I have no idea what I'm doing for Sunday Dinner this week, as per the usual as of late.<br /><br />Lamar has plans to come home directly after church and eat a sandwich while watching his football games, but I have no idea what my sisters or Jessica, Jason and Emmy are doing for Sunday Dinner. We'll just wing it and decide after church tomorrow afternoon what to do, but more than likely we'll end up eating out somewhere.<br /><br />For those who may be experiencing withdrawals from not hearing about my menus for so long, for our Saturday Supper this week I fried some pork steaks, fixed some fried potatoes and made Lamar some cream gravy. Maybe not the healthiest of meals, but it sure was good.<br /><br />On Friday night I grilled some country style pork ribs and yellow squash for our supper, and earlier in the week I made a big pot of homemade cabbage rolls and cooked some jasmine rice to serve with them.<br /><br />For those of you who've asked about my health and my test results, I'm feeling much better lately, but my tests were inconclusive. They still don't know what's up with the pressure and burning in my neck. They say there are no signs of major blockages or tumors, which is good, but that doesn't explain why I'm still having symptoms. It is much less frequent than it was, so I'm thankful for that.<br /><br />While Lamar and I were talking about divorce and dealing with a lot of emotional turmoil, I went through a period of depression. I've had mild episodes of depression in the past but took no medications and it passed relatively quickly and with no treatment.<br /><br />This time I knew I needed some help, so I told my doctor how I was feeling, and she prescribed a very mild antidepressant. I dutifully took a pill each day for 3 days, and by the third day I knew I was in trouble.<br /><br />For whatever reason, the medication I took made me much worse than I was before I took the meds. I've never felt so bad in my entire life. I was beyond miserable, and I had no interest in anything. I couldn't concentrate to read or do anything on my computer, television had no appeal at all, and I had no interest in food or anything else. Even breathing seemed like an effort.<br /><br />I knew it was the meds making me feel that way, so after the third day I quit taking them and immediately started improving. If I'd taken them much longer I think I'd have been suicidal. I realize that some people need meds to get better, but that particular one is obviously not a good one for me.<br /><br />Since Lamar and I made the decision to work on mending our marriage, I've feel better every day. I still have a bad day here and there, but overall I'm pleased to report that I'm doing much better both physically and emotionally.<br /><br />One lingering after effect of the depression seems to be limited concentration. I haven't been posting on Facebook or here on my blog, and I haven't been able to read much or do much of anything that involves using more than 2 brain cells at a time.<br /><br />I won't make any promises I may not be able to keep, but I'll try to post more frequently here and on Facebook. I'm very thankful and humbled by all the love and prayers shown to me while I've been going through my illness and rocky time in my marriage.<br /><br />Your comments here and on Facebook and your emails and messages have touched me more than you'll ever know. There's no way I can respond to each communication, but I do appreciate each one.<br /><br />Time to get this published and try to get a little sleep. I hope everyone has a blessed Lord's Day. May God meet all your needs and may you have enough to share, dear family and friends.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5r9C19XZkLlBj0kYVGtaw_BLHne3QpedqesMYDoH6LqkJ-AfxtSvUscgHNHkhB4yJFFBPYZBOloujpMZYJzlFRUqgzPTm0t0a57hjstrgw11gtfsokjws2aUxfh3bkVJUyLhy/s1600/SummerSig4.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 157px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5r9C19XZkLlBj0kYVGtaw_BLHne3QpedqesMYDoH6LqkJ-AfxtSvUscgHNHkhB4yJFFBPYZBOloujpMZYJzlFRUqgzPTm0t0a57hjstrgw11gtfsokjws2aUxfh3bkVJUyLhy/s200/SummerSig4.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5528979867901340754" border="0" /></a>Diane@Diane's Placehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10919687116633720697noreply@blogger.com46tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21736979.post-81094351523341086822010-09-12T01:58:00.003-05:002010-09-12T02:34:08.658-05:00Sunday Dinner, September 12, 2010<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC2L_AM56EyrtCxkKNRv5J_UksAUZricLpuCGurjd6Jvj0kz5AwJ9AvsUtjmgHZSQyH0UidFi93Ogb9WKqs5PKvF-JjSFx6vQ9sFgrD6ng73LuJmNqO3Ngln7_TxEwXegdsZOd/s1600/Sunday+Dinner20a.jpg"><img style="float: left; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; cursor: pointer; width: 131px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC2L_AM56EyrtCxkKNRv5J_UksAUZricLpuCGurjd6Jvj0kz5AwJ9AvsUtjmgHZSQyH0UidFi93Ogb9WKqs5PKvF-JjSFx6vQ9sFgrD6ng73LuJmNqO3Ngln7_TxEwXegdsZOd/s200/Sunday+Dinner20a.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5515918401234669154" border="0" /></a>I feel like a fraud still calling this my Sunday Dinner post when I'm so rarely cooking these days, but here goes.<br /><br />Once again, I'm not cooking this week and I don't know where I'll be eating. If you'd like to share your Sunday Dinner plans this week, feel free to do so in the comments.<br /><br />Thank you for all your comments, messages, emails and cards. I've read and appreciate each one, and I'm touched by your love and concern for me.<br /><br />My earlier medical tests were all inconclusive, and I had another CT scan this past Tuesday on my neck. I go back to my doctor this coming Tuesday to find out the results and we'll go from there.<br /><br />Overall I'm feeling much better health wise and emotionally. I was prescribed an antidepressant that made me much worse, so I stopped taking it after 4 days and am in a much better frame of mind now.<br /><br />Also, Lamar and I have decided to try again with our relationship and our marriage. We can always separate and divorce later if this doesn't work out, but we want to make this work if we can at all. On October 25th we'll have been married for 25 years, and that's a long time to walk away from.<br /><br />I'm sorry to leave everyone hanging but I've needed this time away to gather my thoughts and get myself back together emotionally. The last couple of months have been some of the hardest times I've ever been through and though it's better now in many ways, Lamar and I still have a lot to work through.<br /><br />Hopefully I'll continue to improve emotionally and can keep up my Sunday Dinner posts from now on.<br /><br />And now I'll wish everyone one a blessed Lord's Day, and my prayer for everyone is that God will bless you with all you need and enough to share.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjNWzesa3-ZTY4lat1dFq2ThnazcFLGJhOWFjugkQmB_dPWIi3hZXFB291igyDPlKOmJFU8NAmNnWcmSvDfAQ5znQDrXYZnvwoV4FeTHBXXVq9lNfvI7_nPzwkSmKK5h0Uxyru/s1600/SpringSig1150.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 150px; height: 75px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjNWzesa3-ZTY4lat1dFq2ThnazcFLGJhOWFjugkQmB_dPWIi3hZXFB291igyDPlKOmJFU8NAmNnWcmSvDfAQ5znQDrXYZnvwoV4FeTHBXXVq9lNfvI7_nPzwkSmKK5h0Uxyru/s200/SpringSig1150.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5515923413536625506" border="0" /></a>Diane@Diane's Placehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10919687116633720697noreply@blogger.com32tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21736979.post-91924070829487337862010-08-29T06:15:00.003-05:002010-08-29T06:28:46.602-05:00Sunday Dinner, August 29, 2010<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYJ5Ae9OsnzHdSt5j6__KB-hzqnpre_tsF-NUbNw_UiOeui3jdUVUzlo89O6IWAL9ZToIuwyp4hOpFfYqFVl7IfOV-MlXl1jsZHpdnAou8DqrcG_PVntlgVcdqAv9GLAuwzU9k/s1600/Sunday+Dinner12.jpg"><img style="float: left; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; cursor: pointer; width: 154px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYJ5Ae9OsnzHdSt5j6__KB-hzqnpre_tsF-NUbNw_UiOeui3jdUVUzlo89O6IWAL9ZToIuwyp4hOpFfYqFVl7IfOV-MlXl1jsZHpdnAou8DqrcG_PVntlgVcdqAv9GLAuwzU9k/s200/Sunday+Dinner12.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5510790312197643394" border="0" /></a>Just stopping by to let everyone know I'm doing okay, but just not in the best frame of mind right now to blog about much.<br /><br />I'm not cooking Sunday Dinner this week and have no idea where I'll be eating.<br /><br />For those of you who've messaged and emailed me, I thank you for your love and support. I suppose so, so I'll get right down to it.<br /><br />As has been my habit a lot here lately, I'm not cooking Sunday Dinner this week. There are just too many unknowns as far as who might be here and how I might feel, so I'm gonna give it a pass this week. We will more than likely end up eating out somewhere, but it's also possible we may end up back at my place to eat a sandwich.<br /><br />For those of you who'd like to participate this week, just mention your plans/menu in the comments.