Sunday Dinner, May 23, 2010

My, another week has flown by! Hard to believe it's been a week already since my last post, but the calendar doesn't lie, so it must be true.

I'm sure that someday I'll eventually cook Sunday Dinner again, but it won't be this week. Lamar is still gone to visit his brother, so after some discussion with my sister Cecil/Lisa we decided that since only she and my sister Ducky would be here for dinner anyway, the three of us will just go out to eat somewhere.

But I'm sure many of you are actually cooking Sunday Dinner, so feel free to share your menu in the comments. And if you're going out to eat somewhere, please share your plans as well.

You'd like to hear a recap of the events of my week, you say? Well, glad to help you out. ;o)

My hubby has been in Dallas/Ft. Worth all week so I've taken advantage of that by getting a lot of cleaning, purging, tossing and decluttering done without him underfoot.

Tuesday I grilled pork steaks and burgers for Jessica, Emmy, Sue, Cecil and myself, and Jessica also took Jason a goody bag for lunch. It was good if I do say so myself, and we also had corn on the cob, tater babies, sliced tomatoes and rolls to round out the meal.

While I was watching the grill, Jessica hauled out most of the contents of my outside utility room and together we ended up tossing most of it. Well, I made executive decisions from my lawn chair by the grill and Jessica did nearly all the work, carrying the rejects to the side of the road.

I have a lot more room in my outside utility room now, and people were already stopping to scavenge through the reject pile before we went indoors to eat.

Works for me: I get more room, somebody gets some free stuff that's still useful and doesn't end up in the landfill just yet.

On Thursday Jessica helped me go through one of my living room closets and one of the closets in my spare bedroom. Once again we did a major purging of stuff from those two closets, with Jessica doing most of the work and me ruling on what to keep and what to toss.

I got rid of a lot more stuff, including a 10-year old computer monitor that still worked, an equally old computer tower that still worked but was so outdated that it couldn't be used online, and lots of Christmas decorations and assorted paraphernalia.

I looked out back a little earlier and was amazed that of the mountain of stuff Jessica hauled out to the road, only a few things remain from a pile of stuff that was over 6 feet high! Most of the stuff still had a lot of use in it, that's why I'd been so reluctant to get rid of it, but it was past time to let it go and move on, so I'm glad several people will benefit from my pack rat syndrome.

Jessica also moved my old Singer sewing machine in its cabinet from behind my dining room table into my spare bedroom. I'm sure with it in there I'll use it and my new portable sewing machine more often. I can also use my old sewing machine cabinet as a table for my new portable machine, so hopefully that will work out well.

As an added bonus, before she went home Thursday evening, Jessica cut my hair for me. I like my hair really short, especially in hot weather, and it was more than time for a haircut. It feels so much better now, and just in time, because it was 92F here today and so icky sticky I don't even really want to discuss it. If it hadn't been for the nice breeze that was blowing it would have been absolutely miserable, and I'm not ready for Summer in Arkansas just yet.

Not that my preferences are being considered, before someone points that out.

On Friday I had Emmy from 8:30 am till almost 7 pm, as usual. I managed to do 5 loads of laundry and get them hung up, folded and put away, and I also moved a small bookshelf from my spare bedroom and put it in the space freed up by moving my old sewing machine cabinet.

The bookcase takes up less room than the sewing machine cabinet and I think the exchange is going to work better all around.

Emmy and I managed to fit in a tea party after she woke from her nap. I was ready for a break by then, and our pot of hot Earl Grey tea really hit the spot. It tickles me that even at 3 years old, Emmy already likes hot tea. I like my tea really strong, and Emmy drinks it just as strong as I do, though with a little more sugar than I prefer in mine.

I also did some other cleaning and housework, but I think I've bored y'all enough for now. One thing Jessica and I didn't get done was emptying all my kitchen cabinets and doing the purging and rearranging routine in there, but we'll get to that someday soon, hopefully. It's not like it's going anywhere, after all.

I do want to apologize for not being more present regarding commenting on blogs and on Facebook. As you can see, I've been really busy with real life things, and I'm also really involved in Kingdoms Of Camelot on Facebook. It takes a lot of time and effort to really play the game as it should be played, and I'm nothing if not committed when it comes to most things I do. ;o)

I still have some things I need to do before bedtime tonight, so I'd better wrap this up and get busy. I have a couple of pairs of pants to hem for a friend, and I want to take a shower and make a nice pot of Earl Grey tea to enjoy while I rest for a bit before bed.

Y'all have a blessed Lord's Day. May God meet all your needs, and may you have enough to share, dear family and friends.

