Tuesday Stuff

My post titles are getting more scintillating by the moment, ain't they?

Lamar and I went with our friends yesterday to eat then for a drive into the Ozark Mountains to sight see and look at the Fall foliage. We went first to Jonesboro to eat at a local catfish buffet. It was very good and I had the fried catfish fillets, fried breaded shrimp and corn nuggets. Everything was great and on Mondays the lunch buffet is only $5.65 plus your drink, and if you get water there's no extra charge for your drink.

After our lunch we drove west toward Hardy, Arkansas but took a different route than we usually do, and I'm so glad we did! We drove toward Williford, Arkansas and saw some of the best Fall foliage I've ever seen. It was cloudy and rainy all day, with a few glimpses of sunshine here and there. I tried to take some pictures to share but it was so cloudy that the pictures were too dark.

I'm sharing three of my pictures to prove that we did indeed take that drive I've mentioned several times but ended up being postponed until Monday. It was misty and cloudy most of the day but even the mist was beautiful in the valleys with the bright colors of the foliage on the mountains as a backdrop. It was gorgeous to view with the naked eye but my camera just couldn't do justice to the subtle colors and dark natural light.

Sad to say, these three were the best of the lot.Last year I had to opportunity to take some pretty good Autumn foliage pictures and I'm going to include this slide show from last November. I hope you enjoy them, especially those of you who have started reading my blog in the meantime and didn't see the slide show last Fall.

Recently I was contacted by a publisher about doing a book review on my blog. I've been contacted before about doing this, and agreed to have the book(s) sent to me with mixed results. I have a few more books that I'm reading and mulling over my thoughts and opinions about, but several of the publishers have never gotten the books to me.

But the particular publisher of the book I'm going to review today was as good as its word, and the book arrived promptly and in mint condition.

This book is a children's book and usually I wouldn't have much interest in a children's book since my baby is now 20 years old, but with the birth of my first grandbaby, Princess Emmy, May 8, 2007, this piqued my interest.

Beautifully illustrated and simply but profoundly worded, this book tells the story of a parent's love for a child, and then from the standpoint of the child for a parent. It can even be read by grandparents or other loving adults with almost any relationship with a child, and the book is written in a clever flip style so that when you finish reading the adult's viewpoint, you simply turn the book over and read the child's viewpoint.

I liked this book and hope it becomes a favorite of Emmy's to read with her Mom and Dad and hopefully, Grandma and Grandpa. I plan to wrap this book for Miss Emmy's first Christmas.

You can click on the book pictured above for a link to Amazon if you want to check out pricing and availability, and you can CLICK HERE to read more about the author and illustrator of this book. For those of you following the riveting story of whether I finally got my coffeemaker or not, I'm thrilled to report that I have indeed received my new coffeemaker and so far, I'm very pleased with it. My new office chair, Prince Charming, may even be displaced by my new suitor, Sir Bunn the CoffeeMaker. Right now they're both courting me as I sit here in Prince Charming's lap drinking coffee from Sir Bunn's thermal carafe.

I know it's not polite or delicate to speak of it, but I'm enjoying this particular *three*some, LOL! ;o)I just talked to Jason and he says that Emmy is feeling much better, praise the Lord! It's about time. Lamar and I hope to see Jessica, Jason and Emmy Thursday for supper at their house this Thursday night. Lamar was on his way to Texas weekend before last and missed the cookout at Jessica and Jason's place so Jessica is cooking supper for us Thursday night. I'm still fighting my sinus infection/bronchitis but I feel a little better over all. My throat isn't as sore as it was and I'm not coughing quite as much, although I still sound more like John*Wayne than his sister. I started taking 5oo mg. of cepha*lexin twice a day and I think it's beginning to clear up the infection. I haven't had any fever and I don't really think I'm contagious, but I want to be feeling much better by Thursday when I see Emmy and the kids. I sure don't want to share my germs with them just when they're all feeling better.Supper tonight is in the works. I have a whole chicken thawing that I'm going to cut up, flour and fry, Southern Style, and then I'll make cream gravy from the drippings and crumbs. I also have some speckled butter beans simmering and some mixed greens that will round out the meal. If I felt a little better I'd make some homemade buttermilk biscuits to go with the gravy, but Lamar will have to make do with light bread this time. I think he'll manage to muddle through with the fried chicken, butter beans, cream gravy and greens. Poor feller. ;o)

Gotta go cook supper, so I'll wish everyone a great mid-November week.

If you lived about five hours closer, I'd be popping in for supper tonight. MY WORD that's my favorite meal. And if you were having fried okra, I just might jump in the car right now. :-)

I'm glad to hear that everyone is finally feeling better. I love the pictures of the fall colors. We just took a ride today and I noticed how pretty the trees around here look.

