Spring Photos

Thought I'd post a few pics I took a few hours ago. Some of my blog friends have bemoaned the fact that they are still in the frigid grip of winter, especially my Canadian and Northern U.S. friends, and mentioned that they are longing for Spring to arrive in their part of the world. The grape hyacynths are so bright and cheerful, and most people have so many they spread everywhere. I have the same 3 tiny clumps, and they never seem to multiply at all. Hmph. Well. The red foliage might surprise some because it is actually new growth on my rose bush. I thought it just glowed in the noonday sun. I still have a lot to learn about my digital camera, and one of the most difficult things for me is judging the focus. These two shots were just pure dumb luck. Amateur attempts for most other people, but not bad for me at all, I thought. You should see the rejects!! NOT. LOL. ;)

I downloaded some pics from some of the free sites to use on here from time to time. I didn't take the time to explore too much this morning, as I was surfing in the wee hours as it was, but I will go back and have a more thorough look at things soon. I like to post photos every time if possible, although I haven't been able to do that recently. Now that I have my *Scanner* working, I will be posting some family snapshots and old pics on here, hopefully.

My comments lately have been really rocking!! Yay, Everyone!! Thanks to family and to my regular visitors, and a special *Kudos Everyone* to my new friends who are visiting and commenting for keeping things hopping. ;)
Did I use enough "ings" for everyone in that last sentence? LOL :)

If nothing preempts it, and weather permitting, Jessica, AKA "Irma", "Kahildabob", and several other aliases, and I are going fishing. I can hardly wait, and I was pleasantly surprised when she was agreeable, even, I might go so far as to say, Enthusiastic, to my suggestion that we go drown some worms. This is her Spring Break, and she has had other, more important plans for the earlier part of the week. I thought she might shoot that idea down in flames, but she actally seemed to be looking forward to the outing. I know I am, not just because I get to go fishing, but because I can spend a little one-on-one time with her. I know those times will be getting rarer and far between as the time hurtles on toward her high school graduation, summer break, and then on to college. I will savor our time together...............................Smile.............. :) (wipes away a tear..........or several)

This is Wednesday night, and that means prayer meeting and Bible Study tonight. I have chicken, along with green bean casserole baking in the oven, and I will fix some instantaneous potatoes, as Mama called them. :)
Supper is imminent, and I will be leaving for church at 5:30 pm or so. I will post this now, and I may have some more grist for the blogger mill later, who knows.

Hope everyone is having a great Wednesday/Thursday!! :)

Very nice photos. Yes, they do look professional too. I'm impressed. As you know, we have weather very similar down here in DFW. The one thing we don't have is beautiful foliage. I can take you some nice pictures of the morning dew gently glistening over the potholes in the cement, though. :-) Oh, Diane, remember my Pat/Big Mike/Glasses comment in the other post? I have it up if you want to have a look later. It's frightening. Don't say I didn't warn you. :-)

Mike,
I ain't skeered!! I just came from your blog, and I did see the "Pat" pic. I have to admit you bear an uncanny resemblance to him/her, LOL.

As for the pics of the potholes, I have seen photographers who can even make them look interesting. :)

And re: Big Mike, I am seeing much LESS of you these days, :) Lookin' good!! If it's any of my business, diet or surgery? I need to do one or the other, my friend.

Hi Diane. Glad I didn't scare ya. :-) It scares me everytime I look at it. I just know it's my glasses. :-) As far as the weight loss goes, I lost the first 100 lbs by: 1. Changing the way and the things I eat. I call it changing instead of dieting, because it has to be a permanant change. At least for me. I stopped the second helpings, cut down on the high fat content foods, and especially ate a lot of boneless skinless chicken and non fried fish. Pepsi was and still is my only crutch. Even with that, I was able to cut back, though. Used to drink 7 cans a day. Down to 3 now. 2. I worked out religiously on a treadmill. 30-45 minutes a day...everyday. Since losing the 100 lbs, I have stopped the treadmill, because my job became an outdoor, very physical job, and I was still able to keep the weight off. Finally, the last 20 lbs or so have come off from just plain stress. A lot of that in my life. :-( I am losing more and more each day it seems. I traded in my work pants 3 weeks ago for a 2 inch smaller waist size. Even those, now, are getting too big.

My advice then? Get stressed. Get really stressed. It's the fastest way I have lost the weight so far. :-) Seriously, though, just cutting back on not only what you eat but how much you eat can go a long way. And try to condition your thinking that it is a permanant change in eating habits, not just a temporary diet. I hope that helps you. I still have another 20 lbs. at least that I want to lose. Wish me luck!! And good luck to you.

Mike,
Thanks for answering my question. I have bad (need knee replacement but the Doc says I am too young, and no insurance at the moment) arthritic knees, so I can't walk at all. I would have to cut back, and I have in the past. I lost about 30 lbs. several years ago, but gained that back and more when I backslid. I just need to get motivated again, and it may be soon. Don't know, so don't hold me to it right now. :)

Hi Diane,
Beautiful pics , you did a really nice job on them ,looks like it is about as close as I am going to get to spring this year. we have been slammed with a few snow storms ,the last couple days . hopefully the last for the year! My poor flowers are waiting for the two miutes of spring we get to poke their little heads out LOL.

Nice you going fising with your girl, moments for great memeories , she will soon spread her wings , no need to cry/shed a tear , if you have armed her with the knowledge ,love and strength she needs in the world , then you've done a good job and she will always be with you and come back to you , missing them is impossible to escape , no matter how they are , and that goes both ways. can ya tell one of mine just left the nest! LOl bittersweet,
enjoy the fishing.:)

Greeneyes,
Thanks so much for the kind words about the pics. Maybe your flowers will get to see the light of day very soon. :)

And thank you for your words of comfort and encouragement, too. It helps to hear from someone who has gone through it. Hope you are doing well with it. :)

Diane, I know how painful it must be for you to get around with the knees. I had knee surgery on my left knee due to a work injury, so I went through a bout with that. The key to any exercise, though, is to get the heart rate up and keep it up for at least, oh, 15 to 20 minutes. I am no health trainer, but I am sure there are ways to do that outside of walking. Maybe some kind of arm weight lifting thing? I'm not too sure.
It took me years to get motivated. I think the turning point came when the only clothes I could find were in the Big and Tall store. Not much of a selection for men, and a bit more expensive. If you ever need motivation, advice, or just have a question, you know you can always find Mikey by his bowl of cereal. :-)

Nashe,
They are called grape hyacynths, and I think they are so bright and colorful.
So.................spring-y!! :)