<br /><br />I still don't have any test results yet, even after making another trip to my doctor's office to try to get them in person. I did however manage to get the test results faxed from the hospital to my doctor's office, so they should be able to tell me something Monday morning when I go for a follow up appointment with my regular doctor.<br /><br />Let's hope anyway, or you may be hearing a small explosion from my general vicinity. This has passed ridiculous now and edged over into unacceptable. It was 2 weeks this past Thursday since I had the tests, and still no results. Ugh.<br /><br />I'm feeling better overall, but still have some days better than others, and I still tire easily. I still have pressure in my neck at times, but that seems to be better and less frequent than before as well.<br /><br />I'm sure the test results will determine where I go from here as far as any treatment or new drugs needed, if any.<br /><br />On another note, I mentioned last week that I had more news to share, although I don't really look forward to sharing this particular bit of news.<br /><br />To put it plainly, Lamar and I will be getting divorced as soon as we can get things in motion.<br /><br />This has been a hard decision on both our parts, but we are both in agreement that it's the best thing for us. We are not fighting or arguing over the division of any of our things, we just want to make this as easy as we can for both of us.<br /><br />Please don't think that I'm only giving you all the run around and I'm secretly hiding my suffering, because that's truly not the way things are for me. While this has been a hard decision for both of us, I'm truly at peace with my decision.<br /><br />Lamar and I are still living in the same apartment as we look for a new place for Lamar to live, hopefully still in the same neighborhood, so that he can still be near Jessica and her family, and also still be near me and all his lifelong friends and neighbors.<br /><br />Even though we'll no longer be married, Lamar and I have been together for over 25 years and will remain friends and more than likely still spend a lot of time together, just as friends instead of husband and wife, and we still share family and friends together.<br /><br />My life will be changing in the coming weeks, and I am okay with that, I even look forward to helping Lamar get settled into a new place while I remain here in this apartment. Lots of changes coming in the near future, and I'll deal with it as it comes to me.<br /><br />I need to get this published and get some sleep, so I'll wish everyone a blessed Lord's Day. May God meet all your needs and may you have enough to share, dear family and friends.<br /><br />With much love,<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyPpkL9MkPdL8MizvQsbP6cAYyALIbp3Fhc7xnOfLHjoCQ5Rly9fV7hjsBJZQZ_jKp2Icmp6Vn6NCMeB-U1d42-34hS0f1CFYBbPO48MfkiPLwpcccofXaJouRi66hEhRgqVu7/s1600/SummerSig2.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 164px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyPpkL9MkPdL8MizvQsbP6cAYyALIbp3Fhc7xnOfLHjoCQ5Rly9fV7hjsBJZQZ_jKp2Icmp6Vn6NCMeB-U1d42-34hS0f1CFYBbPO48MfkiPLwpcccofXaJouRi66hEhRgqVu7/s200/SummerSig2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5508171906105574610" border="0" /></a>Diane@Diane's Placehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10919687116633720697noreply@blogger.com23tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21736979.post-35754183251699243242010-08-15T05:54:00.004-05:002010-08-15T06:26:32.428-05:00Sunday Dinner, August 15, 2010<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTOsjLWvi4EEQhnNFHJQS-1Qq3NcFH7kdpQmAGyphwJJy-h35w5iSLuTSlYa2Qc2YSDuK5edvrgQ82CeiNO9vowJ-Qmg6HmBpGMJhjCQ3Sqrg8BTF8pnCMwV89qyZtuL-HEWgL/s1600/Sunday+Dinner20a.jpg"><img style="float: left; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; cursor: pointer; width: 131px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTOsjLWvi4EEQhnNFHJQS-1Qq3NcFH7kdpQmAGyphwJJy-h35w5iSLuTSlYa2Qc2YSDuK5edvrgQ82CeiNO9vowJ-Qmg6HmBpGMJhjCQ3Sqrg8BTF8pnCMwV89qyZtuL-HEWgL/s200/Sunday+Dinner20a.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5505589167819643474" border="0" /></a>Sunday again, hard to believe a week has passed since my last post, but it's true.<br /><br />I'm gradually getting better, but still tire quickly when I try to do much. I've cooked a couple of simple meals this past week, and on Friday night I made homemade cabbage rolls for supper, which were really good. I even broke my own no leftovers rule and we finished them off for our Saturday Supper.<br /><br />I decided that I'm not cooking Sunday Dinner this week. I'm going to church Sunday morning for the first time since I got sick, and I'm not going to feel like coming home and getting dinner on the table after church, I'm sure.<br /><br />So we'll either go out to eat somewhere, or we'll come back here to my place for a sandwich or something along that line. According to how I feel later in the day, I may or may not be going back to church for the evening services, just have to wait and see.<br /><br />What's for Sunday Dinner at your place this week? Share your plans/menu in the comments if you'd like.<br /><br />Still no word on my test results, believe it or not. If I don't hear anything by Monday morning I'm going to call my doctor's office and the hospital both on Monday afternoon. This is getting ridiculous now. It's been 10 days since my tests, they have to have the results by now, surely.<br /><br />In other news. my granddaughter Emmy starts preschool this coming Thursday, which is hard to believe. She's 3 years old now, not a toddler anymore but a little girl. For the next 14 years she'll be in school, and then possibly more years of college. Hard to believe these school days have already arrived. It seems like only yesterday that she was born.<br /><br />There are a few more bits of news that I'm not at liberty to share just yet, but over the coming weeks I'll share as I can.<br /><br />For now, I'm TARD and need to get this posted, so I'll wish everyone a blessed Lord's Day. May God meet all your needs, and may you have enough to share, dear family and friends.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6p_KGGrgF3zCRY_-237thqpupxBgvhjb8C8DVe_Ns3FRJxSioihG3mCyf7J8iLGWQfiAMgt2fkZnhtoTWMr83OMrWSFcCaGZZ9yUAD3L0TXdJyLWYnnyj-guRIMgN-gDZXsZU/s1600/SummerSig5.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6p_KGGrgF3zCRY_-237thqpupxBgvhjb8C8DVe_Ns3FRJxSioihG3mCyf7J8iLGWQfiAMgt2fkZnhtoTWMr83OMrWSFcCaGZZ9yUAD3L0TXdJyLWYnnyj-guRIMgN-gDZXsZU/s200/SummerSig5.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5505595626966332226" border="0" /></a>Diane@Diane's Placehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10919687116633720697noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21736979.post-27780747881567195032010-08-07T16:57:00.003-05:002010-08-07T17:46:33.621-05:00Sunday Dinner, August 8, 2010<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb8jW416vBMJp54n0rFUosc_4bFyehyK_Zi6ewVV-eBruj_VULNPgTjyFupWVEf1KBLzHvTb1ROhfczWTgFpT2USRukQ2VET1BN6uY7UOsSiXXhlQaxS_iF2DdthlySXJuoaoF/s1600/Sunday+Dinner18a.jpg"><img style="float: left; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb8jW416vBMJp54n0rFUosc_4bFyehyK_Zi6ewVV-eBruj_VULNPgTjyFupWVEf1KBLzHvTb1ROhfczWTgFpT2USRukQ2VET1BN6uY7UOsSiXXhlQaxS_iF2DdthlySXJuoaoF/s200/Sunday+Dinner18a.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5502791161195868370" border="0" /></a>Hello, all, sorry I've been away so long, but it really couldn't be avoided. I've been a sick gal and I'm still not doing just great, but better than I was a week ago, somewhat.<br /><br />To make a long story short, I haven't been feeling well for over a month now. At times I thought it was my sugar but it's been well controlled, and it honestly never occurred to me that it might be my heart acting up until last Saturday when I had a bad spell while I was out shopping at Wal*mart.<br /><br />I had pressure in my neck and shoulder, cold, clammy drenching sweat, dizziness, shortness of breath, almost passed out, the whole nine yards. I went to the ER and they kept me till this past Monday, doing tests, including a heart catheterization and several EKG's. The EKG's showed some abnormalities, so they know it's something to do with my heart, but now we're trying to find out what exactly is going on.<br /><br />The heart cath showed no blockages in the major vessels, but they're almost sure that I have some blockages in the smaller vessels. I went back to the hospital Thursday morning and had 2 different types of CT scans done and also carotid dopplers of the veins in my neck. I haven't heard from those tests yet and I'm sure it will be at least Monday before I hear anything, if then.<br /><br />We all know they don't get in any hurry with those test results.<br /><br />They did tell me that I haven't had a heart attack, but if I hadn't come to the ER when I did, it might have happened soon.<br /><br />I'm still really weak and haven't been doing much of anything at all. I haven't had much of an appetite either, and didn't realize till they weighed me at the hospital, but I've lost over 40 lbs in the last month. I can certainly afford to lose that much and a lot more, but I don't recommend doing it the way I've done it.