Sunday Dinner, December 16, 2007

I know I say this every week, but it's hard to believe that it's Saturday night already, and time for another Sunday Dinner post. This week has been packed full with busy-ness and activities for me.

I've been doing a lot of baking and candy making in preparation for Christmas and Christmas parties, so that's taken a lot of my time this past week. I have pictures and plan to post them and some recipes as well in the next week.

But for now, I'm going to concentrate on Sunday Dinner and a few other items. Not that I intend to get your hopes up if you came by here thinking I might actually cook Sunday Dinner this week. 'Cause I ain't. Cookin', that is.

Lamar and I went with Jessica and Emmy to Jonesboro Saturday. Lamar treated us to a catfish dinner at my favorite catfish restaurant in Jonesboro then we went to Wal*mart and to the mall.

Can you say, "madhouse", class? Because that's exactly what it was. It was in the mid-30'sF, windy and rainy all day, but that didn't deter all the rude, impatient drivers/shoppers at all. Jessica was Christmas shopping. At Wal*mart I sat in Mc*Donald's and drank coffee while Jessica shopped. At the mall, I sat in Barnes*&*Noble with a cup of coffee and played with Emmy while Jessica shopped. Jessica stood in line for 15 minutes just to get me a cup of plain black coffee at Star*bucks!

It was 6 pm by the time I got home. Lamar, Jessica, Jason and Emmy went to Trumann to see the new Alvin & The Chipmunks movie but I wasn't interested in seeing the movie. I was wiped out and just wanted to get home and relax.

I got into my slouchy gown and watched TV for a couple of hours, then made 8 dozen homemade dog biscuits for a veterinarian friend. I make them every year for her and she gives them as gifts to her veterinarian colleagues and her dog loving friends. She's also Cecil and Ducky's boss. They've worked for her for over 20 years now and she's a friend of the family.

Anyway, all that to say I'm TARD tonight and I'm not going to be cooking for Sunday Dinner. The sisters and I will probably eat out somewhere, but I have no idea where we may end up for the noon meal. If nothing else we can come back here and have a baloney sandwich or scrambled eggs, I guess.

So, what are your plans/menu for Sunday Dinner? Just share your intentions in the comments if you'd like to participate this week.I have some pictures that I want to post, as I said, and some recipes that I'll post on my recipe blog and link to here. Cecil gave me one of my Christmas gifts early because she couldn't stand to wait until Christmas for me to see it. She and her husband, Brian went with Jessica, Jason and Emmy to the mall last Sunday and had Emmy's picture made with Santa Claus. I'll scan the picture and share it with y'all, and also Emmy's school picture from daycare.

This apparently very square and not-with-it-at-all Grandma had no idea that daycares hire a photographer to take pictures of the young'uns just like public schools do. Who'd a-thunk it?Emmy was a very sick little girl on Friday. She apparently picked up an intestinal virus and couldn't keep anything on her stomach for about 24 hours. Then she developed diarrhea. She was beginning to get dehydrated so Jessica and I took her to her Dr.'s office Friday afternoon. Poor Emmy threw up on me twice, once at home before we left and then again at the Dr.'s office. I had to shower and change clothes here before we went to the Dr, then again after I got home.

The Dr. said it was a virus and would just have to run its course. Jessica started giving Emmy pedia*lyte as she could tolerate it, and Saturday morning she took her first formula in almost 24 hours and managed to keep it down. She was much better Saturday although she's still whiny and clingy. She also threw up just as they were leaving to go to the movie Saturday night and they had to turn around and come back here to clean up Emmy and change her clothes. We think she just got strangled then and wasn't really sick. That's what we keep repeating to ourselves like a mantra anyway. Hopefully she's on the mend and will be back to her usual sunny self by Monday and time for daycare again.

I've been making mental and physical hex signs to ward off the tummy bug virus. I hope my hex mojo is up to date and working properly. I would honestly rather have a bleeding wound than have a stomach virus. I know some people say it's better to go ahead and throw up and get it out of your system, but I fight it with all my will, which is considerable, especially when it comes to sudden reviews of my stomach contents. Now that I've discussed vomit and diarrhea ad nauseum, pun intended, I'm going to publish this and rest a bit before I have to go to bed. Did I mention already that I'm TARD?

