Tuesday With The Sisters & Jessica & Emmy

I have several pictures to post from my Tuesday with Cecil, Sue, Jessica and Emmy. I'm not going to caption each one individually this time since it's pretty obvious what's going on in each one.

Cecil called me Tuesday morning and asked how I felt about grilling burgers and hot dogs for dinner today. I told her it sounded like a great idea to me, especially since she was buying. I just had to be chief griller.

I already knew that Jessica and Emmy were supposed to be here for the day and I was just a bit excited over that. I hadn't seen them since Friday and I was having some withdrawals.

I make sure I let Jessica know I'm just as happy to see her and Jason as I am to see Emmy. Jessica was and is my baby and I get lonesome to see her when it's been several days since I spent time with her.

Back to the grilling. Cecil made 12 burgers and I grilled those on my gas grill. It's already summertime here, no matter what the calendar may say about it. It's been in the high 80's and low 90's every day for the last week or so. My grill is on my back porch, which is code for a tiny concrete slab with a 4 foot overhang for shade. It was hot out there today, plus the fat from the burgers kept making the grill flare up and that just added to the heat.

I grilled one package of 8 hotdogs to go with the burgers. You might be wondering why we needed so many burgers and hotdogs for only 4 people. And the answer is NOT that we are greedy pigs. Although I'll admit that there are times when it might look that way to the casual observer.

No, Cecil wanted to take the leftovers home for other meals. She and her hubby apparently like to warm up the grilled burgers and dogs for another meal or snack.

The concept of intentionally planning for leftovers is utterly foreign to me. With the exception of chili and soup and maybe one or two more things, I despise leftovers. For one thing, I like a lot of variety and don't like to have most things two meals in a row or even the same thing in the same week. But mainly I honestly don't like what reheating food does to the flavor and texture of the food.

Now if you like leftovers and like to plan for
easy quick meals by utilizing leftovers, more power to you. But it's not for me. I try to cook only what will be consumed at one meal, although Lamar does like some things cold or reheated so I cook a little extra fried potatoes or whatever so he can have them at a later meal or for a snack.

Anyhow, I digressed all over the place.

Miss Emmy is doing well and I can tell she's gained weight and is filling out. She's
still long and skinny though, which you can tell by some of the pictures. I had Jessica take some pics so you can see Emmy all stretched out and see her long legs. Jessica is doing great. She's feeling much better and is losing her baby weight, fitting into some of her pre-baby clothes and can almost wear her wedding rings again. Of course she's not losing the weight quick enough to suit her, but since she's not nursing Emmy anymore she can be more conservative about what she eats and drinks.

We had a good lunch and just lazed around and had a good time being together. Jessica worked on her scrapbook, adding pages for Emmy's birth and Jason's
birthday and graduation, among others. Cecil and Sue and I took turns holding Emmy, but she slept quite a bit today. She's gradually becoming more alert when she's awake and staying awake longer at a time.

Lamar made it safely to Dallas to visit his brother and Dad. I emailed him the link to the blog so he can see the pictures. He will be there for a week and should be home on June 4th or 5th. I'll have to email him some Emmy pictures so he can get a fix.

I just realized when I was adding pictures to this post that somehow I didn't get a single picture of Sue today. I assure you she was here and Cecil, Jessica and I all took pictures with my digital camera but none of us happened to take any of Sue, with or without Emmy. Sorry, Sue.

I do think that picture of Cecil and Jessica with their heads together turned out pretty good, and I like the closeup of sleeping Emmy, if you disregard the crumpled napkin and the salt shaker behind her on the table. Remnants of our lunch.

I like the picture Cecil took of Emmy's hand. That's Cecil's hand with the pretty nails and Emmy's hand is resting on hers. Mine is not so pretty and Emmy's right hand is on my fingers.

Well, that was our day. I hope you all had a pleasant Tuesday after Memorial Day. I still need to change the linens on my bed so I'm going to hang this up for the night.

I say...good for you galfriend! I've made it a point with my daughter too...if I send the kiddo's gifts I include her too...many's the time I felt left out when my kids were young and I don't want her to feel that way at any time!!

As for the massive grilling of hamburgers and hotdogs...I've always felt like that was the way to go...I think an extra day enhances their flavor along with chili and spaghetti sauces or anything with tomato sauce in it...to me it just tastes better left over...

And I do believe you have a future piano player...look at those long fingers...just right for piano playin'!

I so enjoy seeing the pictures of little Emmy. This blog is going to be such a wonderful reminder to you of when she was so amazingly tiny and helpless.
Your cookout sounds good. I must admit I cook extra to have on busy nights (and we have lots of those)
love and ((hugs))

I'm glad you cleared that up about the hands. I wondered why she only had those nails on one hand. LOL

You're right - she's a long baby. Her little legs are precious. Heck. The whole package is gorgeous.

You have no idea how much this makes me want another grandbaby,Diane. Cameron completely owns my heart but boy, there's lots of room in there for another baby. I already miss this stage.

It sounds like you all had a great day just being together and enjoying a great lunch and that baby.

Jessica looks great!

There is nothing in the world sweeter than a new baby. NOTHING.Those fingers, the skin, the little eyes (open or closed), the sweet smell. Just the sweetest.

Makes me almost want another grandchild--Not that it will do me any good to wish. I believe we are finished with babies at this Grandmama's house--But I love 'em the age they are now, too.

I am a left over kind of girl, and love to have something to send to work with DC for lunch. But he didn't used to like them either - I had to retrain his brain on that issue!

Such a cute baby girl and proud grandma, mommy, and aunties.

Thanks for stopping by our last chapter - what a journey! I always love your comments.

Emmy is so cute. I just love how innocent babies look when they are sleeping. Actually they 'are' innocent and even look so when awake but there's just something about a sleeping baby!
I'm glad you had such a nice day with your family.
I'm not too hot on left overs either, except for soup and stews, which seem to get better each day, especially with a huge slab of homemade bread and butter. YUM!

What a great way to spend the day - just hanging out with all your favorite girls.
We don't do well with leftovers either Diane. I carefully package them and put them in the frig - and then throw them all away when neither of us feels like eating them!!
I really enjoyed all the sweet pictures. That baby is just too cute.

Diane, I just love how you and your family “love” each other. What a blessing you must be to each other. I always wanted a big family after being an only child.

What a beautiful baby she is and all the pictures of her are wonderful.

Have a terrific Thursday.

Love and Hugs, Lyndy

It's been hot here too! I try to do outdoor chores either early or late to avoid the heat of the day. We need rain badly too!

Keep cool!!
