Sunday Dinner, February 17, 2008

I pondered. I piddled. I procrastinated. And I finally decided that Sunday Dinner this week will consist of a huge pot of my homemade HAMBURGER SOUP and a cast iron skillet (or 2, depending on how many are here for the noon meal) of my homemade CORNBREAD.

I know that my sister Ducky will be here for dinner, and probably my sister Cecil. Jessica, Jason and Emmy may or may not be here for dinner. I'll make a huge pot of soup so I'll have enough for everyone, and if only a few show up for the meal the soup will reheat for another meal plus it freezes well if necessary.

Now it's your turn: What's on the menu at your place? If you want to participate this week just share your plans/menu in the comments.I'm pretty much wiped out this evening. I had Emmy all day then cooked supper for Lamar and me. We had homemade Mexican Cornbread, which turned out pretty good if I do say so myself. I still have to make the soup for Sunday Dinner, take a shower and study my Sunday School lesson, and I'd like to get in a bit more crocheting tonight.Emmy has a runny nose again and bless her, she apparently shared with me. Neither of us is really sick, just the runny nose so far, so I'm hoping it's just a common garden variety cold and not anything more exotic. Neither of us needs any more germy type maladies after being sick most of the Winter. Both of us were just beginning to feel better and almost normal. Okay, I should qualify that and say "normal" for us.Tomorrow will be busy day as most Sundays are for me, but even more so until after Easter. Ducky and I are both in our church's Easter program so most Sundays between now and Easter we have to be back at church at 3:30 pm for play practice. Doesn't give us much time off for the noon meal, and makes for a rushed afternoon.I have a few more awards to acknowledge. I'd like to thank both MARY @ MARY'S WRITING NOOK and PEA @ PEA'S CORNER for giving me the Friends Award, which originated with MARY, and for the Friendship Week Award from both MARY and PEA.

Thank you so much, ladies! I do appreciate each and every award, and these will join the rest of my awards on MY AWARDS PAGE.

With that I'm going to wrap up this edition of Sunday Dinner and wish you all a blessed Sunday. May God bless you with all you need, and enough to share.

Hi Diane,
Soup sounds good and it's always nice when you have a crowd to feed. We're going to our daughter's tomorrow. The weather is really nice so our SIL is going to bbq. I made a carrot cake for dessert.
Hope both yours and Miss Emmy's sniffles are short lived...
xo

This being the Third Sunday of the month, our church has a Fellowship Meal. I think the menu is beef and bean Chili cooked by the committee, and the instructions say for the rest of us to bring either a salad or dessert.

I baked some White Chocolate Chip Macadamia Nut cookies this afternoon.

Thanks for your condolences at my blog. Good Friends are hard to come by, so losing one and mourning are gonna hit me hard.

Feel Better Soon, both you and Emmy. You have some great pictures to remember the special moments.

Diane,

Sunday dinner sounds delicious. I wonder if you would share the recipe for hamburger soup.

I followed the link to your awards page and there are many beautiful awards there. You are deserving of all of them.

I've enjoyed my visit, as always. Have a great Sunday. Your Easter program at the church sounds wonderful.

Blessings,
Mary

Diane: My European parents had a tradition each Easter of serving cornbread with a dime stuck inside. Whoever had the piece with the dime had luck all year long. Mmmmm! I can smell your kitchen over here!!!!:D

so what part are you playing in your Easter play?

You just reminded me (bad friend bad friend) that I haven't made it to the PO with your Christmas gift YIKES!! I'm soooo sorry, I'll get it out next week! promise. All I can say in my defense is that working 12 hour shifts on nights is a kicker. Entire days pass without my knowledge between work, sleep and work.

Emmy's a cutie, even without hair. Maybe Grannie should borrow those clips so she can match Emmy for a kodak moment???

For some reason our cats don't want to be chewed on either....wonder why???

