Sunday Dinner, October 12, 2008

You may or may not be happy to know that I'm cooking Sunday Dinner this week.

I have a large beef chuck roast in the oven right now. After it gets done tonight I'll let it cool then refrigerate it until we get home from church tomorrow afternoon.

I think most all my regular readers know that I don't like warmed up foods in general, and potatoes in particular. I'll peel and quarter some potatoes when I get home and add them to the roast before I put it back in the oven for the potatoes to cook and the roast to reheat.

After the potatoes and roast are done, I'll make gravy from the pan juices. According to how many are here for dinner I may also cook some Brussel's sprouts and/or some frozen broccoli, cauliflower and carrots from a bagged mix.

And that's my menu: Homemade beef roast, potatoes and gravy made by MY RECIPE and possibly some veggies. No dessert or anything else unless someone else brings it.

What's for Sunday Dinner at your place this week? Share your menu/plans in the comments if you'd like.I'm gonna make this brief tonight. My allergies are killing me right now. My head is so congested I sound like I've got an old sock stuffed up my nose. I'm already on an allergy pill and it doesn't seem to be fazing it. My allergies are worse this year than I can remember them ever being. Hopefully I'll start feeling better soon. This is going on 2 solid months of this sinus stuff!

Otherwise, I'm feeling much better overall. My sugar is under better control but still could be lower. I'm still dealing with those side effects from my diabetes meds that I've mentioned, so I don't know if my diabetic counselor is going to increase the meds again or not. I have to talk to her sometime this next week by phone and she'll make the decision then.

Here's hoping I'll feel more like blogging this next week, but no promises.Y'all have a great Sunday, and may God richly bless you. May He bless you with all you need, and enough to share.

Well, first of all, Diane, your Sunday dinner sounds great. My favorite vegetable in the world is Brussels sprouts and I can't think of any better smell in the house, this time of year, than a roast in the oven.

I'm making chicken divan tomorrow. I'd love to cook a roast too, but a week before payday, chicken fits my budget better. :-)

You sound like these seasonal allergies are really getting you down. I sure understand, my friend. Me too. Honestly, it's just a non-stop sniffing fest around here - all in the sinuses. I thought I had a cold because both the babies had colds, but I don't think so - I think it's this changing season and the allergies that come with it. I'm ready for a good hard freeze - that seems to nip it in the bud.

I hope you feel better soon. Until you do, just take it easy. This stuff just wears you out, doesn't it?

Hi Diane, sorry your allergies are giving you fits, but glad you're feeling better where the D is concerned.
I'm putting a whole chicken in the crockpot tonight for our Sunday dinner. Probably make mashed potatoes and gravy and orange glazed carrots. Then I'll make chicken soup with the leftovers and have that with turkey and cheese calzones for Monday's dinner. Double duty since I have 2 houses to clean on Monday.
Have a great week, Diane. And hope the sniffles go away soon!
It's supposed to freeze tonight so my petunias might not be looking so good in the morning!
God bless,
Brenda :)

My allergies have been bad this year too. I'm a bit weird, mine get worse when it rains so consequently they have given me fits this year.

Your dinner sounds yummy and brussel sprouts are a favorite of mine too. I won't be cooking Sunday dinner since we'll be on the road to Russellville. No telling which fast food joint we'll choose to dine.

Hi Diane;

Gosh, it's the 12th already!? My goodness!

Glad to hear that your blood sugar is doing better. I'm just sorry about your allergies. Hopefully, that will resolve itself soon.

We're having three bean soup and cornbread muffins for our Sunday Dinner. I just love this when it turns cooler.

Please feel better.

Love, Vikki

Oh, I truly hope your allergies clear up soon. Dealing with that is dreadful to say the least. The part I don't like is the 'stopped up nose' at night...I hate to have that, I have a hard time sleeping if I have to breathe with my mouth open. LOL

Glad to hear that your sugar level is getting under control. Yep, the side effects from ANY medication is not good.

