Sunday Dinner, March 1, 2009 & Emmy Snow Pics

***Edited below to add the link for my recipe for Broccoli Salad***

Well, my Sunday Dinner this week is accompanied by lots of "ifs". We now have at least 6 inches of snow on the ground (pics in a bit) and it's still snowing. In some places the roads are just wet and in others the snow is packed and icy.

I already know my church van won't be running in the morning so I won't be going to church. According to how the roads look in the morning our church services may be canceled altogether.

Depending on whether any of my family make it to church or not and whether Jessica, Jason and Emmy make it here for Sunday Dinner, I may or may not be cooking.

So....and this is a big "if", "if" anybody shows up for Sunday Dinner, I'm going to broil some pork steaks in the oven and make either some stewed potatoes or some homemade mashed potatoes to go with the pork steak. I also made a huge bowl of fresh broccoli salad tonight so I'd have it ready just on the off chance that anybody shows up for Sunday Dinner.

Please note that I'm not cooking anything until I get up in the morning and assess the weather and call around to see what's shaking with everybody. If it ends up being just me and Lamar here for Sunday Dinner we'll probably have dig ups, or I may fix us some pancakes or bacon and eggs.

What's in the works for your Sunday Dinner this week? Share your plans/menu in the comments if you'd like to participate. For some reason I feel compelled to tell you that I cooked supper tonight. We had fried pork chops, speckled butter beans and cream gravy, and I sampled the broccoli salad to make sure it was okay. And I'm happy to report that it was great! I've been craving it for a couple of weeks and it really hit the spot tonight.

I really need to add the recipe for my broccoli salad to MY RECIPE BLOG. It's easy to make and so yummy! If I do add it I'll update this post and link to the recipe.

***I ADDED MY RECIPE FOR
BROCCOLI SALAD
TO MY RECIPE BLOG.
YOU CAN FIND THE RECIPE HERE.***

Also, as soon as I get this post published I'm going to make a pot of coffee and a big bowl of SNOW CREAM. Now that recipe IS on MY RECIPE BLOG if you'd like to check it out.

Oh, and apparently Blogger fixed the issues with the broken links because they seem to be working now. Knock on mother boards or something like that.On to the snow pictures taken today.

The first two I took today about 8:30 pm and it was still snowing at the time, as you can tell in some of the photos because the flash caught the snowflakes and highlighted them. It's a little hard to tell, but the snow is at least 6 inches deep there on the grass beside my front sidewalk. And the rest of these pictures are some that JESSICA took today and sent me of Emmy and Jason playing in the snow. For some reason there are a lot more pictures of Emmy than there are of Jason, LOL! ;-)

Just a wild guess here, but I'd say that Emmy LOVED playing in the first snow that she can remember, and judging from that last picture she was a little upset when her Mama told her she had to go inside.JESSICA has more pics up on HER BLOG if you'd like to check them out. Some are different than these and some are the same. I'm going to add these and more from today to my photos on MY FACEBOOK when I get this published. And now the snow cream and coffee is calling my name.

Y'all have a great Sunday. May God meet all your needs and may you have enough to share.

I think that you guys officially have more snow than us who live in Anchorage! I'm amazed! It's so cute to see Emmy's little pink nose! I miss my Judle-Bug! I think I'm going back a little early this year, if possible.

We are having home made beef barley and mushroom soup with home baked rosemary bread for Sunday Dinner. K. is working, so of course I'll be sending some with him. Hopefully, it'll turn out okay. ;)

Have a beautiful Sunday!

Oh my gosh, that Emmy in her bright pink parka is just too adorable for words!!!!! How precious. Only a kid, or a kid at heart, can love the cold and snow!!! Me? I'll take the warm balmy winters where I'm living.

Gotta love those photos you shared tho. Super.

Enjoy your Sunday...snow or not...family for dinner or not...it's still Sunday, the best day of the week.

Your broccoli salad sounds divine. I will be trying that for sure. And Emmy is just the best out there in the snow, Diane....such fun for little ones!
Have a wonderful, warm Sunday!

I hope the kids manage to make it to your place today - nothing quite like being cozy and warm inside with your family when it's snowy outside.

The pictures of Emmy are so cute. I'd have a hard time choosing a favorite, but it might be that last one. It's pretty obvious she'd stay out there until her nose fell off. LOL

I'm not sure if it's the grapes or the smoky bacon that grabs me about your broccoli salad recipe. OK, it's the bacon. ;-) I'll be making some of that soon.

Hope you have a nice new week, Diane. Don't wear yourself out with the cleaning and sorting - after all, we're both ahead of the spring cleaning game - we should be done before spring even gets here, right? xoxo

Emmy looks like a doll! My kids still have that look when we come in from the snow.

We keep getting snow this year too. (Cape Cod MA) Can't wait for spring to get out to garden.

What are pork steaks?

We are a small family here, 2 kids, hubby me and my Mom, so I don't get to cook for alot of people. It must be nice.

Nice to read about a fellow Christian.

Good morning,
The pictures of Emmy in the snow are so cute. It looks very cold. The weatherman predicts it will be 85 here today. I just went outside to feed one of my cats and it is already really warm. It doesn't feel like Spring. It feels more like Summer.

I want to look at your recipe for Snow Cream, I remember my mama who lived in Canada for most of her life until she came to California, used to tell me about the snow ice cream that she and her mama would make.

Since it is going to be so warm here today I think I will make a pasta salad and maybe some hot dogs.

Stay warm and have a wonderful Sunday.

