The Daily Dose Award & Other Stuff

Since I'm probably going to be up most of the night watching the weather I figured I might as well blog. There's a tornado watch that comes right up to the counties just west of us and it looks like the worst of the system will arrive here in the wee hours of the morning. Yay! There's already reports of confirmed tornadoes and damage from the same system in Missouri and Illinois. Please spare a thought and a prayer for those unfortunate people. In other news, I'd like to thank my dear blogging friends TAMMY, KAREN, LISA & BETTY for honoring me with THE DAILY DOSE AWARD. This award originated at XANDRA'S BLOG and here's her description of the blog award:

So here's to all the blogs that you've discovered that you can't possibly live without. They make you laugh, cry, think and feel connected every time you read a post. They give you a thrill as you see them loading into your browser and you get an equally satisfying thrill when you see that they have commented on your blog."
Thank you so much, ladies, for the award, and I want to give this award to each of you reading this. Yes, that's right - everyone on my blogroll and each of you that read this post. If you are on my blogroll or if I visit you regularly or even if this is your first time to read my blog, please take this award with my blessing. Each of you add to my life and my enjoyment of our little blogging community and I'm honored to count you as a blogging friend, and I hope you feel the same way about me. You all give me a thrill when I see a new comment on my blog.

I've added the award to my AWARDS PAGE. I'm pleased to report that I have my recipes for PORTUGUESE BEAN SOUP, RED BEANS & RICE and DIANE'S BEST EVER HOMEMADE VANILLA ICE CREAM posted on MY RECIPE BLOG for those who are interested.

I ended up making a skillet of hot cornbread to eat with my Portuguese Bean Soup that I made for Sunday Dinner this week and it was good if I do say so myself. My sisters Sue and Ducky ate bean soup and cornbread with me and Lamar for Sunday Dinner and we put a big dent in that 5 quart Dutch oven of soup! Lamar had soup and cornbread again for his Sunday supper and finished off the last of the soup for his supper on Monday night. I was about souped out and cooked a hamburger for my supper.

I just generally don't care for leftovers, especially several meals in a row. I get tired of eating the same thing and I also don't care for the taste and texture of most things when they're reheated. I can't think of any kind of meat that I like cold or reheated, especially fried chicken. After it gets to room temperature or colder I'm done with it. I hope I never get hungry enough to eat cold chicken.

Not that I'm wasting away from hunger or anything. Far from it, I'm disgusted to say.I went to my Dr's appointment today and got mixed reports from my lab work and other issues. My blood sugar is good and my cholesterol is excellent. My doctor (who is younger and a LOT skinnier than me!) told me he wished his cholesterol was as good as mine. My HDL (good cholesterol) is 79 which is almost double the number they like it be above, which is 40. My total cholesterol is 189, which for me is a little high since mine is usually around 150, but I'm not complaining. On the flip side, my blood pressure is still high even after taking Dyazide for 2 months. My feet and legs stay swollen even with the BP med. which contains a fluid reducer, or diuretic. And so, my Dr. is sending me for an echocardiogram on Jan. 16th to check for possible congestive heart failure. My Mama had CHF and it contributed to her death, I'm sad to say.

If you would be so kind and be so inclined, I'd appreciate your prayers on my behalf as I undergo testing. If I don't have CHF, I'll probably have more medical tests to determine why I retain so much fluid. If I DO have CHF I'm sure I'll have more tests related to that. My Dr. won't prescribe any more meds for my HBP or my arthritis until he gets the results from the echocardiogram because if I have CHF all my meds will have to be completely changed. Oy!Jessica is feeling much better, praise the Lord! Emmy is about the same, bless her heart. She's still teething, still has a runny nose and congestion, still running fever off and on. She has good days and bad days. Jessica is taking her to the Dr. today and they may be doing some tests on Emmy. I'm not sure what kinds of tests, whether blood work, allergy testing or what, but I hope they can find out what's going on with Grandma's baby. It seems like Emmy's been sick forever, and she has been sick since last September, really.