<br /><br />I don't feel like doing much of anything except playing my games on my computer, if that. I seem doze off quite a bit, so I guess I just need the rest still. Hopefully the test results will shed some light on things and I can be treated so I can start feeling better.<br /><br />In the meantime, I'm not going to church tomorrow, but I'm going to cook Sunday Dinner for me, Lamar and my sister, Ducky. It's going to be a minimal meal, not much actual cooking involved, but it will work.<br /><br />I'm going to roast a whole chicken and quarter some potatoes to add in with the chicken. I have some mixed veggies in the freezer, including broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and squash that I'll steam and I think I may cook some butterpeas as well, but that may be a little ambitious. We'll see how I feel when I get up and start cooking Sunday morning.<br /><br />Now, what's for Sunday Dinner at your place? Please share your menu/plans in the comments if you like.<br /><br />For those of you on Facebook I try to update there occasionally and any major news I might have will be posted there by me or my daughter, Jessica. I hope to get back to posting more often here as I feel like it, but can't make any promises about that.<br /><br />My sincerest thanks to all of you who have offered up your prayers, love and concern for me. Words cannot express how blessed and loved you make me feel, beloved family and friends.<br /><br />For now I'll wish you all a blessed Lord's Day. May God meet all your needs, and may you have enough to share, dear family and friends.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQj_-g50_V14xBTTLv_mIJXKp1ksDSNy5pvZgw7vDjrUihNfxDxfM73zzMC7KtMLxENjIgkv4cNUwSLc1EimEA66h10gae66-LhUEXSw5eODrgd8zSFdnyQFR35-74y16JImdS/s1600/SummerSig1.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQj_-g50_V14xBTTLv_mIJXKp1ksDSNy5pvZgw7vDjrUihNfxDxfM73zzMC7KtMLxENjIgkv4cNUwSLc1EimEA66h10gae66-LhUEXSw5eODrgd8zSFdnyQFR35-74y16JImdS/s200/SummerSig1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5502802067632613170" border="0" /></a>Diane@Diane's Placehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10919687116633720697noreply@blogger.com25tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21736979.post-11852935208395215852010-07-25T00:34:00.004-05:002010-07-25T02:04:35.904-05:00Sunday Dinner, July 25, 2010<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrl7hnfqOMkz6Eoked3iVVJlH3pdpplAZhFhpuRLVqLvQMqwRL9SRPhwmRCoFPM0lWdQalr7kd8RzyDEx6rKxw5v-IbuKPT54kJ9yvXU8yecmGIXbnTJ3MJnu2Dwa7YvUTByqc/s1600/SundayDinner26.jpg"><img style="float: left; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrl7hnfqOMkz6Eoked3iVVJlH3pdpplAZhFhpuRLVqLvQMqwRL9SRPhwmRCoFPM0lWdQalr7kd8RzyDEx6rKxw5v-IbuKPT54kJ9yvXU8yecmGIXbnTJ3MJnu2Dwa7YvUTByqc/s200/SundayDinner26.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5497732320205809186" border="0" /></a>I almost didn't even post this week but decided to get a short one in if I can still type. I'm TARD and will try to do a post in a couple of days but will only be covering Sunday Dinner for this one.<br /><br />I made a huge batch of <a href="http://dianesrecipeblog.blogspot.com/2007/04/hamburger-soup-diane-style.html"><span style="font-weight: bold;">MY HAMBURGER SOUP</span></a> for our supper on Friday night with full intentions of having enough left over for Sunday Dinner this week. I also made a big skillet of <a href="http://dianesrecipeblog.blogspot.com/2007/04/dianes-southern-cornbread.html"><span style="font-weight: bold;">HOMEMADE BUTTERMILK CORNBREAD</span></a> to go with the soup, and will make more if we end up eating at my place for Sunday Dinner this week.<br /><br />I say "if" we eat here because Lamar is going to Ft. Worth, Texas today and will be gone for a week, so I'll be by myself. After our usual after church discussion of where we're going for lunch, my sisters and I may decide to go out to eat instead of coming back here for soup and cornbread. That decision could go either way, and I'm fine with either option.<br /><br />Y'all have a blessed Lord's Day, and I'll see in a couple of days with another post, Lord willing.<br /><br />May God meet all your needs, and may you have enough to share, dear family and friends.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAcmWw6yoTHtv1-bZn44gvz_NqP1hnC-12B05KLw8ZvKCfsfMEnZjYB7YPmp4Js54FErKD5T1TgUn5iKH-No7yTbxzOzpRObN434HAEmWOilifU3cB3PJ2RDz9GD7MVVLg5uAI/s1600/SummerSig1.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAcmWw6yoTHtv1-bZn44gvz_NqP1hnC-12B05KLw8ZvKCfsfMEnZjYB7YPmp4Js54FErKD5T1TgUn5iKH-No7yTbxzOzpRObN434HAEmWOilifU3cB3PJ2RDz9GD7MVVLg5uAI/s200/SummerSig1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5495187543510466626" border="0" /></a>Diane@Diane's Placehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10919687116633720697noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21736979.post-71836804111826331712010-07-10T18:16:00.004-05:002010-07-10T19:01:00.919-05:00Sunday Dinner, July 11, 2010<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-CzMr3_BO_-PxouGg06v4zivGJs1SNTjMeZQPNzTewxYJ1U_gP0UQAeuXAUXKSCNkR2Fqk9E6VpkA_iRSzbaylzYsyh-P-PvJ5ciuJA4bYLVbJZ9CkB36fZXcobMQbZ0aSlyF/s1600/SundayDinner22.jpg"><img style="float: left; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; cursor: pointer; width: 196px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-CzMr3_BO_-PxouGg06v4zivGJs1SNTjMeZQPNzTewxYJ1U_gP0UQAeuXAUXKSCNkR2Fqk9E6VpkA_iRSzbaylzYsyh-P-PvJ5ciuJA4bYLVbJZ9CkB36fZXcobMQbZ0aSlyF/s200/SundayDinner22.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5492421306243891218" border="0" /></a>Sunday Dinner time again, and this week I'm back to some old habits.<br /><br />I'm not cooking this week and as usual, I have no idea where we might be eating.<br /><br />I may end up back at home eating a sandwich, or we may end up at a restaurant, but that will be decided after church tomorrow morning.<br /><br />But for those of you with an actual menu and/or a plan, please share your plans in the comments.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDlekL9gy7gS_iCHCAz7lvcdUs7M4jQiM8TOig-nM5MDVENQVPlXfjNwArPLLvBTA3acqdOnEBsOBN0VWXgL8DD3V1mUOclFJyfO0Wx-VnYK6yT7o9d5yg5r80dr-Am5eXRNRK/s1600/flowers-row-long.gif"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 24px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDlekL9gy7gS_iCHCAz7lvcdUs7M4jQiM8TOig-nM5MDVENQVPlXfjNwArPLLvBTA3acqdOnEBsOBN0VWXgL8DD3V1mUOclFJyfO0Wx-VnYK6yT7o9d5yg5r80dr-Am5eXRNRK/s320/flowers-row-long.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5492431068826897506" border="0" /></a>Just because I'm not cooking Sunday Dinner this week doesn't mean I haven't been cooking. We've had lots of fresh garden veggies given to us, such as corn on the cob, green beans, hot peppers and sweet bell peppers, yellow and zucchini squash, onions, okra, cucumbers, and my favorite, ripe garden tomatoes.<br /><br />I've also bought lots of strawberries and some cantaloupes and watermelons, and I have a fresh pineapple that I'm going to slaughter here in a little while. I love fresh veggies and fruits almost as much as I despise the heat and humidity that come with Summertime.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDlekL9gy7gS_iCHCAz7lvcdUs7M4jQiM8TOig-nM5MDVENQVPlXfjNwArPLLvBTA3acqdOnEBsOBN0VWXgL8DD3V1mUOclFJyfO0Wx-VnYK6yT7o9d5yg5r80dr-Am5eXRNRK/s1600/flowers-row-long.gif"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 24px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDlekL9gy7gS_iCHCAz7lvcdUs7M4jQiM8TOig-nM5MDVENQVPlXfjNwArPLLvBTA3acqdOnEBsOBN0VWXgL8DD3V1mUOclFJyfO0Wx-VnYK6yT7o9d5yg5r80dr-Am5eXRNRK/s320/flowers-row-long.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5492431068826897506" border="0" /></a>We had fried baloney sandwiches for supper tonight. We only have that about once a month, but it sure is good. I grilled pork ribs one night last week, and also grilled some pork steaks. Another night we had homemade breakfast burritos for supper. I love to make breakfast for supper occasionally.<br /><br />Thursday night I grilled some hot dogs for Lamar and a small steak for me. Lamar doesn't care for steak so that's why I fixed hot dogs for him. I cooked some turnip greens with some diced turnips and sliced some garden tomatoes, and that was our supper that night. Might not sound like a good combination, but it was really good at the time, or maybe I was just really hungry.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDlekL9gy7gS_iCHCAz7lvcdUs7M4jQiM8TOig-nM5MDVENQVPlXfjNwArPLLvBTA3acqdOnEBsOBN0VWXgL8DD3V1mUOclFJyfO0Wx-VnYK6yT7o9d5yg5r80dr-Am5eXRNRK/s1600/flowers-row-long.gif"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 24px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDlekL9gy7gS_iCHCAz7lvcdUs7M4jQiM8TOig-nM5MDVENQVPlXfjNwArPLLvBTA3acqdOnEBsOBN0VWXgL8DD3V1mUOclFJyfO0Wx-VnYK6yT7o9d5yg5r80dr-Am5eXRNRK/s320/flowers-row-long.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5492431068826897506" border="0" /></a>Life goes on, filled with the usual things that keep life busy. I've done laundry this week and need to do more now, naturally. I've spent time with my sisters and Jessica, Jason and Emmy, along with time with my church family. My sister, Ducky, is cooking a turkey and homemade macaroni salad to bring here for lunch, and I've already made a gallon of <a href="http://dianesrecipeblog.blogspot.com/2008/06/dianes-homemade-potato-salad.html"><span style="font-weight: bold;">MY HOMEMADE POTATO SALAD</span></a> to add to the meal.