How 'Bout A Meme?

***EDITED AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST***

One thing that seems to be a recurring theme lately in Bloggityville is a dearth of blog fodder. Added to the lack of anything inspirational to blog about for some of us is the fact that life keeps happening outside of our computer community and it's sometimes difficult to balance real life responsibilities and still come up with interesting blog posts.

I don't presume to have the answers to these dilemmas for everyone, but for myself I decided to take matters into my own hands and make up a meme. It's been a while since I've done a meme and I just don't really have anything earth shattering to blog about, so a meme it is.

I'm going to just answer these with a reasonably short and probably pithy explanation, but if you choose to do the meme, just do your own thing. Answer each question in one post, treat them as writing prompts and do a series of posts with them, whatever tickles your fancy. Just let your imagination run wild and free and do your own thing. Or not. This is the land of the free and the home of the brave, after all.

No requirement to tag anyone, or to link to me or anyone else. Feel free to let me know if you do the meme so I can read your answers, or not. That free and the brave thing again, ya know. Just copy and paste the questions to your blog, erase my answers and do whatever makes your liver quiver.

Oh, and you may use the meme button I made up for this meme if you wish.

So let's get started then:

1.] How come I can never find: Clothes that I like and will fit me when I have a little money, but when I'm broke flatter than pee on a plate I find all sorts of bargains? It never fails that I find things that are cute and fit me when I don't have a penny to my name!

2.] I wish I'd never started: Coloring my hair. I wanted a warm brown color to match my natural color, maybe just a shade lighter, to hide some of these natural white highlights I've acquired over the last 10 years or so. I chose a shade called Brown Sugar and it turned my hair auburn. Or RED, according to Cecil. Now it's growing off and I still have white temples and about 2 inches of dark roots with about 2 inches of auburn ends. Phooey.

3.] I wonder why: God made flies, mosquitoes and gnats? I know other animals eat them, but there are so many other bugs they can eat that don't bite and irritate people.

4.] Mama always told me: Don't worry yourself into an early grave. It only makes you gray headed and doesn't change a thing. She was right. And I'm not much of a worrier, so if you need anything worried about, I'm not your girl.

5.] There's this one thing in my closet that I just can't seem to get rid of: It's a holey old t-shirt that says, "Dude & Dudette" and it has a decal of a couple of dogs on it. It's huge even on me and it's so worn and comfy. It's too delapidated to wear anywhere but fishing or for some other messy activity, but I just can't let it go. It's almost 30 years old, no lie, and a dear friend passed it on to me. When it gets so holey and threadbare that I can't wear it outside the house I guess I'll eventually give it a decent burial. Or more likely pitch it unceremoniously in the trash along with the potato peelings and old soda cans.

6.] My favorite guilty pleasure is: Starbuck's White Mocchas. I love 'em and have one almost every time I go to Barnes&Noble at our local mall. There's a Starbuck's Cafe in there and I like to get a cup of coffee and a book and read while Cecil and Sue shop in the mall. Sometimes I get a regular black coffee but more often it's a white moccha. I don't care much for regular mocchas, but white chocolate is a weakness of mine. Of course we don't go to the mall every week so I probably only indulge 2 or 3 times a month, so I don't think it's that much of a vice.

7.] I always forget to: Buy ink cartridges for my printer when I'm at Wal*mart. My printer has been giving me that "You're nearly out of ink, dingbat!" message for months now, and still I forget to put ink cartridges on my mental shopping list, and the thought slips away until I turn on the printer again. Duh!

8.] I have never: Flown on an airplane or other aircraft and God be my helper, I never will. I'm not claustrophobic or scared of heights in that context, or scared of being that high up in the air. It's a healthy fear of crashing that keeps me from getting on a plane! If you hear that I died in a plane crash, you can bet somebody drugged me and loaded me on there with a forklift, or else that sucker crashed on my house, 'cause I ain't willingly climbing on an airplane with the intention of flying anywhere.

9.] I'm obsessed with: FARMTOWN
on Facebook. I love it. I'm at level 33 and at level 34 I can buy the mansion! I have over $4 million on there; too bad I can't cash it in for real money!

