Sunday Dinner, August 8, 2010

Hello, all, sorry I've been away so long, but it really couldn't be avoided. I've been a sick gal and I'm still not doing just great, but better than I was a week ago, somewhat.

To make a long story short, I haven't been feeling well for over a month now. At times I thought it was my sugar but it's been well controlled, and it honestly never occurred to me that it might be my heart acting up until last Saturday when I had a bad spell while I was out shopping at Wal*mart.

I had pressure in my neck and shoulder, cold, clammy drenching sweat, dizziness, shortness of breath, almost passed out, the whole nine yards. I went to the ER and they kept me till this past Monday, doing tests, including a heart catheterization and several EKG's. The EKG's showed some abnormalities, so they know it's something to do with my heart, but now we're trying to find out what exactly is going on.

The heart cath showed no blockages in the major vessels, but they're almost sure that I have some blockages in the smaller vessels. I went back to the hospital Thursday morning and had 2 different types of CT scans done and also carotid dopplers of the veins in my neck. I haven't heard from those tests yet and I'm sure it will be at least Monday before I hear anything, if then.

We all know they don't get in any hurry with those test results.

They did tell me that I haven't had a heart attack, but if I hadn't come to the ER when I did, it might have happened soon.

I'm still really weak and haven't been doing much of anything at all. I haven't had much of an appetite either, and didn't realize till they weighed me at the hospital, but I've lost over 40 lbs in the last month. I can certainly afford to lose that much and a lot more, but I don't recommend doing it the way I've done it.

I don't feel like doing much of anything except playing my games on my computer, if that. I seem doze off quite a bit, so I guess I just need the rest still. Hopefully the test results will shed some light on things and I can be treated so I can start feeling better.

In the meantime, I'm not going to church tomorrow, but I'm going to cook Sunday Dinner for me, Lamar and my sister, Ducky. It's going to be a minimal meal, not much actual cooking involved, but it will work.

I'm going to roast a whole chicken and quarter some potatoes to add in with the chicken. I have some mixed veggies in the freezer, including broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and squash that I'll steam and I think I may cook some butterpeas as well, but that may be a little ambitious. We'll see how I feel when I get up and start cooking Sunday morning.

Now, what's for Sunday Dinner at your place? Please share your menu/plans in the comments if you like.

For those of you on Facebook I try to update there occasionally and any major news I might have will be posted there by me or my daughter, Jessica. I hope to get back to posting more often here as I feel like it, but can't make any promises about that.

My sincerest thanks to all of you who have offered up your prayers, love and concern for me. Words cannot express how blessed and loved you make me feel, beloved family and friends.

For now I'll wish you all a blessed Lord's Day. May God meet all your needs, and may you have enough to share, dear family and friends.

Rest up and get well, my friend. You know I am praying for you. Jessica has been so good about posting the updates. I know one of you will let us know asap when you get the test results. I am going to be gone most of next week so if I don't hear anything...I will still be praying. God bless.

Hi Diane,

I have been following Jess' updates closely, but I am really glad to get all the details here from you. I hope they get your test results back to you soon, and that there is nothing serious going on. It all sounds so scary and I'm really glad you went to the ER when you did. Absolutely no sense in waiting on something like that! Please take good care of yourself and allow yourself to rest as much as you need. I am praying for you and thinking of you and your family. Lots of love.

Diane, I'm glad you are feeling better, and I hope they find out what's wrong and that it can be easily fixed. In the meantime you take care of yourself and don't overdo it!

Not sure what I'll have tomorrow. You know me, I just decide at the moment and go for it. I'm not much of a meal planner.

Still remembering you in prayer!

Love and hugs,
Rachel

I am so sorry that you're not doing well Diane. I have prayed and will continue - for results that will show something that can easily be taken care of. You are such a precious lady. Take care and get lots of rest while you wait.

Dear Diane: You have been in my prayers since all this happened. You take care of yourself, girl, and just pamper yourself. It's no fun being sick - I know - but keep doing those things that you enjoy & forget working around the house.

Your Sunday dinner sounds wonderful and is one of my favorites. I'm going to have a pork roast tomorrow with baked potatoes and veggies. Simple but good.

I'm praying for you, my dear friend, and I hope you have some answers soon. (((HUGS)))

Love you much - Julie

I am so glad that you are feeling better Diane, I don't use Facebook so haven't been able to follow your progress, but thought from your last posts that you sounded exhausted. Rest as much as you are able to and look after yourself.
Best wishes to yourself and your family

Hi Diane,

Such good news that you haven't had a heart attack and that at least you are well on the way to finding out what's wrong so they can fix you up!!

Like everyone else, I've been following Jessica's updates and waiting for some good news.

Don't be doing too much, I don't think cooking is a good idea, let someone else take care of you!

Rest, rest, rest!!

Love and hugs
xxxxxx

Diane, I hope you start to feel like your old self soon. All the tests and stress of it all probably don't make you feel any better. It can take a lot out of you and make you feel worn out. Let everyone pamper you - you seem to take care of everyone else. I pray that they find the answers and make you "all better."

Just take the time you need to recuperate. It can be a slow process, but you will feel better. I'm so glad to hear that you didn't have a heart attack. Just hang in there and know that we all are praying for you, my friend.

Like violetlady said, let everyone take care of you for a change. I'm sure they won't mind. ;)

Jess has done a great job of keeping us posted on Facebook, Diane, as you know. I'll be glad when they get to the bottom of this.

The episode in Walmart must have been very scary. Thank goodness you got medical attention. We need you up and feeling better soon!

Meantime, thank goodness for the games on FB, huh? They keep you from losing your mind when you don't feel well.

Saying a little prayer for you, of course, and hoping you feel much better, very soon. xoxo

Take care of yourself and don't feel guilty about resting. 40# is a lot to lose in a month and a very hard way to do it but hopefully you will be back to your normal soon.
I have been fighting shingles for a few weeks and am still get tired easily.

Diane, I have been so worried about you.... I'm glad that you have been getting all of those tests so that they can pin down what is wrong... The "not knowing" is the hardest part... Please take it easy and know that you are on my prayer list....
I am glad you are home sleeping in your own bed.....

I opened a can of beef stew and cooked some rice for our Sunday dinner...It was good and very easy. With the heat, I haven't done much cooking lately...

Take it easy....

Oh, Diane! I had a really bad feeling last week when you didn't post anything, so I immediately said a prayer for you. All I could think about was this horribly hot weather we have been having and I know how hard it is on everyone. I live in southern Ohio and it's been really hot here this week. But, I had been watching the temps in your area for the last several weeks and saw how it's been 100 or so a lot. Please, Dear One, continue to take it easy and do what your doctors tell you to. Just know that you have a friend praying for you, faithfully.

I don't get any updates from you or Jessica on my FB feed anymore and don't know why. I haven't changed anything on my settings. So, this is all news to me! I do hope you take care of yourself now....I did have a heart attack the week after my mom died...it showed up when I went in 2 weeks later to have my pre-op bloodwork and EKG done. I knew I'd had something but just shrugged it off, as we women generally do. We have to realize that we are not infallible as we like to think. You just take care of yourself now and keep us posted! Love you, my friend!!!