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZeJ3N5PlyRE236E0AxMDyM_trNefzP4XQoZqNrQzRm-EdHn2LDJjbKf-8_AI7eA2HeOcuobJNu2X4ZPTbtKrrHhKn8X11XK5Wg7WAW5D8Rd8kaGpyQEcg9Tc6KZelqjwkXk4J/s1600/Tatersalad1.jpg"><img style="float: right; margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 154px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZeJ3N5PlyRE236E0AxMDyM_trNefzP4XQoZqNrQzRm-EdHn2LDJjbKf-8_AI7eA2HeOcuobJNu2X4ZPTbtKrrHhKn8X11XK5Wg7WAW5D8Rd8kaGpyQEcg9Tc6KZelqjwkXk4J/s200/Tatersalad1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5489911471651824674" border="0" /></a>I think the plan is to make turkey sandwiches to go with the salads, but I don't eat turkey or chicken as a sandwich, and I don't eat cold turkey or chicken in any form, so I'll either warm up some turkey breast to eat or more likely eat a ham sandwich.<br /><br />I also bought a watermelon and it's already in the refrigerator, and also a cantaloupe for dessert, so that completes our menu.<br /><br />What's for Sunday Dinner this week at your place? Since it's also July 4th I'm sure many of you have special plans and menus to celebrate Independence Day, so please share your plans/menu in the comments. I've done some housework, did my monthly Wal*mart household shopping and various other things that kept me busy.<br /><br />The housework was mostly what I call the invisible type. You know, those things that are only noticed when they <span style="font-style: italic;">don't</span> get done, like cleaning the bathroom, refilling the liquid soap dispensers, scrubbing the kitchen sink and putting out new sponges....Things like that.<br /><br />I'm going to sweep the kitchen floor, vacuum the living room carpet and get my things ready for church tomorrow, and that's all I'm doing tonight.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhP1Tto9ktsgTpf7hvUzBjEHM72bOHRETxnh7S9Iof6ia_llSJAMktqmA_GcBTTlO7al8tFFi5MFNCaMfZBKLEitngEim_imRuGB34mjCijQajJXTOZVQscDOXNU5t7pGNgN0bQ/s1600/eflag.gif"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 76px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhP1Tto9ktsgTpf7hvUzBjEHM72bOHRETxnh7S9Iof6ia_llSJAMktqmA_GcBTTlO7al8tFFi5MFNCaMfZBKLEitngEim_imRuGB34mjCijQajJXTOZVQscDOXNU5t7pGNgN0bQ/s320/eflag.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5489912508868379074" border="0" /></a>For our Friday supper I baked some pork ribs in the oven just until they were barely done, then finished them on the grill with some hickory barbecue sauce. I have to say they were really good, and we also had some of that homemade tater salad to complete our meal.<br /><br />I made the tater salad Friday night so it would have time to get gooder by Sunday Dinner time, but it was already pretty good when we had it on Friday night.<br /><br />I didn't want to cook on Saturday night, so Lamar went with a friend and brought home Kentucky*Fried*Chicken for supper. For once it was hot and fresh and really good. I love their biscuits better than anyone's, including my own homemade biscuits, and I make biscuits at least 3 different ways.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhP1Tto9ktsgTpf7hvUzBjEHM72bOHRETxnh7S9Iof6ia_llSJAMktqmA_GcBTTlO7al8tFFi5MFNCaMfZBKLEitngEim_imRuGB34mjCijQajJXTOZVQscDOXNU5t7pGNgN0bQ/s1600/eflag.gif"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 76px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhP1Tto9ktsgTpf7hvUzBjEHM72bOHRETxnh7S9Iof6ia_llSJAMktqmA_GcBTTlO7al8tFFi5MFNCaMfZBKLEitngEim_imRuGB34mjCijQajJXTOZVQscDOXNU5t7pGNgN0bQ/s320/eflag.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5489912508868379074" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL5VAShaOftbGqxr5snVhyaRvMUK6Q8b-uKCfnJbNeUMUx4PJL4xQ2LXqLgNsn6zxNoNIUk_qKSUhiaLsgSkIaRWP_vFCitO1-FlycZl8YHYs76qcBF0zNxLQja2GjFEbov8Li/s1600/1262664ushn5hstlg.png"><img style="float: left; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL5VAShaOftbGqxr5snVhyaRvMUK6Q8b-uKCfnJbNeUMUx4PJL4xQ2LXqLgNsn6zxNoNIUk_qKSUhiaLsgSkIaRWP_vFCitO1-FlycZl8YHYs76qcBF0zNxLQja2GjFEbov8Li/s320/1262664ushn5hstlg.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5489913051593042786" border="0" /></a>It's nearly midnight and I'm determined to get the kitchen floor swept and the living room floor vacuumed before I go to bed, so I'd better get to it.<br /><br /><br /><br />I hope you all have a safe and happy 4th of July. Since it's nearly 2 am my time on Sunday morning, it's also going to be pretty brief as I really would like to get at least a couple hours sleep.<br /><br />Vacation Bible School 2010 is now in the history books and I have to say it's been a good one, but it's also kicked my trash this year. Emmy got to go every night, I'm happy to say, and she had a blast. I took her with me on the church van several nights, which involved hauling her car seat to and from the van along with all my assorted paraphernalia.<br /><br />But I digress. Since I'm still recovering from VBS I refuse to cook Sunday Dinner this week. I don't know if we'll end up eating out somewhere or come back here to my place for a baloney sandwich and I really don't care, but I know I'm not cooking anything.<br /><br />I didn't even cook our Saturday Supper this week. One of our good friends and neighbors had a family barbecue on Saturday and kindly shared their leftover grilled hot dogs and hamburgers with us, so that was our supper.<br /><br />Now, if you'd like to share your Sunday Dinner plans, feel free to do so.<br /><br />I mentioned last week that I had some pictures of Emmy as flower girl in a wedding, so here they are.<br /><br />Click on any of them to enlarge:<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVGR_4EBx5hcy-wXQM-TecVpmB3REWNOKh56O3qezQvrBh_yul9kMJaXX6DfmZ6iNiup43XBhrNw9q1FbZizdJ_2pvdyh0DyEOg94iupx1QhjbMz8niudfY2299NQb979xhxo9/s1600/104_3747.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVGR_4EBx5hcy-wXQM-TecVpmB3REWNOKh56O3qezQvrBh_yul9kMJaXX6DfmZ6iNiup43XBhrNw9q1FbZizdJ_2pvdyh0DyEOg94iupx1QhjbMz8niudfY2299NQb979xhxo9/s320/104_3747.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487348181720461890" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFdqN_Ms6wtzaF8Fv97BAjbDG09kWfmBGvAvnhvvY7i4lB8thOSt1yBmZcOGa8MImTpTK-YnEiWs120x-kYo3VK2msTvngvL0w20L0-1KtNO2UluhXNmGY34BvBo_wzL6a1W2e/s1600/104_3748.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFdqN_Ms6wtzaF8Fv97BAjbDG09kWfmBGvAvnhvvY7i4lB8thOSt1yBmZcOGa8MImTpTK-YnEiWs120x-kYo3VK2msTvngvL0w20L0-1KtNO2UluhXNmGY34BvBo_wzL6a1W2e/s320/104_3748.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487350521963411442" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMp3UitIXMJbz0mcEm50miiX6SzwWrulZ-vyK7AcIi1cU1w6-eX3LLa9LGdAoVl2nwBTqoyw3d5vQwqO6lGSZTdvOLy76q1Vbw4ifaLhOQ4zn_yss8roSN5TpJSqKbUgyyGZui/s1600/104_3749.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMp3UitIXMJbz0mcEm50miiX6SzwWrulZ-vyK7AcIi1cU1w6-eX3LLa9LGdAoVl2nwBTqoyw3d5vQwqO6lGSZTdvOLy76q1Vbw4ifaLhOQ4zn_yss8roSN5TpJSqKbUgyyGZui/s320/104_3749.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487351627837068514" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLTKdcX14Izx-yCmTbSvwe0jpzxbIRwtDsimX2uG09CU_OuCEUO52fLQE3c741o0T1tbKHKV7oVJKCYmxzsszCN78AkLoCfrnLtHVfS6HtZ2iRb8noHbf6HZKsAMt8FWTT71HO/s1600/104_3751.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLTKdcX14Izx-yCmTbSvwe0jpzxbIRwtDsimX2uG09CU_OuCEUO52fLQE3c741o0T1tbKHKV7oVJKCYmxzsszCN78AkLoCfrnLtHVfS6HtZ2iRb8noHbf6HZKsAMt8FWTT71HO/s320/104_3751.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487352361881311826" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjl_mJ7ldIf50V23Vu5ZbN_-6ISi6PT1sUzAT7waa0DvkYOAe2qLAhjaJwY_8tG1Nn59lT9PxBD5LEGiinzSNbzoyKFr_efNxlN7SA2o5cBbbW7GhESHh7lBrv0bHYi0cznSmSL/s1600/104_3752.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjl_mJ7ldIf50V23Vu5ZbN_-6ISi6PT1sUzAT7waa0DvkYOAe2qLAhjaJwY_8tG1Nn59lT9PxBD5LEGiinzSNbzoyKFr_efNxlN7SA2o5cBbbW7GhESHh7lBrv0bHYi0cznSmSL/s320/104_3752.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487352964521748818" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXOcHcQjYy-Et3Tw5bhgzLnW8BKZg7w9j_toi1s65PXkDztwLr0YMJ_xJfdWPqGli6YkEaBcezM40ku-u0gmBCh2A01G1KPwecWEqGDiF6xQOdW0AONd5nTPllUpDNdoEnyuLg/s1600/104_3753.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXOcHcQjYy-Et3Tw5bhgzLnW8BKZg7w9j_toi1s65PXkDztwLr0YMJ_xJfdWPqGli6YkEaBcezM40ku-u0gmBCh2A01G1KPwecWEqGDiF6xQOdW0AONd5nTPllUpDNdoEnyuLg/s320/104_3753.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487353608156735394" border="0" /></a>You'll notice the bright, cheery grin on the ring bearer's face. The newness of the pretty dress wore off pretty quickly when Emmy realized that she had to smile for several photos, and she finally went on strike and refused to pose for any more pictures.<br /><br />Well, that's all for now. I hate the heat and humidity of Summer, but love the fresh garden bounty!<br /><br />However....I won't be cooking Sunday Dinner this week. As I mentioned in last week's Sunday Dinner post, my church's Vacation Bible School starts Sunday night and all of the workers will be staying after the morning church services to decorate the classrooms and other areas of the church in preparation for VBS.