This wasn't boring at all. I'm all involved in Farmville and the co-op farming and such. Real life, however, often takes precedent. Oh, and the word verification I have to type in? Blessi. I interpret that as "Bless I", and I like to think it's a blessing you've sent to me. I know, I know. Silly me.

It's always a pleasure to drop in on Saturday evening and see just what has been going on with you during the week. And, of course, check out Sunday's menu. We just had some inside painting done and now I am in the process of decluttering as I attempt to put things to right. Blessings from Idaho...a chilly 48 degrees this evening. Hugs...v.

Hey Diane!
I hope you have a nice meal out tomorrow. Sounds like a great plan!

I love purging closets and drawers. I also love scavenging through other people's junk! How great that so much of your stuff went to a new home. That's the best way to get rid of things, in my opinion.

UGH, I don't envy your summers. I know I'm going to be miserable this summer being pregnant, and I can't imagine what I'd do if I lived further south. Invest in a high-powered a.c., I guess. :-)

Have a wonderful week!

Wow! You've been busy! I teach school and my last day this year is June 4th. We're having our son's HS graduation party on June 5th. But, the very next week, I plan to do a lot of what you've been doing......cleaning out my upstairs!!! My project includes painting and redecorating, too. I know I'll be most of the summer doing it but it is oh, so necessary.

Enjoy your day tomorrow!

Hi Diane,

Don't feel guilty about not cooking, it is time to enjoy yourself and eating out is always a favorite way of many to do so.

Anyway, I just scrolled down further and saw the pics of Emmy. She grows prettier every day and her smile is wonderful. LOL

I am definitely not cooking. You can read my blog post to see why. Anyway, have a great Sunday and week ahead.

I need to do this again - did it when I retired almost two years ago, but it's built up again. Never did do the closets. I need to weed out the clothes that are too big, in the faith that I never need them again!

Hey, can you send Jessica up here to me for a few days???

Ugh it's so hot here to now and I have the AC going full blast and I know I shouldn't! My conscience bothers me but I like to sleep at night and can't in this humidity.

No cooking for me this week either, my hubby has gone to do some volunteer work with our son and won't be home till tomorrow night!! I miss him but it's so nice not to have to cater to anyone else. Just me and the dogs!!

I should be doing some drawer and closet organizing too but this time of year most of my energy is spent in the gardens.

I'm happy for you that you got things arranged so you can use your new sewing machine. Just think of the fun things you can make for Emmy!

For my dinner today I will be having a crock pot thing I made yesterday(lean beef chunks, green pepper, onion, tomato sauce and seasonings) over rice. Probably some broccoli and winter squash too since it needs to be used up.

I don't have time to get involved in the Facebook games but I sure know a lot of people who do them.

Have a beautiful Week Dear Diane and may the Lord bless you and yours.
Hugs!

good grief! Jess must be exhausted!

and I got this far:

Jessica also moved my old Singer sewing machine in its cabinet from behind my dining room table

when I was struck down by a full fledged PANIC ATTACK!!!
I thought for a min you'd put your singer in the trash pile!!!

don't DO that to me again!

;-)

Hi Diane, you are allways so busy and it's exiting to read about all your doings, whatever you are up to.

Sunday we had homemade ovenbaked fishgratin with carrot slices and with white, cooked potatoes and butter civette sauce.

When we buy fresh fish, we allways buy more than we do eat for one Dinner, hence we have enough for a new, home made dinner. Often enough for several dinners. It's easy to defrost from the freezer after a long day at work. Well, we take it out from the freezer the evening before and store it in the fridge. (Must hide it away from our hungry Cats).

We have moved to our Summer Home this weekend and today is Holyday here in Norway (Penticost). Lot's of things to do in the Garden.

Have a great week to come.

btw. I've been a lousy commenter as well since months

Wow; sounds like a good week!

I have yet to get the spring fever bug, although I know it's inevitable.

How wonderful that Jessica is so much help. I wish that I lived closer to my daughters so we could do more things together.

Funny; my grama got me started on hot tea and sun tea. I still think of her every time I have some. I bet Emmy will think of times with you as she enjoys a spot of tea now and again. ;)

Have a great week, my friend.

Hello again from a long time away.
I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one who throws stuff in closets, and leaves it there.

Once we finally deal with it, we get extra space, to start all over again, but I'm trying hard not to.

Now that we've discussed that, I want to tell you the prettiest thing on your blog today is that
shot of your girls.

I plan on going through the closets this summer since I have abbreviated working days while I stay at home with the little man. I'm ready to have some simplicity in the house! Blessings my friend!

Humidity in St. Louis is here and already making me feel like a noodle.
Take care.