Y'all have a wonderful Sunday and a joyous Christmas season, dear friends and family. May God bless you with all you need, and enough to share.

I haven't figured out what I'm cooking tomorrow. We had pizza tonight.

And pumpkin pie. Yes I know it's a little early but I wanted to test the oven temps before I ruined the Christmas pies. It works just fine.

Sorry Emma is poorly. I think it's harder on kids because they don't understand what's going on.

Hugs.

You've been a busy lady, haven't you? I still have a little bit of shopping to do, and I keep putting it off. I'll have to go this week. I still haven't put up my Christmas decorations and tree. I'm doing that today.

I've been cooking and filling the freezer for the past 3 days. Dom asked me when we can start eating the food. Kidding, right? It's just there for show! We did have some Cincinnati chili on Thursday night and beef stew last night. Tonight he wants crab cakes. We'll see how "Tard" I am after decorating.

I hope Miss Emmy is finally over whatever bug has attacked her. And hope you don't get it. Not fun.

We got snow all day yesterday so I made a big pot of red beans and rice with some cornbread...it hit the spot on a cold winters day!

Today we are expecting snow with the "wind" you mentioned which they are calling for up to 50 mph winds and say this will be "blizzard" conditions. I've always wondered what a blizzard looked like. I guess I'll see at about noon today...but I do feel like the wind is picking up just a tad just now...

Today I'll make a big pot of spaghetti and stay home!

God bless poor little Emmy, her immune system must need boosting in some way or another. Does she take vitamins? Maybe more vitamin C enriched juice in her bottles??
I pray she is soon over this bug and that none of the rest of ya get it!

I've had a very busy week myself and this week I'm preparing to go to Amanda's for Christmas. I can't wait to see the grands again!!

You take care and if I'm not able to get by before Christmas ya'll have a very Merry Christmas!!

Love & Hugs,
Tammy

Diane before I get into reading or commenting on your post I want to say thank you so very much for rally over to me when you heard of my fall. You are one of my ~quiet angels~ that is there for me with prayers when I need you! I am blessed that we met..remeber a year ago when I would tell tales of our dear ~Patches!~ You became attached to her as did I.

Aww..it's NOT pleasant when babies are sick. When I was in the emergency ward waiting for my assesement there were two little ones in for the same vomiting. They feel so helpless the parents as they watch their child cry out when picked and proded for necessary tests.

I have all my Chritmas shopping completed this year very simple..one small token gift for each but lots of love peace and harmony and food around the Chritmas table!! Blessing to you my quiet angel. hugs hop along NG xo

Hi Diane,

Good for you, taking today off from cooking. I made four dozen breakfast burritos yesterday. Took me four hours so I'd love to take today off but that would be wrong - I cook for Rob on weekends since he's not home during the week.

So I'm thawing out a container of the tacorito sauce I made last week and we're having tacoritos.

After what you've been through recently, I sure hope you don't catch the virus the baby had. I'm with you - stomach virus is just awful. Last time we had it here, it was when Cameron picked up the roto virus and shared it with all of us. I've never thrown up so much in my life and hope I never do again.

I'm making candy today. Rob cleaned me out of cracker jacks. The peanut butter cookies I made Thursday are almost gone. So I'm making him some more cookies and hopefully that will keep him out of the fudge, divinity and jacks I'm making afterwards. It would be nice to have some around here for Christmas. LOL

Hope you have a nice, relaxing day, my sweet friend. xoxoxo

What love! The love of a granddaughter eases the reflux of vomting when vomited on!

I"m glad she is feeling better and pray that you will NOT get sick too. maybe being thrown-up on is a great way to immunize yourself against those nasty viruses. Who knows...could be????!!!!

Have a great Sunday...cookin' or not.....blessings!

Diane,

I wish for you a flu-free Christmas. I agree, a bleeding wound is better. Flu is nasty.

I'm so sorry that Emmy isn't feeling well. The pedo*lyte helps a lot and kids can usually keep that down. I've used it a few times on the grandsons.

As for Sunday dinner. I think crockpot something or other. I want to make it easy. I'm tired of cooking. LOL We can't go out because we are having a nor' easter and the roads are treacherous. Friday was our night for eating out. Hubby brought home Chinese and it was delicious. I also had it for lunch on Saturday. It goes a long way.

Enjoyed catching up with you. Take care and enjoy the Christmas season.