Now about the dinner you have planned...I'm a glutton for punishment to be sure, and pan drippin' gravy --brown or cream, not matter which-- I just simply "Pig Out"...I love gravy so much. I even like just a piece of bread with gravy on top. Did I say piece? Well more like three pieces.

For our menu this fine day, I'll probably make lemon garlic chicken breasts with steamed broccoli and scalloped potatoes. I made an apple pie yesterday and we'll have the leftovers from that for dessert.

Happy Sunday to you Diane!!!

Mmmmm...roast sounds delicious! We're having leftovers for lunch and some kind of soup for dinner...probably potato soup. It's a soup kind of day here. Drove past the bank temp sign on the way home from church and it was 39 degrees at 10:30. Yep, a soup day for sure.

Sorry you're feeling ick. I hope you're back to normal soon.

Oh, and you made my mouth water at the mention of brussel sprouts. I'm the only one in my family that likes them, but like is not a strong enough word...I LOVE them. I'm adding them to my shopping list for next week!

Have a blessed day, Diane.

Hi Diane,
Your roast sounds perfect for Sunday dinner. Sorry to hear you're feeling bad with allergies. Maybe if you get some rain it will help clear the air?
Bill is taking me to the movies this afternoon and out to dinner afterwards as part of the continuing birthday weekend fun.
Thanks for your birthday wishes for me!!

Hi Diane,
I've been missing you! I thought about you last night and wondered if all was well. I'm sorry you're suffering so with your allergies and praying you'll get your medication regulated properly. I know that's always tricky.
Have a restful sunday and get well soon.

Geez, I wish I lived closer to you!!! Your Sunday dinners always sound soooooo doggone good!!!!! I rarely ever cook for just myself, only when company is coming....and no one is coming today. I do think I may just cook a little spaghetti up for supper tonight, though.

Sorry your allergies have been giving you a fit. I guess I am fortunate that I have never had that problem. It sounds so miserable. I do hope you feel better soon! You probably need a good frost there to end the allergy season. I hope you get the other meds straightened out, too.

I am trying to read a few blogs in between working today. I have a lot of catching up to do again.

Diane, That roast and potatoes sound wonderful. TF and I watched a program on BBQ this morning and I decided to put some ribs in the oven for a slow cook. I will make some rice, steamed veggies and some cornbread....No desert tonight. Too bad Jessica, Jason and miss Emily will miss that wonderful meal.

Sorry to hear that your nose is still running. Right now my allergies are under control and I can breath clearly. I still think you should try a Nettie Pot.

Keep working on your blood sugar and eat more whole grains for your carbs. Later, my friend.

Hi Diane,

I am so sorry you are not feeling well. I know sinus problems can really be hard to deal with and can make you feel really lousy.

I hope you get your blood sugar under control, but I'm glad it is some better.

Get well soon, Diane,

Love and Hugs,
Betty

Dinner sounds good. Allergies sound lousy! Sorry you're having such a hard time.

We're in Columbia, SC right now, and were in Athens, GA for church this morning - we ate at Sonic on the way out of town. We'll be at Myrtle Beach tomorrow for a couple of days, then on to another niece's house - 15 minutes from Nancy of Daily Blessings - we'll have lunch on Friday - Yippee!!

Sounds like this dinner is yummy.
Bet you will have a bunch of smiling faces at the table.

I am so sorry you are having such a bad time with allergies. They can really get you in a bad state. Hope you find something to give you some relief.

Take good care of yourself.

Diane,

I'm late, as usual, but your dinner sounds delicious. Even though it was my birthday, Sunday dinner wasn't very exciting. I've had a flu bug since Saturday night and spent most of my birthday sleeping or resting.

Enjoyed your post as always. I do hope your allergies are under control soon and that the side effects from the meds don't get too bad.

Blessings for a great week.
Mary

I love your Sunday dinner posts. My mother used to make pot roast in a dutch oven on the stove with the potatoes all brown and yummy. I have been making mine in the crock pot which seems to work out well. Your recipe sounds great - I think I will try it.

I am sorry your allergies are bad, but I feel I am not alone now. I have been feeling plain crummy for weeks and weeks. This is definitely a bad year for allergies - wonder why.
