Sunday Dinner, January 24, 2010

Most of you have already noticed the sandwich on the chef's tray on my Sunday Dinner button and know what it signifies, I'm sure.

Several weeks ago my sister Cecil (Lisa) bought a couple of smoked Boston butt pork roasts and we had one for Sunday Dinner. Since we only ate one of them, I froze the other one for a later meal and that's what I'm fixing for Sunday Dinner this week.

I'll slice the meat off the bones and put it in a baking pan tonight, then when we get home from church Sunday afternoon I'll put it in the oven to heat. We'll eat the sliced meat on buns with barbecue sauce and slaw.

My nephew Danny and his wife Mikki, along with their almost 3 year old son Seth, will also be here for Sunday Dinner and they're cooking a ham to slice for sandwiches, so everyone can choose between ham sandwiches or pork barbecue sandwiches, or both.

That's our menu tomorrow: pork barbecue sandwiches and ham sandwiches. What's on the menu for Sunday Dinner at your place? Share your plans in the comments if you'd like. After being without my wireless router for nearly a year, I finally got the gumption to call India and get my laptop configured to use my wireless internet again.

I'm happy to share that I'm blogging from the comfort of my recliner in my living room and it's much easier on my legs than sitting in my office chair at my computer desk. Not to mention that there's a TV here in the living room so I can multitask.

I was on the phone for an hour with the Indian tech support guy and finally got my laptop and the router configured. My Southern accent and the tech guy's thick Indian accent didn't mesh too well but after a lot of repeating and spelling out words we got it done.

I should mention that I asked for an American and was told that they don't have any Americans on staff and that Netgear, the maker of my router, outsources their tech support exclusively to this Indian company.

Some of you may remember that I had a bad experience with Netgear's Indian tech support back in February 2009 and was on the phone with them for hours, literally. I finally told them I wanted a new router, which they sent, but I was so disgusted with them and their service that I've been using my laptop wired directly to my modem ever since I received the replacement router. It's just been sitting in a box until a couple of days ago.

I decided the other night that I was either going to get this Netgear wireless router going or I was going to buy a new wireless router, but a different brand this time. I'll never buy another Netgear product again! If I have any other problems with this router I'll definitely buy another wireless router, but it won't be a Netgear product.I'm also pleased to report that I've finally gotten my spare room cleaned and decluttered. I put away Emmy's playpen for emergencies and she's now sleeping on the daybed in there. Poor baby, when she stretched out her feet and head hit the mesh sides of the playpen. It was past time to get her out of there and into the regular bed.

I also got a lot done here in my living room. I still have a lot to do as far as cleaning and decluttering but I've made a big dent in what needs to be done.

We have a huge entertainment center and I realized the other day, the only actual electronics in this huge piece of furniture that's taking up a whole wall in my living room are the TV and the DVD player. The rest of the stuff in it are knick knacks and some framed photos.

I want to get a much smaller TV stand with a shelf to accommodate my DVD player and then either give away most of the what nots or put them in other places. I also have 2 hand crafted wooden book shelves that my sister Donna made for me several years ago that I want to place on either side of the TV stand.

When we were given the huge entertainment center several years ago I moved my book cases to make room for the entertainment center. I've never been happy with where I had to put the book cases and want to move them back on either side of the TV.

That's one of my planned projects for the near future.

I also want to downsize to a smaller computer desk for my desktop computer. I have a big computer desk and I love it, but it overpowers my small spare bedroom and that space could be better used.

My poor old desktop has about had it and I'm using my laptop almost exclusively these days, so I don't need that big computer desk anymore. I hooked up my 10 year old Windows XP desktop to the internet the other night and it locked up twice in a couple of hours.

It's just too outdated to use for the internet, but it's still okay to use offline and I have a lot of programs on it that are too outdated to run on my Vista laptop, so I'll keep it for now and hope nothing bad happens to my laptop.

I have a couple of closets that have become catch-alls, and I want to declutter those, and also my outside utility room needs decluttering again. It seems like I just cleaned those closets and my utility room, but after some thought I realized it's been 3 years since I sorted and tossed out unneeded and unwanted stuff from those closets so it's past time to do it again.

And I also want to go through all my kitchen cabinets and drawers and sort, toss and declutter in there.

Y'all think I have enough on my to-do list for the next little while? Of course all those things will be dealt with as I have time and will depend on whether I'm physically able to do the tasks, so I'm sure it will take me a while to work through my list.I've yammered on enough for now and I still need to slice up that pork roast and study my Sunday School lesson among other things, so I'll get this posted and get busy.

Y'all have a blessed Sunday. May God meet all your needs, and may you have enough to share, dear family and friends.

Your dinner sounds delicious!! Yummy! I love to make BBQ Pork sandwiches and my family loves it, too.