<br /><br />I'll be doing the records again this year, so I'll be there to decorate my area for VBS. Some will bring their lunches, but most of us are grabbing a quick burger and going right back to the church to eat and get busy decorating. VBS begins at 6:30 pm so we have a lot to do in a few hours time.<br /><br />Emmy was the flower girl in a wedding today so I've been busy with that. Jessica had to work so I was chief flower girl herder, lol. Emmy was really cute but I haven't even looked at the pics I took to see how they turned out. I'll try to do that soon and post some if any turned out okay.<br /><br />I still have to grill some hot dogs for our supper and do some preparations for Sunday School and VBS tomorrow, so this is going to be a short installment of Sunday Dinner this week.<br /><br />And it's currently 96F with 80% humidity at 5:30 pm. Just thought I'd throw that in there. The forecast temp for Sunday is 101F with a heat index of 110F, and the rest of the week for VBS looks much the same. Ugh!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjy8ijGEoNdgjNvIKhyphenhyphenDQ5wop9b9NeJey08sfHYuG9J5StkvW3wb5oQ6rianBGutdqXBWfGCt9jkNpYObbvTG3a7k86ITxb3Cvku3SwzKpD8j7T3UWJY9NnC1m21SMowYmJj7mT/s1600/father's+day.jpeg"><img style="float: left; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; cursor: pointer; width: 128px; height: 100px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjy8ijGEoNdgjNvIKhyphenhyphenDQ5wop9b9NeJey08sfHYuG9J5StkvW3wb5oQ6rianBGutdqXBWfGCt9jkNpYObbvTG3a7k86ITxb3Cvku3SwzKpD8j7T3UWJY9NnC1m21SMowYmJj7mT/s200/father's+day.jpeg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5484614610856024178" border="0" /></a>If you'd like to share your menu or plans for your Sunday Dinner, please do so in the comments. Will wonders never cease?<br /><br />I have a pot of pinto beans cooking as I type this, and I'm going to make a big Dutch oven full of my <span style="font-weight: bold;"><a href="http://dianesrecipeblog.blogspot.com/2007/06/dianes-texas-hash.html">TEXAS HASH</a> </span>for the main dish, and also plenty of corn on the cob, as you might guess from the Sunday Dinner graphic I chose this week.<br /><br /><br />What's for Sunday Dinner at your place, or what are your plans? Jessica and Jason have been planning a 2 day trip in a couple of weeks and Jessica's been working some overtime for a little extra money for their trip.<br /><br />Well, as often happens, life rears its ugly head and Jason's car needed some emergency repairs Friday, and still needs more work. There went the money they had saved for their trip and more besides. Jessica will be trying to get all the overtime she can between now and their trip in an effort to get Jason's car back in good shape and also put some money back for their trip.<br /><br />Guess who'll be keeping Emmy a lot more than usual to help out my kids? So I'll be even busier than usual myself for the next few weeks taking care of Emmy for some of Jessica's overtime.<br /><br />Added to all that, my church's Vacation Bible School starts on Father's Day for the first night and I'm working in VBS again this year, taking care of the records. And Jessica and Jason will be gone on their trip June 22-23, which is right in the middle of that week, so I'll have Emmy all day Tuesday, overnight Tuesday night and all day again on Wednesday.<br /><br />I hope we both have nerves left after that marathon. ;o)<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0NqOklAyzQEY42402QN4OF7VPnppxeUHjCwYXUiefUPg2Snemj5a1a2UH0mG9daTQN-NHp6udU0cnTkt9yaqbL3OkOJsgaDaiV7bnRvrWLle2NflwqDGR96Rg3ymX9hco3Mul/s1600/dividerroses2.gif.png"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 62px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0NqOklAyzQEY42402QN4OF7VPnppxeUHjCwYXUiefUPg2Snemj5a1a2UH0mG9daTQN-NHp6udU0cnTkt9yaqbL3OkOJsgaDaiV7bnRvrWLle2NflwqDGR96Rg3ymX9hco3Mul/s320/dividerroses2.gif.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5482086984435864578" border="0" /></a>I still have to make the Texas Hash and study my Sunday School lesson, shower and do some other things tonight, so I think I'm going to cut things shorter than usual this time. That's just a hint of the garden bounty to come and I'm just the tiniest bit excited about it. Did I give it away? Could you tell?<br /><br />Once again I have no idea what we're doing for Sunday Dinner this week. I grilled hot dogs and yellow squash for our Saturday supper and it was delicious! I have more hot dogs and squash, so that's a possibility for Sunday Dinner, and since it's so hot, we also may end up eating sandwiches. I have plenty of baloney, ham and cheese, and we could always stop by the grocery store and pick up more lunch meat and bread.<br /><br />Yet another possibility is that we may end up eating out again, but all those options will be decided upon after church at noon.<br /><br />What's your Sunday Dinner plans? We did our monthly Wal*mart run for household items on Tuesday and that was draining. Our daily temps are holding pretty steady in the mid-90'sF and the humidity is holding in the miserable range as well.<br /><br />There are only so many adjectives to describe how hot and humid Arkansas Summers can be, so enough about that. Most of you are probably just as hot and icky where you are as I am here.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO4YTxygkjjKYwptYhJTzcmFm6Y-kZWzQJp-BCpbNw-70B945hvPuP1EcYe7PkiPHSbSFqGl7d7cq8qhf92rgeNuIbk302JPoo2IVcnPx8e-lgCD6mefinmMms4tz67tBb7WK4/s1600/flowers-row-long.gif"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 24px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO4YTxygkjjKYwptYhJTzcmFm6Y-kZWzQJp-BCpbNw-70B945hvPuP1EcYe7PkiPHSbSFqGl7d7cq8qhf92rgeNuIbk302JPoo2IVcnPx8e-lgCD6mefinmMms4tz67tBb7WK4/s320/flowers-row-long.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5479500003154750082" border="0" /></a>On Wednesday Jessica, Jason, Emmy and I went swimming at Crowley's Ridge State Park's lake. They have a swimming area with a sand beach that they had hauled in, and they also hauled in sand so the swimming area has a sand bottom.<br /><br />It was hot but breezy and the water was refreshing. Emmy had a blast, but she's going to have to be coaxed into getting in the water more without her swim floatie. She let me take her into the water for a while without her floatie, but it wasn't long before she wanted back in her floatie.<br /><br />Jessica started out the same way, but she learned to love the water and I'm sure with some coaching that Emmy will too. I hope we get to go swimming several more times over the Summer. It's great exercise and low impact to boot, and I slept great that night!<br /><br />After a trip home to shower, we all went to our favorite Mexican restaurant for supper, and it was wonderful, as usual. I appreciated not having to cook after our day of swimming, because I was pleasantly exhausted.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO4YTxygkjjKYwptYhJTzcmFm6Y-kZWzQJp-BCpbNw-70B945hvPuP1EcYe7PkiPHSbSFqGl7d7cq8qhf92rgeNuIbk302JPoo2IVcnPx8e-lgCD6mefinmMms4tz67tBb7WK4/s1600/flowers-row-long.gif"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 24px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO4YTxygkjjKYwptYhJTzcmFm6Y-kZWzQJp-BCpbNw-70B945hvPuP1EcYe7PkiPHSbSFqGl7d7cq8qhf92rgeNuIbk302JPoo2IVcnPx8e-lgCD6mefinmMms4tz67tBb7WK4/s320/flowers-row-long.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5479500003154750082" border="0" /></a>Thursday was a lazy day, but Friday I had Emmy all day, as usual. Lamar took her to our little local park, which is about a block from our apartment, for an hour or so that morning before it got too hot. Besides it getting too hot on the people, the playground equipment is out in the hot boiling sun, so it gets too hot for the kids to safely play on long before noon.<br /><br />After Emmy's nap, Lamar took Emmy back to the park for another hour or so but it was around 5 pm by then, so the sun wasn't quite so intense. I made some of my <a href="http://dianesrecipeblog.blogspot.com/2007/06/dianes-texas-hash.html"><span style="font-weight: bold;">TEXAS HASH</span></a> for our supper Friday night and it really hit the spot.<br /><br />Emmy and Jessica came by just as Lamar and I had finished eating our supper. Jessica brought me a big slab of homemade cheesecake made from <a href="http://dianesrecipeblog.blogspot.com/2008/11/mamas-cheesecake.html"><span style="font-weight: bold;">MY MAMA'S RECIPE</span></a> and it was great! Jessica is becoming quite the cook in her own right. :o)<br /><br />Emmy saw that we were eating Texas Hash, one of her favorite dishes, and insisted that she was hungry, even though Jessica said that Emmy had already eaten a full meal at home. I sent Emmy off with a bowl of Texas Hash and a fork, and she was still eating as they went out the door.<br /><br />Emmy has loved Texas Hash since she was a baby. As soon as she was able to eat table food she showed a love for almost anything tomato based, included ripe tomatoes. She also loves grilled squash and most vegetables, including broccoli and salads. I hope she keeps those healthy food preferences as she grows up.