Good Early Morning Diane,
I had woken up a bit hungry and came to fix me a snack and thougth I would check my blog. It's addictive don't ya think? LOL. Hamburger Soup sounds so good. Sometimes when I fix my Homemade Vegetable Soup, I put hamburger meat in mine. And of course, you have to have a pan of homemade cornbread huh? LOL. The Mexican Corbread sounds good too. I've never fixed it, but I may have to look at your recipe and maybe try it out. I don't like spicy foods that well. Not only does it burn my mouth, it doesn't sit well on my stomach. Me and the girls will be having leftover Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup for our Sunday Dinner. I heated it up for our supper last night and there's still quite a bit left, so, I will re-heat it today. I sure hope you and Miss Emmy don't get that stuff that's going around. I tell ya, it's no fun at all. The way this weather is, it's no wonder everyone doesn't have the flu. I hope you enjoy being in the play at your Church for Easter. I don't know if our girls are having one or not. I haven't heard them say. "CONGRATULATION'S" on the deserving Awards from Mary and Pea. I scrolled down and read your post below about Miss Emmy. She sure is growing. They do grow fast. I can't wait to see what your making for that Nana.(I know who it is and I'll keep mum about it). LOL. Miss Emmy looks so adorable in the first outfit. I think Denim looks so cute on little girls. I remember our girls having some Denim Skirts and dresses. It's just almost hard to part with them when they outgrow them. The purple outfit is just too adorable. I do love the fur collar. It makes it look grown-upish. LOL. The purple hair clips are cute as well and will look cute with the outfit. And the pink poodle out fit is just to die for. So girlish I do believe. The little purse just sets the outfit off. She has quite a few teeth now it looks like. Has she bitten you yet? LOL. I remember when our girls were little and had their first teeth, they wanted to bite me all the time. It wasn't funny then, but looking back on it now, it's funny. You are most Welcome for the Awards I gave you and "CONGRATULATION'S" on some more very well deserved Awards. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.

Our son suprised us with a gift card to Olive Garden for Valentine's Day! So guess where we are going this evening??

Congrats on the awards.
I hope you and Emmy are over your sniffles soon! Have a wonderful day!!

I'm going out to lunch after church with my mom, dad, sister, and nephew. Typically, I always eat out on Sunday after church!

But, if I lived closer to you, I'd invite myself over to your house for your yummy food! LOL

Enjoy your day,

Howdy. I came over to see what's cookin'. Dinner should be about ready there. Thanks for coming over to my basil page.
I put a boneless pork loin roast into the crockpot last night with some goodies that make up into a kind of barbecue sauce. Soy, mustard, Blackberry jam, garlic, A-1 Sauce, sugar, I think that was all. So it cooked down and fell apart and we made sandwiches on big buns with mayonnaise and cheese. No vegetables. Too lazy. We had leftover pasta salad from yesterday that Nita(dd) made. (It DID have a few olives in it.) It was just nice to have it all ready when we got home from church.

Ray has the sniffles too. I think it's early pollen because he isn't exactly sick.

We had sort of homemade chili dogs with cheese tonight with a bowl of fruit cocktail.

Tomorrow I'll cook.

Emmy just gets cuter and cuter! What a beautiful baby! She looks like her mama, doesn't she?

I love hamburger soup! I was watching my sister's children (two 3-year olds!) so she and her husband could go to a wedding, so I just ordered some Thai food for dinner. It was good, but I sure would have prefered hamburger soup! Maybe later this week I'll make some.

Have a wonderful week, Diane!

Hope you had a great weekend. We wound up at Donna's eating Subway sandwiches and watching part of the race. Then I came home and pigged out on those little conversation hearts. Definitely not Weight Watcher friendly!

We grilled out, the steaks we'd bought for SuperBowl Sunday and never got around to, added a can of asparagus and microwave baked potatoes - easy, easy! Heck, really easy since I didnt do the grilling. After he spent the day working in the basement and I spent the day sorting 99 years of photos, it was nice to put on pjs and eat a cozy dinner together.

I was feeling a little apprehensive about my first "outing" since the mini-stroke, but Bennie and Rosie took me to Bob Evans. I had a chicken stir fry that was scrumptious! :o)

LOVE the pictures of Emmy! :o)

I have never heard of hamburger soup, but I'm sure it's good if you made it for your family. We don't eat a big lunch but usually eat our main meal at night. Last night we ate at the Cracker Barrel.

I have an award for you to pick up and put on your sidebar if you like it, and I hope you do.

Hugs,
Betty

Hey Diane,
Thanks for visiting me today. You like my pic huh? What I failed to mention is that is the grand Cayman Islands and I am going in May!My dearest friend and her hubby asked me to go with them all expenses paid in May. They have a daughter that has downs syndrome and I am going to go and help with Cayti girl so they can go out and do things together as well. It will be a trip of a life time and I am so excited. We are staying in a resort, with the ocean right out the front door, mercy... We are going to fly which I would rather go on a ship lol. I will post more pics as I get ready to go.
