WHAT'S BEEN GOING ON AT MY PLACE...

Remember my last post where I whined about all the work I had to do here in the apartment? Here's some photographic evidence of my labors. All the stuff you see piled over there in the corner is from my pantry shelves. Well, that's giving them a far grander name than they deserve. Actually, they're cheapo plastic shelving from Walmart, but they work for me. All my canned goods and dry goods are in that pile, and that's my blender under the quilted cloth cover there in the middle foreground. Now I get to put all that stuff back in there. Eventually. Not tonight. Not tomorrow. Maybe not even Friday. Probably Saturday. Perhaps.......

I am going to Mountain View again with my sister, zztop, to take her granddaughter back home to her Mom. We'll be gone overnight, and I should be back home Friday sometime. Sooooo......all this stuff will be waiting for me when I get home. I do have some good news to report. My landlord did get everything done today that he was supposed to do. I have a new thermostat...Sorry the picture is not any better, but I still have some issues with my camera and the computer, and this is the only one that would open. Take special note of the black marks all over the wall around the new thermostat. That's from the landlord's son's dirty hands. Nice, huh?

And he did put in a new water heater. Wanna see? Glad you asked....If you look closely you'll see more black marks from the landlord's son's dirty hands.

He also fixed the stopper doohickey in the bathroom vanity sink, but that's kind of hard to illustrate with a photo, so you'll just have to take my word for it without photographic proof this time. The stopper wouldn't raise and lower because the hooky thingy was rusted out on it. That's a technical term, hooky thingy, did you catch that? Lamar's been stuffing a washcloth down in the drain to keep water in the sink to shave. Gets tedious real quick, and I told them about it in December. Prompt service, let me tell you.

I hated to have all this work forced on me, but I'm glad to get it done all the same. At least hubby and Jessica were out of my hair while I was working. I have always been a
let-it-go-then-work-on-it-until-it's-all-done binge cleaner, but mercy sakes, it's hard on an old fat girl to try to do it that way anymore. I've worn out the "Tard" thing, so I guess tonight I'm exhausted. Or as BooMama and Sister say, I'm plumb knocked.

Speaking of BooMama, I promised her I would post a picture of a homely homemade bookshelf that my Daddy and I made when I was a young teenager. Yes, I am from genuine Southern Redneck stock. We took an old TV cabinet and pulled out all it's innards, and put a shelf in it made from a culled dining table leaf. Back then, TV cabinets were made from REAL WOOD. In this case, solid wood, not veneered. Unheard of nowadays, but common back then in the 70's. This thing is built like a brick outhouse (*you thought I was going to say something naughty, now didn't you?!*) and would probably stand up to a 1 megaton nuclear blast. Well, it will hold me up, and that's saying a LOT.

Anyway, I brought the homely bookcase with me when I got married, and have used it ever since. I have some bookcases that zztop made me and some others that are more aesthetically pleasing, but I treasure that bookcase, as ugly as it may be to anyone else. It represents time that Daddy spent on me, and with me. As I've mentioned before here, Mom and Dad's house burned in 1987, and they lost everything they had except the clothes they were standing up in. This ugly bookcase is precious to me, because it's one of the few things I have left from my childhood and from BTF....Before The Fire.

It's going on 1 am and I still have to sleep sometime tonight and pack for tomorrow, so I'm going to post this and try to get my packing done and maybe a few more things. I'll be checking on the blog tomorrow some, then I'll be gone till sometime Friday. Wishing everyone a great week, friends. :-)

Have a safe trip. I too am on the road again, this time on a one month RV trip to Idaho & Eastern Washington State. I stopped tonight in a campground about half way across in the town of Ellensburg. There is a Day's Inn here that has a nice campground, too. I will be semi-dry camping for a week & a half starting tomorrow so it is good to have full hookups tonight & a sewer connection to empty everything tomorrow morning before I leave.

Have a good trip Diane! You still get more done than I could on any given day. ;) I'm "tard" too. Like, all the time.

Love the bookshelf!

Hey Diane,

I hope you have a fun trip. I need to do the cleaning thing myself. My whole house needs some TLC.

Take care.

Yippee! You accomplished all that you needed to. And now you get to walk away and take a much deserved break!

Stinky on the dirty hands bit.

You are Funny! I feel your pain when someone is supposed to be at your house fixing something and they leave a mess for you to clean up! What the heck! At least you now have lots of hot water to shower after you get all dirty cleaning up the mess they left. Bookcase - ingenious :-)

I love the bookcase! We have an old bookcase Chris' uncle made when he was in shop class in high school, probably 35 years ago. It was ugly brown, but since we've owned it, it's been painted cream, then dark green, then red, and now it's blue and green stripes, to match Grayson's bedroom. If it's wood, I'll paint it! (Which used to horrify my husband, but now he's used to it!) :)

You've been so busy! Glad you are getting away for a bit of a breather.
I treasure homemade things much more than storebought, so I can understand your attachment to the bookcase :-)

Diane,
BooMama and I had a good laugh about you being "knocked"! :) I'm sure you feel better now that everything has been cleaned out. I have a feeling you may change your mind about putting away your pantry items before leaving for the mountains, though. Just think how much better you would rest and what a clean, organized house you would come home to! But, whatever you decide to do, go have some much deserved R&R with your family!

I have a couple of old pieces of furniture too that others might think ugly but they are items I treasure because of the memory behind them!! You surely deserve a break from all that cleaning you've been doing so go and have some fun!! Glad the landlord finally got things fixed up...I guess it's the same everywhere, my mom lives in an apartment building and it takes months before the landlord comes and fixes anything!! Be safe my friend and be good:-)

I hate big projects like this but like you, I feel so good when they're done. Sounds like you deserve this break you're getting!

My goodness, the things you do. It takes a lot of motivation for me to clean out my pantry ... although it desperately needs doing. I'm sure there are things way back in there with use-by dates of 1994, or somewhere near there !! OOoops.
Glad you had all those repairs done, you won't know yourself.
Enjoy your trip, drive safely, catch ya when you return.
Take care, Meow

I love the bookshelf. That's the kind of thing I'd have to hold onto. You deserve a break, for sure. Have a great time, and a safe trip!

Keep safe today. Arkansas is in A RED zone today. Bad weather forecast for your area. Love your bookshelf, an heirloom.