10.] One of my favorite memories is: Family Christmases when I was young. All my sisters and their families would be there, along with my Grandma Hervey and more that are lost in the mists of time and have fallen through the large cracks in my memory. My brother in law Charles and sister Sue were always there early, around 5:30 or 6 am, and woke me and Cecil. Daddy would already have the wood stove blazing and Mama would have the turkey in the oven and already be cooking other dishes for the noon meal of turkey and dressing, pinto beans, giblet gravy, homemade yeast rolls, mashed potatoes, green peas, cranberry sauce and celery sticks. For dessert there was always homemade pecan pies, MAMA'S BLACKBERRY JAM CAKE, BLACK CHERRY JELLO COMPOTE, MAMA'S ITALIAN CREAM CAKE and more. I don't remember most of the gifts that were wrapped and under the Christmas tree, but I remember the most important gifts: the love and care we had and have for each other.There. That concludes my version of this meme. Feel free to do this one or not.

The rest of this week promises to be busy, with a trip to Wal*mart today and then I'll have Emmy here Thursday and Friday. Emmy's potty training continues and we're making progress. :-)

Hope you're all having a wonderful week! Lord willing I'll be back Saturday evening to do my Sunday Dinner blog post.***I decided to link to each one who participates in this meme, as I become aware of them. That way we can all read one another's answers. :-)

Great meme! I enjoyed reading it. =) I am addicted to Farm Town, too! But I only have over $100,000. I want to buy the farm house and that's $300,000. I have a ways to go! Have fun with Miss Emmy! She's a doll!

I'm not addicted to Farm Town at all...really...ahem...ok maybe just a little bit! hehe I actually made a waterfall yesterday:-) I loved this meme of yours and so enjoyed your answers. I've flown before, back in 1986 and 1989 but haven't since and any time I even think of flying again, I get in a panic!

Hope you have a wonderful day my friend. xoxo

Great meme, Diane! I'm definitely going to do this one. I'll let you know.

Diane, you are a really good writer. Honestly, you truly are blessed in this area. Do you ever think about signing up for a writing class? If you have a local community college, I bet they have some you could take. I really think you'd enjoy doing something like that.

Anyway, I know I just did a post on travel, but I have to tell you that I absolutely hate flying. I hate it. I get so nervous. It's just the worst!

Catch ya later, friend!

What good questions and fun answers! As Sammy said, you do have a way with words!

I have several posts in my head, but finding the time to do them is my current problem. I'm trying very hard not to get addicted to anything on FB, but to just find old friends. So far, so good.

I used to love flying - I'm not afraid of any part of it, but I do have a claustrophobia problem that has developed over the years, so I have to have an aisle seat or I start having a problem in my mind!

I still have clothes from 20+ years ago, too. Nobody can ever say I don't get good use out of my stuff...

I feel for you on the printer ink. I forget until I go to print something and the printer starts blinking 'No way, no how, sister!'

I think this meme looks fun!

I totally get the clothes thing. I have the hardest time getting rid of stuff. Really though, if you haven't worn/used it a year; you're probably done with it. I guess it's time for me to stick to that rule. I just cleared a bunch of stuff out; but I haven't been able to find my good winter coat shell: I still have my inner liner, but can't find the rest of the jacket that has the hood and all. This stinks 'cause it's only a couple of years old and those typt of coats are about $200.00 up here. It's rated for sub-zero temps, and if taken care of, should last.

I feel so irresponsible! I'm gonna turn this matter over and let it rest for a bit.

I hope that your week goes well. I'll use your meme next time I have time to blog! :)

Love, Vikki.

I especially like your #6. Well, you know me and mochas. A local place pushes one they call the Black & White which is half regular mocha and half white chocolate. That's a good mix as the plain white chocolate one it a bit too sweet for my taste. Guess I am just not that sweet. As to Barnes & Noble, take a look at my post today (yeah, I know it has been 3 weeks since the last one) and see what I've gotten into for books. And B & N is a supplier for me.

