sleep about 4 hours straight a few times, but most of the time she's ready to nurse every 3 hours on average.

Since Jessica is nursing, I couldn't help much with feeding Emmy right now, but Jessica will be pumping her breast milk for bottle feeding after she goes back to work. No word on when that might be, but it will be several weeks yet, I'm sure, especially since Jessica had to have a C-section.

Most of Emmy's newborn outfits just swallow her, even the 0-3 months stuff. She has a few outfits that almost fit her and plenty of things to grow into yet.

Would you believe Emmy is already smiling? It's very fleeting and hard to catch, but she is smiling.

Jessica has been taking it pretty easy and keeping her feet up a lot of the time, but she's feeling much better. In fact, she's feeling better every day. She's still really swollen and retaining a lot of fluid, but that should improve daily. She and Emmy have their first checkups on Monday.

You might not be able to guess, but that bundle that Jason is holding is little Emmy. A more doting, loving, involved Daddy you'll never find, I don't think.
All through Jessica's pregnancy Jason has went to high school every morning to get one last credit in English so he can graduate, then worked all afternoon into the evening to support them. I am so proud of him, and I told him so. He has shown such maturity and responsibility. A lot more than even some older men, I have to say. He is a good Daddy already, and has been there for Jessica all through her difficult pregnancy and through her delivery.

Mama loves you, Jason-Bob. :-)

Grandpa likes Emmy a little bit, too. He's
pickled tink over her. Can you tell by his expression in that picture? I'm thinking besotted might be the word I'm looking for here.

Lamar likes babies, but he can't wait until Emmy's
big enough to push in her stroller. He took Jessica for walks all over town in her stroller when she was tiny, and friends still talk about it when we see them around town.

It won't be long before Emmy is that big! I
told Jessica and Jason they'd better enjoy her now, because they'll turn around and Emmy will be starting school, then she'll be graduating, then married before they know it!

I remember my Mama and the older folks talking about how much faster time flies as you get older, but I never understood it when I was younger. Now I really do understand it, and it is so true.

This last picture is one of my favorites so far.

I had big plans for a Mother's Day post, but Emmy's arrival kind of threw a monkey wrench in the works. A very welcome monkey wrench, I must say.

Next to my first Mother's Day after Jessica arrived, I have to say that this will be the best Mother's Day I've ever had. Thank you, Jessica and Jason, for being loving and responsible parents, and choosing life for my Emmy.

Thank you from the bottom of this Grandma's heart for my Emmy.

Mama loves you, Jessica and Jason. And Grandma loves you, Miss Emmy.

I love you, Lamar. I don't tell you that enough, I know, babe.

Once again, I want to wish everyone a very happy and blessed Mother's Day.

May God richly bless you by meeting all your needs, and may you have enough to share.

I am blessed beyond anything I deserve this Mother's Day.

I know you wish your Mom could see her. You and I both know she does see her and is smiling down with joy and pride!!
I got very misty eyed when I saw the love on your face, because I know (as does every Grammy) just how you feel.
It's hard to put into words into one experiences it.
Sunday dinner for us: Our daughter is preparing the meal, so I'm not sure what it will be. We'll be together, and for me, that's all that matters.
Love and ((hugs))

You deserve all this and more, Diane. The love you feel for your family shines through in this post. I can't begin to say which photo is my favorite but I'm thinking it might be that last one, the one where you look like you can't stand that baby. LOL

Happy Mother's Day to you and Jessica. Monkey wrenches happen, don't they? That's OK...monkey wrenches actually come in mighty handy sometimes.

I love that you're a grandma!

I'm so glad you got to post today! What a nice surprise. I love love love the pictures. Those grandpas can sure come in handy!!

We had a big meal today. Everything was simple, except cutting the ribs apart. I'd never done that before and don't think I'll do it again. My mom and dad were here, as well as both kids, spouses, and grandkids. So it was a good day. But I did end up doing the dishes and most of the cooking. It was all good, though!

Congratulations, Grandma Diane!

Kev and I finally both finished Part 8.

Hi Diane ~~ A lovely post for Mother's Day and wonderful photos.
Emmy is so beautiful and looks so
cute with her eyes wide open, but my favorite is the last one of you and the baby. Pure love, that will grow and grow. Your Spaghetti sounded nice. One of my sons and his wife were here and I served them roast chicken dinners, which we all enjoyed. Thanks for the wishes for Mother's Day and I think you had the very best of all.
And so did Jessica, glad she is doing so well. Take care, Love, Merle.

Aww, what a beautiful post. Thanks so much for sharing all of the pictures and your thoughts. Emmy is so beautiful, and seeing the new family together really brings a tear ... or ten ... to the eye! This was all meant to be, obviously. :) And Jason, if you're reading this, I just want to tell you that you're an amazing young man. The world needs many, many more like you!

As for Sunday dinner, it was lasagna, Italian olive bread, salad, and apple pie. All lovingly prepared by my daughter and husband as a Mother's Day treat. How lucky am I? :)