Prayers would be much appreciated for Miss Emmy as well, and Thank You to those of you who have already been so faithful to lift me and Miss Emmy up in prayer. And I think I'm done for now. How's that for a dramatic ending?

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Hope the bad weather passed by with no damage.

I'll be thinking about you when you have the echo. I hope the doctors find nothing wrong with your heart, but are able to find the cause - and cure - for the fluid retention and high blood pressure.

Poor little Emmy! It's no fun not feeling well, for her and for Jessica.

Shelby goes back to school today, so life around here should get back to normal - or at least what we consider normal!

Hello dear Diane is has been a while since I visited but life has a way of surprising us when we least expect it as you well know. I have had shingles since Oct.and then broke my ankle 2 weeks before Christmas..so my life has changed dramatically. All casted up hobbling on walkers and zooming in wheel chair..I have little time on the PC which is on 2nd storey of my home.(hard for me to get up on my own)
I want to make sure that I do entent to you:
Wishes of a sparkly and brighter New Year with peace love and good health> certainly I hold you and yours in my prayers.
Have a good day Diane.

Thank goodness for insurance, Diane. It's a comfort to know your doctor is thorough and being careful about prescribing meds for you until they find out what's going on. I hope it's nothing serious and something that can easily be remedied with the right medicine.

Poor baby. You know, I read somewhere, years ago, that the pain a baby goes through while teething is more than an adult could ever handle. I always think of that when I see a baby suffering through cutting new teeth.

Praying for good results on these tests, for Em to feel better soon and especially for the weather around there to calm down. I'd be hiding in a closet!

xoxo

I keep all of you in my prayers. You've really been through it in 2007.

No tornadoes, at least for now. That's a good thing.

Congratulations on another award!
I'll be praying that your tests don't show CHF. Bill's dad had that, so I know what that involves..
We've had the severe weather here too, and we're due for another round today. I pray you'll be safe from harm.
Off to check out your recipes. Some soup sounds good today..
Thanks for your prayers for Grandpa.
He's still clinging,,barely..

Diane, We haven't gotten any nearby tornado weather yet, but I can sympathize with your long night. We've had them here in Ohio. Congratulations on the award. It is a fitting one. Although I only just started coming here, I really am enjoying getting to know you. You seem to be my biggest rival on the Thesaurus Thursday. I love it! Youe definitions always crack me up. (I like the way your mind works, girlie.)
I am putting you on my prayer list, you and little Emmy. (I'm praying Psalms 20:1-5 for my friends this month.) How old is Emmy?
See ya Thursday.

Hi Diane,

I hope your didn't get any bad weather from the storm last night. It's been thundering and lightening here tonight.

I don't mind leftovers as a rule, but I'm like you in that I don't like cold chicken or warmed over chicken. Somehow it takes on a whole different taste, and I don't like that taste at all!!

Diane, I'm sorry you are having so many health problems. You are blessed to have low cholesterol. I have already prayed a prayer for you that the doctors can get your blood pressure under control and that your upcoming tests does not indicate congestive heart failure or any other serious condition.

Prayers have also been sent up by me for your sweet granddaughter, Emmy.

I didn't post at all today. Somehow I just didn't have anything to talk about. I guess there will be a lot of days like that. I have a friend who blogged for 30 days in a row, and she said that was so hard, but she had been tagged to do that so she gave it her all.

Love and Prayers,
Betty

Good Afternoon Diane,
I have been offline for a couple of days and am trying to catch up with everyone. "PRAISE GOD" we didn't have any Severe Storms. They were close by tho. I seen where it was bad up around Springfield and Branson. There was even 1 fatality here in Arkansas yesterday morning. You know me, I'm always on top of the weather. LOL. I will pray for you Diane. I pray that the doctor's will find out what's causing the fluid to retain. I'm praying it won't be anything bad. It could be that they may have to put you on another different Blood Pressure Pill or something. Sometimes those things happen like that. I'm glad your Cholesterol was good. Your kind of weather has returned huh? LOL. I had been running my A/C up until last night. I had to turn the heat back on. Well, take care my friend and have a great day. I'm also glad Jessica is doing better and I will continue to pray for Miss Emmy also. I know how the teething thing is. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.