Re: the t-shirt. If the picture on the front is in decent shape, cut the front out of the t-shirt in about a 12 or 14 inch square. Get some underlayment from the fabric shop to keep it from stretching. Add a backing out of a scrap of fabric, and stuff for a throw pillow. That way you get to keep your favorite t-shirt that you never wear, and gain a cute pillow too.

Enjoyed reading your answers and since we'll be so close to each other, I can just drive over - no need for an airplane. I actually love flying - its so fast to get anywhere and I've heard over and over it's much safer than driving our crazy highways!

Great meme - always great to know a good blog friend even better!

Btw: So when you come to visit us in Norway, you will like to go by boat then?

Great meme Diane. I have been short on blog fodder myself and short on the time to do it too! Then sometimes I think of posting something and I don't because I think it'll be boring to everyone. I guess I should just do it and bore them anyways!

I know what you mean about your old T-shirt. I had one for probably 20 years that I finally let go. It had been passed on to me by my SIL. It was just comfortable!

Broke flatter than pee on a plate? Never heard that one before!! LOL

I've never checked out Farmtown on Facebook. If it's a time pit then I don't need to go there though!

Last year was my first time flying and I did enjoy it very much. Amazing how fast you can get there and the view is awesome too, being above the clouds for a change!! The seats didn't have much leg room; my knees were right against the seat in front of me and forget crossing your legs!!...that was the bad part. I do like a little more leg room. Maybe first class is roomier, but I don't know! I didn't pay attention as I was boarding! I'd do it again though!! Lots more are killed in motor vehicle accidents than on planes!

I guess God had his reasons for making those pesty insects, but they sure are a pain!

That was fun Diane!! I also agree with a couple other commenters about how well you write. I think I'm commented on that before to you. You have a real talent for writing!!

I like this meme, Diane.

I agree with some of the others that you really are gifted when it comes to writing!!! I believe I told you that back when you wrote a story quite some time back about your childhood. You really should put all your family stories together and send them off somewhere. If we all enjoy reading what you write, just think of all the ones being deprived of it. Some people have it, and some people don't...and you are definitely are one that DOES have it!!!

Loved your MEME!!! Great topics!!! I wish I had time to do it, but you know the demands on my life and how little time I have for fun things. But I surely did enjoy reading yours!!! It was really quite entertaining, to say the least!!!

I read this entire page...so happy to read all the details about the improvement of Lamar's eye. Just one of those things that you'll never know what caused the infection.

Dear little Emmy....sounds like Grandma is doing one super job potty training! Training a second child is so much easier, really...it's like monkey see, monkey do. At least it was with my kids.

Yes, dear old Farm Town! I had to laugh when I saw that! Yep, we are addicted to it...what time did we quit this morning....4:30am??? LOL

Love ya, Diane!!!

I did your meme-it was fun!

I saw your Meme at Sammy's so I linked to both of you today and completed the Meme myself. It was a good one.

Loved your answers. Let me share with you that you can purchase your ink cartridges on eBay for less than half what you pay in Walmart. Use a reputable seller and be sure you get "genuine" not campatible.

Farm Town is all the rage with my facebook friends and I'm trying it but have no idea what I'm doing.

I saw this meme at Brenda's and borrowed it!

I can agree with many of your answers. I studiously avoid Farm Town, though -- I spend too much time on the computer in general and Facebook in particular as it is.

I've been thinking about coloring my hair -- especially as people in restaurants keep trying to give me a senior citizen's discount and I am not a senior citizen yet -- but the thought of problems in getting the right color and then dealing with roots keeps me from it.

Thanks for the meme -- it was fun!

Oh -- a couple more things...

My favorite verse when flying is "Underneath are the everlasting arms."

And my mother's maiden name was Jennings!

Hello,
I came over from Barbara H's. I am copying the meme and will do it another day. I enjoyed your answers.

Well that was fun reading your answers! I did this meme this morning - and stole it from Barbara H. as well! I left #3 blank because I couldn't think of ANYthing I was wondering about at that moment. (still can't) Most wonders I google and answer for myself! LOL! Yours was a good one! I know He had a reason for them though...