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO4YTxygkjjKYwptYhJTzcmFm6Y-kZWzQJp-BCpbNw-70B945hvPuP1EcYe7PkiPHSbSFqGl7d7cq8qhf92rgeNuIbk302JPoo2IVcnPx8e-lgCD6mefinmMms4tz67tBb7WK4/s1600/flowers-row-long.gif"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 24px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO4YTxygkjjKYwptYhJTzcmFm6Y-kZWzQJp-BCpbNw-70B945hvPuP1EcYe7PkiPHSbSFqGl7d7cq8qhf92rgeNuIbk302JPoo2IVcnPx8e-lgCD6mefinmMms4tz67tBb7WK4/s320/flowers-row-long.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5479500003154750082" border="0" /></a>Saturday morning I did my monthly grocery run to Wal*mart. I'm glad I went early and got home before 11 am. The heat and humidity was bearable, and the crowds were surprisingly light.<br /><br />I had a wonderful blessing that could have turned out so much worse than it did. Apparently my wallet fell out of the top of my purse onto the Wal*mart parking lot as I was getting out of my mother in law's car, and I never even noticed that it was gone!<br /><br />I had to pick up a prescription at the pharmacy first thing before I did my grocery shopping, and I was in line there when I thought I heard my name called over the PA system, calling me to the service desk. I was next in line at the pharmacy, so I decided to finish my business there before I made my way to the service desk to see why I'd been paged.<br /><br />While I was still standing in line at the pharmacy, my cell phone rang and it was Lamar. He said that someone had found my wallet and turned it in to the service desk and I needed to go pick it up.<br /><br />Well, of course my heart just about stopped! I didn't have a lot of cash, only $10 or so, but my driver's license, debit card, checkbook full of checks and other cards were in there and my imagination was running away with me, considering all the scenarios that could happen if any of them had been taken, having to cancel cards and stop payment on checks, replace my driver's license and debit card......The bad things that could have happened seemed endless.<br /><br />But.....I am truly blessed, thanks to the honesty of a stranger. The man who found my wallet turned it in to the service desk and when I arrived to pick it up, he was still there waiting to make sure that everything was still untouched in my wallet, which it was! I thanked him several times for his honesty, but he shrugged it off and left with a friendly wave.<br /><br />I've thanked God multiple times for His watch keep over me today and that an honest man found my wallet. It could have turned out so differently, and I'm grateful for that God sent that man my way on this day.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO4YTxygkjjKYwptYhJTzcmFm6Y-kZWzQJp-BCpbNw-70B945hvPuP1EcYe7PkiPHSbSFqGl7d7cq8qhf92rgeNuIbk302JPoo2IVcnPx8e-lgCD6mefinmMms4tz67tBb7WK4/s1600/flowers-row-long.gif"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 24px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO4YTxygkjjKYwptYhJTzcmFm6Y-kZWzQJp-BCpbNw-70B945hvPuP1EcYe7PkiPHSbSFqGl7d7cq8qhf92rgeNuIbk302JPoo2IVcnPx8e-lgCD6mefinmMms4tz67tBb7WK4/s320/flowers-row-long.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5479500003154750082" border="0" /></a>It's almost 10:30 pm and I still need to do some things before bed time, and a busy Sunday tomorrow.<br /><br />Y'all have a beautiful Lord's Day. But this is a case of life changing and rearranging, so I'll just deal with each Sunday Dinner situation as it comes.<br /><br />For this Sunday I know I'm not cooking so we'll be eating out somewhere, though I have no idea where, as usual.<br /><br />If you'd like to share your plans/menu in the comments, please feel free to do so.<br /><br />Lamar got home from Texas in the wee hours of Monday morning and we've spent this week getting back into our routine. I've done laundry and the usual household chores, and also watched Emmy Thursday morning and all day Friday.<br /><br />Tonight I grilled a couple of pork chops and some chicken legs and thighs, and also some potatoes that I cut into 1 inch thick rounds, and some garden fresh yellow squash. It was great and I'm looking forward to all the fresh garden veggies that our family and friends share with us.<br /><br />I also got soaked trying to finish up the grilling. A thunder shower came up pretty suddenly and I barely got the food cooked before it started blowing rain up under the overhang out back where I keep my grill. I was drenched before I got the food off the grill and everything carried inside, but it was worth it.<br /><br />On top of my usual activities, I'm now nursing a 4 week old kitten that Jessica found in the middle of the street. Apparently its mother abandoned it, and it's so sick that I have my doubts that it's going to make it.<br /><br />It has an upper respiratory infection and it was covered in fleas and I'm pretty sure it has some other serious problems, perhaps even feline leukemia. I've had it since Thursday afternoon and it just doesn't seem to be improving.<br /><br />I'm giving it oral antibiotics and antibiotic salve for its eyes, but the main problem is that it just doesn't want to nurse from a bottle. I've even fed it a little with an eye dropper, but it's fighting me every step of the way and it's growing weaker. I just don't know if I'm going to be able to save the poor little thing.<br /><br />I also know it's common for mother animals to abandon sick babies, this may be just such an instance. I'm trying to hard to save the poor thing, and at the same time trying to guard my heart against the inevitable hurt if the little thing dies. I think that is an impossible task though.<br /><br />I'm trying to feed it every 2 hours during the day, and I'm getting up in the middle of the night to feed it too, though with not much success, so you might see what's taking up a lot of my time at the moment.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWginRdWeP7bjMCfQqxCEkPxU3LdoHsayvxcQ3F7k4TOjGaW2_FzGHX58J-arjRdY0CP5gLkO7eStbbZXO5MnlgeHysi1UJfBdA2uBs84iX0VxQt7uTrkYQh1H7GmkaWwOTJce/s1600/patriotic.jpg"><img style="float: left; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWginRdWeP7bjMCfQqxCEkPxU3LdoHsayvxcQ3F7k4TOjGaW2_FzGHX58J-arjRdY0CP5gLkO7eStbbZXO5MnlgeHysi1UJfBdA2uBs84iX0VxQt7uTrkYQh1H7GmkaWwOTJce/s200/patriotic.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5476873794266226386" border="0" /></a>I'll try my best to do a post during this next week, but for now I need to get this published and take care of the kitten as well as my usual Saturday night routine.<br /><br />Hope y'all have a wonderful, safe and meaningful Memorial Day. Hard to believe it's been a week already since my last post, but the calendar doesn't lie, so it must be true.<br /><br />I'm sure that someday I'll eventually cook Sunday Dinner again, but it won't be this week. Lamar is still gone to visit his brother, so after some discussion with my sister Cecil/Lisa we decided that since only she and my sister Ducky would be here for dinner anyway, the three of us will just go out to eat somewhere.<br /><br />But I'm sure many of you are actually cooking Sunday Dinner, so feel free to share your menu in the comments. And if you're going out to eat somewhere, please share your plans as well.<br /><br />You'd like to hear a recap of the events of my week, you say? Well, glad to help you out. ;o)<br /><br />My hubby has been in Dallas/Ft. Worth all week so I've taken advantage of that by getting a lot of cleaning, purging, tossing and decluttering done without him underfoot.<br /><br />Tuesday I grilled pork steaks and burgers for Jessica, Emmy, Sue, Cecil and myself, and Jessica also took Jason a goody bag for lunch. It was good if I do say so myself, and we also had corn on the cob, tater babies, sliced tomatoes and rolls to round out the meal.<br /><br />While I was watching the grill, Jessica hauled out most of the contents of my outside utility room and together we ended up tossing most of it. Well, I made executive decisions from my lawn chair by the grill and Jessica did nearly all the work, carrying the rejects to the side of the road.<br /><br />I have a lot more room in my outside utility room now, and people were already stopping to scavenge through the reject pile before we went indoors to eat.<br /><br />Works for me: I get more room, somebody gets some free stuff that's still useful and doesn't end up in the landfill just yet.<br /><br />On Thursday Jessica helped me go through one of my living room closets and one of the closets in my spare bedroom. Once again we did a major purging of stuff from those two closets, with Jessica doing most of the work and me ruling on what to keep and what to toss.<br /><br />I got rid of a lot more stuff, including a 10-year old computer monitor that still worked, an equally old computer tower that still worked but was so outdated that it couldn't be used online, and lots of Christmas decorations and assorted paraphernalia.<br /><br />I looked out back a little earlier and was amazed that of the mountain of stuff Jessica hauled out to the road, only a few things remain from a pile of stuff that was over 6 feet high! Most of the stuff still had a lot of use in it, that's why I'd been so reluctant to get rid of it, but it was past time to let it go and move on, so I'm glad several people will benefit from my pack rat syndrome.