This weather is just amazing lately Diane. Snow!! My grands would be every bit as delighted as Emmy to see snow, but none this year. They thought when they moved into the Dallas area they would surely see some. It's gotten cold enough, but it just hasn't snowed.
We were up to 90 degrees on friday and then it got to near freezing last night. Our heating system is thoroughly confused - a.c. one day and heat the next!
Stay nice and warm and cozy. In all likelihood the snow will disappear quickly.

All that snow looks like so much fun! No wonder Emmy was enjoying it, it doesn't come too often so it's a big deal to play in it.

Hope you were able to make it to church and that you'll enjoy your Sunday dinner... be it pancakes or meat! :)

The snow missed us Diane. We got just a little on the decks. The roads were a bit slick this morning but nothing too bad. It is cold though and windy.

The snow is pretty. I bet it won't last long though. I know Emmy enjoyed it a lot!! I love to build snowmen when the snow is damp enough. Hopefully Emmy will get to enjoy it some more before it's all gone! She looks so cute in her hooded coat!!

Hugs to you!!!!

I know by now you've enjoyed your snow ice cream! How fun.

We just had leftover homemade pizza today, since I had plenty from last night.

IT'S MARCH!

I am still waiting for snow here in Delaware. I think we will get a few inches. My daughter is in Massachusetts and they forecast 16 inches! I always love your Sunday dinner posts. Some things I have never eaten (I am a real Northerner). I wondered what "dig-ups" were, but figured it out! My husband and I call it grazing. I love those pictures of Emmie. She is just the cutest.

Seeing your photos of snow are a glimpse into my future. We're expecting about a foot of snow tonight. I can't say I'm happy about this. :-( I thought winter was over!

Your broccoli salad sounds delicious. Reading the recipe made me remember how I would CRAVE your potato salad when I was pregnant. I'm telling you, I ate your potato salad like a mad woman! Remember that? :-)

Sweet Emmy! She looks like she's having so much fun!

Have a wonderful week, Diane. I hope you don't get snowed in!

Today we had to rush out of church and get Hayley to a school friend's birthday party at Chuck e Cheese's. That place was a madhouse and I got claustrobia just dropping her off and picking her up. DC, Feisty, the babies, and I met Kev and Sema at Boston Market - we had a lovely time together and the twinnies totally destroyed their Sunday look with corn bread and mac and cheese.

I'm TARD! We walked to the sculpture park with all 4 girls - the babe took turns crying in the stroller, and we took turns carrying them. The big girls had so much fun on the sculptures. But then they were too tired to walk home without fussing.

Hey Diane. I have seen your thumbnail in the comments of a few blogs that I read. I noticed on Jess's blog that you are Emmy's Grammy! Just wanted to say hello!

I would LOVE to be eating some snow cream :)

Oops! I got carried away over to your recipe blog to find your broccoli Salad recipe and forgot where I was and left a comment there. Oh well here I am again.
I love the pictures of Emmy in the snow. It's so precious to see the reaction of the little ones having a new experience. And she is so expressive. You are right about the last picture. It's great!
Have a good week Diane,
Love you

YOu have more snow than us now!! Ours all melted off over the past few days. Looks like Emmy had a blast. My own kids are kind of "over" the joy of snow this winter by now.
I made elk stew in the crock pot this morning so that when we got home from church at 4:30 it would be ready...we had some bisquits I made too...and it was yummy!! I love when I am ready for us to just eat right away when we get home.
Have a great week..stay warm!!

Diane
Hope you are staying snug and warm inside away from the snow.
And I'm thinking you didn't get to cook sunday lunch for everyone because of the snow?!

Carole Burant said...

Glad to see some of the snow I sent you finally arrived! hehe I can well imagine how excited Emmy was to be able to play in it, considering you don't get very much snow usually. We have so much here, we don't know where to put it anymore when we shovel the driveway!!

Always enjoy hearing what you're cooking or have cooked:-) I made a roast chicken last night with mashed potatoes, peas and stuffing. Leftovers tonight!!

I still haven't tried Snow Cream yet...and with all the snow we have here! lol Have a wonderful week my friend. xoxo

Hi Diane,
Love the look of joy on Emmy's sweet face enjoying all the snow.
You sound so ambitious with all your cooking and cleaning. I need to wash windows, but with all this rain it's pointless!
Sunday dinner was an enchilada casserole, refried beans and tossed salad. Your meal sounds yummy.
Off to check out your broccoli salad!
Have a wonderful week..

Emmy is sure cute playing in the stuff but you can keep your snow. We had too much back in December when we ended up with about 24 inches of the stuff. We usually get it maybe once every three or four years and then to have than much! But it left almost as fast and then of course a lot of the streams and rivers flooded. Now they tell us the snowpack in the mountains is below average so we will experience water shortages next summer. Man, that is hard to believe.

Emmy looks darling in that beautiful coat!!! I love the color!!! She is a little dolly, anyhow! I can see she enjoyed the snow...at least she got to play in it for the first time. I saw some pics of her that you had posted on Facebook, but I was unable to leave a comment, for I didn't see a comment box.

Alrady copied your recipe for broccoli salad and the snowcream!

The snow was beautiful, and I am glad for the kids here as they don't get to see it very often. It is melting yet, and TV weatherman told this morning that we are to get up to 74 degrees by Saturday! Isn't that always the way? I don't know about you, but I am so ready for Spring now! I, too, hate the heat and humidity, but I can stay in where it's cool then.

Have a great week, Diane!

Diane...YES!! anyone can buy from the dry pack canneries at the LDS churches. The best way to find out their hours (every one is different) is to look in the newspaper and call the number listed for the Bishop and they will tell you who to call..or if you know someone who is LDS they can tell you who the Dry pack person is in their area. The prices are great and such a nice way to store basics!!

Yay - you're back!