Blessings,
Mary

Hi Diane,
Poor little Emmy! She's certainly had more than her fair share of tummy bugs, etc. I've said a little prayer that she's soon on the mend!
I'm making a chicken tortilla soup today and beginning the job of wrapping. Take good care of yourself.
love and hugs!

I don't know what dinner will be today. Haven't asked the Boss yet what she plans to fix. We have been eating at home a lot more recently. She says we actually eat better food that way and it is a LOOOOT cheaper!

Our Christmas shopping is almost finished. Almost. Of course the things that are left are the hard ones to figure out, otherwise they also would be done by now. Oh well, we will get there and the gifts are not the main reason for Christmas, anyway.

Its always nice to read your week summery and you've been such a good lady. All this Christmas preparation sounds great and quite a lot how it was in my Mom's house when I was young.
What a great Christmas card you've made too - so artistic with the three snowmen!

Wishing you a great week ahead with hugs from Diane and Me :-)

Good Evening Diane,
Wow, I must say you have been busy as a bee. I wish I had it in me to do baking, but I don't. I do hope Miss Emmy is feeling better. It's no fun for sure when they are sick like that. My girls never would drink the Pedialyte stuff. They just pushed it away. I used Apple Juice instead. I watered it down a bit, but they took it. Let me guess here, I bet Lamar took you to Ron's Catfish? LOL. Me and hubby went out to eat Friday night. It was just the two of us again. We ate at Sonic Yesterday for lunch. It was the 2 of us and 3 kids. I haven't done any cooking over the weekend, but am planning on fixing Taco's for tomorrow night. I was going to fix Barb's Tacorita, but my youngest daughter didn't like the way they looked and said she wanted regular Taco's. So hubby said regular Taco's would be fine. I didn't post any this weekend as it has been a busy weekend around here. We had to be out in the cold rain yesterday and it wasn't so fun. Then it got foggy on us late yesterday afternoon coming home. I haven't even been to the Mall since the Christmas Shopping began. I don't plan to either. We were in Wal-Mart's in Blytheville yesterday afternoon and it wasn't too bad. It was alot better than the one in Jonesboro that's for sure. Me and hubby will probably go somewhere this weekend to finish the girl's Christmas up. I'm dreading it too. I hope to post tomorrow. I've got so much to do and so little time to do it all. Well, take care my friend and have a great evening. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.

OH! I hate for that sweet Emmy to be sick again.Maybe she will get some immunity built up before long and things will get better.

Sunday dinner for us was lasagna for Lee and Chicken Penne Mrinara for me from Fazoli's. I didn't cook!

I did go shopping for a little while. Sunday afternoon is one of my times to get away from the house while my son comes to stay with his Dad.

Target and Kroger were FULL of people! People were shopping like it was 6:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve! I was glad I was picking up the last few Christmas items I needed at Target so I wasn't in a tizzy like a couple of people I saw! :-)

Online Shopping is my friend!

You have a great week. Hope that virus bug doesn't bite you!

I think it's that day care center where she's catching all those bugs! And I never heard of "school pictures" from day cares. Wild!

We ate with my mom and dad after we got home from our trip at 6:30 Sunday morning, then huried to church to see Care Bear and Feisty in their program. It was so sweet. My brother was here visiting my parents, and I had lunch time to visit with him. So, I didn't have to cook. In fact, there is still nothing in the house to eat, and I had to improvise for supper tonight.

Maybe tomorrow I'll go to the grocery store!

I haven't been to Wal-Mart this entire season (except in Hawaii), and do not have any desire to go.

Oh Diane, I hope Miss Emmy has recovered, and hasn't shared around that nasty bug.
My Sunday dinner was take-away, whilst travelling home from Bonnie Doon !!
Just dropping by, doing the rounds, to say HI, and to wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year.
Hope to get by more often in the new year ... gosh, time sure does get away from me lately.
Take care, dear friend, and huge hugs to you and yours ... Meow xxx

Good Morning Diane,
Just thought I would drop by and see how things are going for you. I hope that Miss Emmy is doing better today. I hope you are feeling better as well. When you have time, stop by. I have a "Bodacious Award" waiting for you. It is a cold morning. There was a small frost this morning when I took hubby to his truck. Well, take care my friend and have a great Tuesday. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.