<br /><br />Jessica also moved my old Singer sewing machine in its cabinet from behind my dining room table into my spare bedroom. I'm sure with it in there I'll use it and my new portable sewing machine more often. I can also use my old sewing machine cabinet as a table for my new portable machine, so hopefully that will work out well.<br /><br />As an added bonus, before she went home Thursday evening, Jessica cut my hair for me. I like my hair really short, especially in hot weather, and it was more than time for a haircut. It feels so much better now, and just in time, because it was 92F here today and so icky sticky I don't even really want to discuss it. If it hadn't been for the nice breeze that was blowing it would have been absolutely miserable, and I'm not ready for Summer in Arkansas just yet.<br /><br />Not that my preferences are being considered, before someone points that out.<br /><br />On Friday I had Emmy from 8:30 am till almost 7 pm, as usual. I managed to do 5 loads of laundry and get them hung up, folded and put away, and I also moved a small bookshelf from my spare bedroom and put it in the space freed up by moving my old sewing machine cabinet.<br /><br />The bookcase takes up less room than the sewing machine cabinet and I think the exchange is going to work better all around.<br /><br />Emmy and I managed to fit in a tea party after she woke from her nap. I was ready for a break by then, and our pot of hot Earl Grey tea really hit the spot. It tickles me that even at 3 years old, Emmy already likes hot tea. I like my tea really strong, and Emmy drinks it just as strong as I do, though with a little more sugar than I prefer in mine.<br /><br />I also did some other cleaning and housework, but I think I've bored y'all enough for now. One thing Jessica and I didn't get done was emptying all my kitchen cabinets and doing the purging and rearranging routine in there, but we'll get to that someday soon, hopefully. It's not like it's going anywhere, after all.<br /><br />I do want to apologize for not being more present regarding commenting on blogs and on Facebook. As you can see, I've been really busy with real life things, and I'm also really involved in Kingdoms Of Camelot on Facebook. It takes a lot of time and effort to really play the game as it should be played, and I'm nothing if not committed when it comes to most things I do. ;o)<br /><br />I still have some things I need to do before bedtime tonight, so I'd better wrap this up and get busy. I have a couple of pairs of pants to hem for a friend, and I want to take a shower and make a nice pot of Earl Grey tea to enjoy while I rest for a bit before bed.<br /><br />Y'all have a blessed Lord's Day. May God meet all your needs, and may you have enough to share, dear family and friends.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr2xwkg7__PpZUa0nTZmH8_NLs7f5egoOyhZek5Ex3t3TIistqbZcHtdzmMu4WnvJxwpJu4QEygUpVNEGCt_A1wjSIxVH7u2XlA-uC4AvDTaNINKm5BJxA73emL4IdwmNnlw5k/s1600/SummerSig2.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 164px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr2xwkg7__PpZUa0nTZmH8_NLs7f5egoOyhZek5Ex3t3TIistqbZcHtdzmMu4WnvJxwpJu4QEygUpVNEGCt_A1wjSIxVH7u2XlA-uC4AvDTaNINKm5BJxA73emL4IdwmNnlw5k/s200/SummerSig2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5474271677364558418" border="0" /></a>Diane@Diane's Placehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10919687116633720697noreply@blogger.com18tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21736979.post-2781006509594778212010-05-15T21:47:00.012-05:002010-05-15T23:23:11.635-05:00Sunday Dinner, May 16, 2010<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijNIfhdSYF1Neu5atLLXvRYHvTpEpBBwN5xYZt-A-zDwRKHB49AJD6BCAI7et7Fd_3wX74eBX8aLb8MpmNKl6uTe3VlLQjhIY-EAD4QnuJ4gQUh7-v29yep7p6fKTaCY9KLKn-/s1600/Sunday+Dinner11.jpg"><img style="float: left; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 182px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijNIfhdSYF1Neu5atLLXvRYHvTpEpBBwN5xYZt-A-zDwRKHB49AJD6BCAI7et7Fd_3wX74eBX8aLb8MpmNKl6uTe3VlLQjhIY-EAD4QnuJ4gQUh7-v29yep7p6fKTaCY9KLKn-/s200/Sunday+Dinner11.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5471695329081930834" border="0" /></a>I'm beginning to feel like a fraud, calling this my Sunday Dinner post when so many times lately I haven't cooked. And once again, I won't be cooking this week.<br /><br />My pastor's daughter is getting married in June and our church hosted a wedding shower for them on Saturday night, so I made a huge batch of <a href="http://dianesrecipeblog.blogspot.com/2010/04/dianes-homemade-pimento-cheese.html"><span style="font-weight: bold;">HOMEMADE PIMENTO CHEESE</span></a> sandwiches to take to the shower. Since I ate at the shower, I didn't cook supper and Lamar ate sandwiches for his supper.<br /><br /><br />It was nearly 8:30 pm when I got home and I'm not about to cook this late so there ya go; no Sunday Dinner again this week.<br /><br />We've been busy a lot on Saturdays and Sundays lately so it's been a while since I actually cooked Sunday Dinner, and I have no idea from week to week if I'll be cooking or not. Many times I've cooked a meal and still ended up going out to eat Sunday Dinner due to the general consensus of all involved.<br /><br />What are you doing for Sunday Dinner this week? Share your plans/menu in the comments if you'd like.<br /><br />I so enjoy hearing what everyone else is cooking or where you're eating out, and many of you leave comments here and on Facebook telling me how much you also enjoy this weekly event.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyfX6PmrExxgK8s8GczGcp7PzPNSTpYgTvs3UetCylq2os9ZFGkthMjFHm2wEfKhHdnAV7a96TQHJMzKRs0_2_5Hylau9tt89N4af6buu3sZvThrNHI_vCPi9oyR5yBfktz8lA/s1600/TBFlowerLine.gif"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 50px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyfX6PmrExxgK8s8GczGcp7PzPNSTpYgTvs3UetCylq2os9ZFGkthMjFHm2wEfKhHdnAV7a96TQHJMzKRs0_2_5Hylau9tt89N4af6buu3sZvThrNHI_vCPi9oyR5yBfktz8lA/s400/TBFlowerLine.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5471715819198495426" border="0" /></a>Lamar will be leaving Sunday night for Fort Worth, Texas to visit his brother for the next week, so I'll be trying to get some things done around the apartment that are better done without a man underfoot.<br /><br />I don't have a firm to-do list, just some vague plans so if I don't actually get anything done I'll have nothing to feel guilty about. I got the machine for less than half price because it was a close out. There's no way I could find $400 for a sewing machine in my budget so I was thrilled to find such a good deal on this one.<br /><br />I have to say though that I still prefer my old worn out Singer*Golden*Touch*N*Sew, even if it is 60 years old and the bobbin has an annoying habit of randomly popping out of the case in the middle of sewing, breaking the sewing needle and snarling the bobbin thread.<br /><br />My old machine is heavier and more suited to sewing heavy denim, and I like that it's in a sewing machine cabinet. On the other hand, I hate having to pull my dining table out to get to my old sewing machine.<br /><br />However, I like the convenience of the new portable machine and it has a lot more stitch options. Each machine has its pros and cons, and I'll just have to get used to the new machine because the old one is on its last leg, figuratively speaking.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyfX6PmrExxgK8s8GczGcp7PzPNSTpYgTvs3UetCylq2os9ZFGkthMjFHm2wEfKhHdnAV7a96TQHJMzKRs0_2_5Hylau9tt89N4af6buu3sZvThrNHI_vCPi9oyR5yBfktz8lA/s1600/TBFlowerLine.gif"><img style="display: block; As this Sunday is Mother's Day here in the U.S. I won't be cooking Sunday Dinner this week. As usual when I'll be eating out for Sunday Dinner, I have no idea where I'll be going for the noon meal. My sisters and I will decide where we're going to eat after church is over at noon.<br /><br />Lamar is spending the day with his Mom and taking her out to eat for Mother's Day. He'll go to church with her on Sunday morning then they'll decide where they're eating Sunday Dinner.<span style="font-weight: bold;"><br /><br /><a href="http://jessicasworld-jess.blogspot.com/">JESSICA</a></span> and Emmy are going to church with me on Sunday morning but she's not sure what she's doing for Sunday Dinner. Jason may or may not be with them, and they may or may not be going to Jason's Mom's on Sunday afternoon.<br /><br />Don't you just love how decisive we are?<br /><br />What are your plans for Sunday Dinner on this Mother's Day? Share your menu/plans in the comments if you'd like to participate this week.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnNgLAzWZsBDxwYKRHIDHqqixUEsMZKUIp54bDwsrfBbZs-pQqHY1MFWRe8fBg79glXihDUhNyGqOMVfX6TItUcfx4WEkxX9A_Vmmn_h6lHuD0jzPhR5W5gndz9pwP-JOrCipy/s1600/divider+3+pink+flowers.gif"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 145px; height: 18px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnNgLAzWZsBDxwYKRHIDHqqixUEsMZKUIp54bDwsrfBbZs-pQqHY1MFWRe8fBg79glXihDUhNyGqOMVfX6TItUcfx4WEkxX9A_Vmmn_h6lHuD0jzPhR5W5gndz9pwP-JOrCipy/s400/divider+3+pink+flowers.