Diane: For as long as I lived in "Tornado Alley" in Texas, I was fortunate only to see a few trees uprooted. You are in my prayers to do what you must to get that BP down.

Hi Diane..

Hope you escaped Monday night's storms! I am terrified of tornados...TERRIFIED of them. Probably because I remember being in one back in the 1970s in J'boro. I was very young, but I hear those sirens go off and I flashback to that terror filled night. Thankfully, we have very few tornados here. Now, we just have blizzards and avalanches to worry about. I can live with that though.

Hope you and yours were safe! And thanks for posting your recipes...going to have to go check them out!

Hello Diane... I am praying that you are all safe and sound without storm damage in your area.

I will definitely have you and little Emmy on my prayer list.

A neat idea to keep the awards on a dedicated page. It helps with the loading issues I'm sure.

May your days be filled with lots blessings, love, and laughter.

Hi Diane,

I'll be thinking about you and praying for your health. I hope Emmy's getting better, too. My puppy's been teething and she's awful. LOL.

I know I am new and I find I really enjoy reading your posts. Tou deserve that award and thanks for passing it on to everyone who reads your post. What a great idea to make a new page for your awards.

I heard that a tornado hit Arkansas. Glad it wasn't too close to you. We had a tornado hit southern Wisconsin. Whew. It was about an hour and a half south of us.

Take care and God bless.

Hello dear Diane:-)

I do hope the winds have died down over there by now...we've had some of those winds too but not as severely as you had! My heart really goes out to those affected by the tornadoes.

Congratulations on another deserving award:-) I may not have time to visit daily but be reassured that I always love visiting you!!

I'll be checking out your recipes after I finish this comment! I don't care too much for leftovers either but then it depends on what it is...like stew, I always find it tastes better the next day! lol

My prayers are with you and Miss Emmy...I do hope that all goes well with the tests!! xoxo

Hey Diane.
I hope and pray you do not have CHF. When I went in this last time for my stent they told me I do not have it, PTL, but I do have CHD coronary heart disease and I do swell as well in one leg, so I am being super careful to stay away from salt and reall fatty foods and it is really working with my one swollen leg.
I have a friend now with CHF and it is a tough diagnoses, I will be in def prayer for you. They have really come along way in treatments with CHF thankfully.
Keep us posted. I am praying for you.

Diane, it's not fair to make me so hungry with those wonderful recipes....I'll have to try that bean soup. I love eating cold chicken, yes it's better hot but I can eat it cold.

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your blood preasure. I hope it isn't CHF, my dad had it and it caused him all kinds of grief. Good luck, I'll pray that it is something simple.

Hope Jessica and Miss Emily get better soon.

Dear Diane,
I am so sorry to hear about your blood pressure. I know it can be difficult to get that under control. I will definitely say a prayer for you.

I had the best time looking through your holiday photos. I have never seen a baby that smiles so cute every time the camera is pointed her way. I think you have a little model on your hands.

Wishing good health for all of you.

Diane,

I also retain fluid, so know what you are going through. I had swollen feet while we were on vacation and if they continue to swell will have to have it checked out. I do hope your tests come back negative for CHF.

Sorry to hear that Miss Emmy is still sick. That is a long time for a little one to be ill. I will pray for both you and Emmy.

Love and blessings,
Mary

Good Morning Diane,
I just thought I would drop by and "THANK YOU" for the encouraging words you left on my comments yesterday. I am still online this morning and did a post. I don't know how long, but as long as I'm online, I will continue to blog. I do hope I'm still online tonight so I can read your Sunday Dinner Menu. I so look forward to that each and every Saturday night. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

Father, I pray for Diane right now. You know what she needs and what is required for her to be healthy and fit. I pray for her heart. Reach in there and touch her heart so that it will function perfectly so that she can have a healthy and energetic life. Thank you that by Jesus' stripes, she is healed. Show her what she needs to do to maintain what you have given her...give her a plan. Thank you...In Jesus name...so be it.