Your dinner sounds gooood! Dom and I each had a Weight Watcher meal - not quite the same thing!

Have fun with the kids on Thursday.

you crack me up!
my Dad's meal for his B-Day Sunday was fried chicken, creamed corn, field peas, salad, mashed potatoes and gravy and butter-buiscits...oh and an apple torte for dessert. It was a memory of my Grandma's sunday dinners. That creamed corn is my favorite memory of her I think...well, along with her choc chip cookies. sigh...I'm hungry!

Good Morning Diane,
Well, I'm glad you got that new coffee maker. I'm glad you are feeling better. That stuff just takes a while and has to wear its course out. I woke up Monday morning feeling like my nose is trying to stop up again. That slide show that you did from last Fall is just beautiful. Were those pictures taken here in Arkansas? I'm glad you finally got to go on your trip and see some more foliage. Those pictures are pretty also. They say it's suppose to rain again today and possibly be severe. I don't mind the rain, I just don't like it being severe. Your supper sounds yummy. You got any leftover's this mornin'? LOL. I love me some fried chicken. And, ain't nothin better than takin some fried chicken on a picnic and eatin it cold. Now that is some good eatin there. We had leftover Hobo Stew last night. We had another ballgame last night which I will talk about when I post later on. I do hope you have a good day. I know you are looking forward to having dinner with Jason, Jessica, and Ms. Emmy. Take care my friend and God Bless You.

Hugs,
Karen H.

Ditto what Boo Mama said about fried okra.

I, personally, think your titles are VERY exciting, Diane. LOL

I'm pretty convinced I'm officially going to bring up the rear on that book review. It's been sitting in my living room for three weeks now. I'm waiting for the "perfect" moment to post my review. LOL Tony sent me two copies of it for some reason, so I'm giving one to each of my girls. It's the sweetest book, isn't it?

Glad the baby is feeling better. Hope you do too, and soon!

Hi Dianne. Your supper made my tummy growl. I haven't made fried chicken and cream gravy in ages. It's one of my favorites.

I'm so glad to hear that Emmy is feeling better. And yourare right, "it's about time." That poor litle tyke has sure had a rough time of it. I would imagine her mommy will be scared stiff to get her next shots, bless her heart.

I am wondering where you found your new chair? I need to get a new one too and don't have a clue where to look.I need good back support because of the osteoporosis, etc.

I tried leaving you a comment yesterday...don't know if it was blogger or me, but since blogger can't say it wasn't "his" fault I blame blogger!

Somedays you can take all bad pictures, and others you can't take a bad one. The pictures you took last year are beautiful...and supper sounded awesome.

Thanks for looking at my blog, now someone other than my mom has looked at my blog!!

I'm glad things are looking up down there in Arkansas in the health department. And that your chair and coffee maker are making you happy!

I think I would just love that book.

Came over here from Dawn's blog. When I noticed your name is Lena, I just had to check it out! My Ladybug's middle name is Lena, after her grandma.

So glad I came! The book sounds precious and the supper scrumptious!

I didnt realize Arkansas had such beautiful fall display - ours was spectacular too, not so lovely now that it's wet and all over the lawn....maybe it'll snow and just cover it up - out of sight, out of mind!

Ya know, Tennessee is not really that far from Arkansas. I think I'm coming for supper some time real soon! I get hungry just reading what you cook1 YUMMY!

Love the pictures of the fall foliage. I put some up tonight also--It's funny how just all of a sudden the trees are putting on a show. Beautiful! The only thing wrong with fall is winter comes right after it. I am not a fan of winter--Brrr!

So glad to see that your sinus infection has not stopped you from doing some really fun things.....and it has not affected (infected????) your great sense of humor! Delightful!

The photos are great! Love 'em!

What a fun book to review. Yes, that Emmy is gonna find it hard to find someone who doesn't "love her more!"

I am thinking that to get good photos of leaves and other fall color, we really need to stop the vehicle and get out. It was disappointing to me to see how many I had to delete just because there was too much blurring from the motion of the vehicle. But, that is one of the neat things about taking digital photos. You can find out if they are worth keeping without spending any money to develop & print them!

I love that threesome you spoke of!! If you are a coffee lover then the Bunn is the way to go!!

So glad Emmy is feeling better!

Diane,

I'm on my way to your house and should arrive just in time for Sunday dinner. LOL

Loved the slide show and that book is awesome. I review children's books for publishers and have dozens of them sitting here in my office/den. I give them to my grandsons, to my great-nephew and to the Christmas basket program. I may even review a few on my blog.

Thanks so much for sharing. I love visiting with you.

Blessings for a great weekend.