I have the same problem in my house, Diane. I'm working on it as I can. I get my knee shots starting next week (for 3 weeks) and I'm hoping I'll be able to do more again after they take effect. It always feels so good to get rid of stuff and de-clutter, doesn't it? I just don't do it enough.

I hope you have a wonderful and blessed Sunday tomorrow. I don't think we'll be going to church because we are pretty much house-bound with the muddy roads. We've had so much snow and rain!!

Take care!!

Love, Julie

Your dinner sounds good, Diane... I think I'll be making chicken soup...TF is sick and I'm trying to come down with his crud, so I think we need some soup....

I've been watching the weather and noticed that you are getting some heavy rain and winds.... Stay inside and safe. Drink some of that Earl Grey and enjoy your easy chair.

I have to confess that I need to de-clutter too. I have a hard time throwing things away... It doesn't help that I am the child of a depression era parents. You are inspiring me to get some done...

Glad that your wireless router is up and working... I remember when you went rounds with that Indian last year...You had more patience than I would have...lol

Hope you have some luck getting rid of you over sized entertainment center and desk... Maybe there is someone in the family that could use it or you could just sell in in the want ads.. Have a great week, Diane.

Enjoy your Sunday dinner with your family, Diane...I'll be having a scoop of homemade chicken salad and a bowl of butternut squash soup.

Sounds like you've got enough on your to-do list to carry you through to Spring!

Oh I love, love BBQ'd pork sandwiches. Then I serve the pork later in the week in baked potatoes with a little raw onion and cheese. Dang, that made me want lunch even though it's only 10:45!

Anyway, Hi! Not sure how I got here but I signed up to follow your blog.

Hope your week is great!

Good morning Diane.Well it is still morning here. For dinner today I just made a big pot of white bean soup with kale. I think I am going to make some cheese biscuts to go with the soup.
Have a wonderful day don't work to hard I have found out that when you get rid of stuff whats left multiplies.

I don't have any definite plans for dinner. Maybe soup... I'm just too tired today to be creative and there is soup in the freezer. Oh how I love being able to pull out those 'easy' meals on tired days!
My 19 year old grandson had emergency surgery yesterday. They had to remove his gallbladder. I was at the hospital and didn't get home till well after nine so am bushed today!
Hope all is well with you dear friend.

A long "to do" list Diane. I have one equally long. I'm sort of past those days when I would just tackle the whole lot and work until it was finished. A little bit at a time is my preferred method these days.
Dinner sounds good. If the guys want to watch football, it will be perfect.
I love sitting on the couch and doing my blogging. As you said - we can watch tv too!
Have a blessed week Diane. Always love visiting with you.

Hi, Diane: Yo are on target. So many people these days are down-sizing everything--from homes to cars and more. The de-cluttering will make life easier and I enjoyed reading about your project. lol! :)

That to-do list sounds like it'll keep you busy for awhile! ;o)

I'd love to get rid of a few dust catchers myself...

I'll take one of those sandwiches please!

Router schmouter! Technology can make me tear my hair right out. Then when I have to talk on the phone to someone and we can't even understand each other that puts me right over the edge to foaming at the mouth! Sorry you're having troubles with this.

Supper - TexMex Skillet and that's it - no sides, no extras.

Blogger just ATE my comment! What I was saying is that every time I pop in, I grin. It is just as though I was listening to you chat in real life, Diane.....
Don't get me started on India and help lines. Do you remember the Dell saga? I shudder at the thought. You have certainly Got Plans. I need to Make Plans. Diana is coming home for a visit fairly soon, and every time she walks into the house, she glares at me and say, "Don't you DARE die, ever, and leave me to sort this place out!". Hmmm. Maybe I need to make a start. Somewhere. When I get home. I can plan while I am here. Yes, that is what I will do. I will Draw Up Plans. Have a great week, and don't over do the decluttering! Lots of love.

PS I dream of a laptop and the opportunity to multitask!

I realized the other day that most of the places I decluttered back when I retired a year and a half ago need to be done again. Amazing.

We brought food home from Wendy's because we had all 4 kids and I didn't get to the store - not fun with them anymore!

I cracked up at Linds' comment -

I think you've got many people decluttering Diane! I know you've got me doing it!! I'm hoping to soon be done so I can get back to some serious relaxing! lol
Dinner in our house yesterday was leftovers from Saturday when I made a roast of beef with mashed rutabaga, green beans, Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and roast parsnip. All topped with gravy!

Chicken divan...enough so there'll be leftovers.

After the rip roaring tear I made through this house last spring, I don't think spring cleaning is going to be as hard this year. But I do need to declutter. It's amazing how "stuff" accumulates, isn't it. I can take it to a certain point and then suddenly I can't stand it and it ALL has to go!

Hope you have a great new week.