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469106659688484674" border="0" /></a>Saturday was Emmy's 3rd birthday, as difficult as that may be to compute. It just doesn't seem possible that it's been 3 years since she was born, but it's true.<br /><br />Jessica and Jason had a party for Emmy at a local steak and buffet restaurant and invited some of the family . They reserved a small banquet room and bought her a Disney*Princess Castle cake for the adults and a smaller Princess cake just for Emmy, and she really dug into it.<br /><br />Three is such a fun age for birthdays, and Emmy thoroughly enjoyed hers and got lots of nice gifts.<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><br />Jessica took this pic of me and Emmy at her birthday party. :o)<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvLS5jB6mrBJcN3Ves-F7zzO8ttwo3UwtVdHYajXaqtluXbk-2Lq1L26r2uYrlRn41GP5msYo_2464-NVcQavNOUutncXrvIlG89e6rK5FYueE6W3MzhH1fZKlWYUQKblWI_Ti/s1600/104_3607.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvLS5jB6mrBJcN3Ves-F7zzO8ttwo3UwtVdHYajXaqtluXbk-2Lq1L26r2uYrlRn41GP5msYo_2464-NVcQavNOUutncXrvIlG89e6rK5FYueE6W3MzhH1fZKlWYUQKblWI_Ti/s320/104_3607.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469101738598708306" border="0" /></a>Jessica also took this pic of us in the car as<br />we were leaving Emmy's birthday party.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWRD4PS50uorPEl06BRyhhJfo2uFOr8bGJkpgmAtfBpQSjkk21NjUYSC8V-CuYTWZ2OEsY3ppGVi6tzTquPsOxkE0jS8oGSNmWWUkymNqLxOA5V9fnGSCS0aiRhiIc-faq988F/s1600/104_3618.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWRD4PS50uorPEl06BRyhhJfo2uFOr8bGJkpgmAtfBpQSjkk21NjUYSC8V-CuYTWZ2OEsY3ppGVi6tzTquPsOxkE0jS8oGSNmWWUkymNqLxOA5V9fnGSCS0aiRhiIc-faq988F/s320/104_3618.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469102517368501938" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnNgLAzWZsBDxwYKRHIDHqqixUEsMZKUIp54bDwsrfBbZs-pQqHY1MFWRe8fBg79glXihDUhNyGqOMVfX6TItUcfx4WEkxX9A_Vmmn_h6lHuD0jzPhR5W5gndz9pwP-JOrCipy/s1600/divider+3+pink+flowers.gif"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 145px; height: 18px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnNgLAzWZsBDxwYKRHIDHqqixUEsMZKUIp54bDwsrfBbZs-pQqHY1MFWRe8fBg79glXihDUhNyGqOMVfX6TItUcfx4WEkxX9A_Vmmn_h6lHuD0jzPhR5W5gndz9pwP-JOrCipy/s400/divider+3+pink+flowers.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469106659688484674" border="0" /></a>I want to wish Jessica a very happy Mother's Day,<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">and also to all my family and dear friends who are mothers.<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWmlQjA4Qlu40Qx6pTvOzibFrerb9uOveE5lOccJoHsp0LP-x9NA6UA9gPqSsfpA0FiuCTZWyyz6vnHXF7uVo218BwCOtk8BMOj9PGbo2ss5lDsR23MhGwf9SljP7xd3bpmsf4/s1600/happy-mothers-day.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWmlQjA4Qlu40Qx6pTvOzibFrerb9uOveE5lOccJoHsp0LP-x9NA6UA9gPqSsfpA0FiuCTZWyyz6vnHXF7uVo218BwCOtk8BMOj9PGbo2ss5lDsR23MhGwf9SljP7xd3bpmsf4/s200/happy-mothers-day.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469108553021367234" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKYnJUtRj29qV6wmbTtf8ETeix-gGffkmBr8BcEgSzxG-FXrvCrw6QUYSQr-sf3UTAOloUkUT4MdM-wvDRS7DWPMWphwrWjqPgxJauadpev2Tt9BxSokzuzt_b-MJvfE9hwv40/s1600/luecook.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 144px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKYnJUtRj29qV6wmbTtf8ETeix-gGffkmBr8BcEgSzxG-FXrvCrw6QUYSQr-sf3UTAOloUkUT4MdM-wvDRS7DWPMWphwrWjqPgxJauadpev2Tt9BxSokzuzt_b-MJvfE9hwv40/s200/luecook.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469109039413874690" border="0" /></a>Jessie Lue Cook, June 28, 1929-April 13, 2005<br /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;">Happy Mother's Day, Mama. The National Weather Service has issued a Particularly Dangerous Situation in conjunction with a Tornado Watch for our area, which includes most of Arkansas, and as I type this there are literally over a dozen tornado warnings for the counties to our Southwest and the storms are only a couple of counties away from me right now.<br /><br />Other issues are frequent lightning and flash flooding. A boy in a nearby town was struck by lightning last night, but I haven't heard if it killed him or not. We've already had several inches of rain and are expected to get a lot more tonight, which will cause even more flooding.<br /><br />As you might possibly know by now, I'm back online. I had to wait on our telephone company to ship me another phone modem because mine died last week. That's why I missed posting last Sunday's Dinner, but I think I'm back in business now.<br /><br />We did our big monthly Walmart shopping today, and then we went to our favorite catfish restaurant with friends for supper tonight, so that's why I'm getting a late start for this post.<br /><br />My church is having a fellowship after Sunday morning preaching, so I'm making some <a href="http://dianesrecipeblog.blogspot.com/2010/04/dianes-homemade-pimento-cheese.html"><span style="font-weight: bold;">HOMEMADE PIMENTO CHEESE</span></a> sandwiches. I'll make the pimento cheese tonight and take the bread and pimento cheese to church with me, then assemble the sandwiches at church so the bread won't get soggy.<br />I want to make a <span style="font-weight: bold;"><a href="http://dianesrecipeblog.blogspot.com/2010/04/honeybun-cake.html">HONEYBUN CAKE</a> </span>too, but that will depend on the weather. If it doesn't get too bad, if the power stays on, if the storms move out before too late --- well, you get the picture.<br /><br />So, I'll be making homemade pimento cheese tonight, taking it to church and assembling the sandwiches there, and possibly making a honeybun cake, weather permitting. Of course there'll be all kinds of goodies that my other church friends will bring to the fellowship, so there's no telling exactly what I'll be having for my Sunday Dinner, but from past experience I can say with some assurance that it will all be good.<br /><br />What's for Sunday Dinner at your place this week? Share your plans/menu in the comments if you'd like to participate this week.<br /><br />For those of you that are also on Facebook I'll try to keep updating my status as I can, assuming we still have power and don't get blown away tonight.<br /><br />It's beginning to thunder and lightning, so I'm going to wind this up and get it posted.<br /><br />Y'all have a safe and blessed weekend. May God meet all your needs and may you have enough to share is my prayer for each of you, dear family and friends.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_5g1x5U-5j1uqQXCpXr1kbYHW_-kdz4YesHFkTaeroorIB0rlGYE7uxKcJJlA6wNn9taeuD9O0jvDfJbSwXfx2hcZm2T-W0ifZAaXqr8PKl-1uN2m2jrnvlTQ0UYi-JuZ6-Lh/s1600/SpringSig1150.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 150px; height: 75px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_5g1x5U-5j1uqQXCpXr1kbYHW_-kdz4YesHFkTaeroorIB0rlGYE7uxKcJJlA6wNn9taeuD9O0jvDfJbSwXfx2hcZm2T-W0ifZAaXqr8PKl-1uN2m2jrnvlTQ0UYi-JuZ6-Lh/s200/SpringSig1150.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5466475551660644594" border="0" /></a>Diane@Diane's Placehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10919687116633720697noreply@blogger.com19tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21736979.post-84056112414978386562010-04-24T23:04:00.002-05:002010-04-24T23:07:42.259-05:00Mom's Away<div align="center"><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;">This is </span><a href="http://jessicasworld-jess.blogspot.com/"><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;">Jessica</span></a><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;"> posting for my Mom, Diane. </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;">Her modem died this evening, </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;">and she won't be able to get back online til next week sometime. </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;">Sorry about your regularly scheduled Sunday Dinner Post....</span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;">I'm sure Mom would love for you to still leave your comments </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;">about what you will be doing for dinner tomorrow. </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;">Mom sends her love</span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;"> and I'm sure she will be going through withdrawals until her net is back!</span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;"></span> </div><div align="center"><a href="http://jessicasworld-jess.blogspot.com/"><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;">Jess</span></a></div>Diane@Diane's Placehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10919687116633720697noreply@blogger.com18tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21736979.post-56896561527890737222010-04-17T19:49:00.007-05:002010-04-17T21:16:38.966-05:00Sunday Dinner, April 18, 2010<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZfbOKn61v38wNkQZwA6IjrFkWJHCtBuoW9byynyp6qHm6VS1EsKySlPQVVU52s371wcTaoZtYlqfDkWGz-I1IOURf_AfOnWNMBznyMlpipofBgGMnXMRi3r9MS9ykh1IRQv5M/s1600/SundayDinner4.jpg"><img style="float: left; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZfbOKn61v38wNkQZwA6IjrFkWJHCtBuoW9byynyp6qHm6VS1EsKySlPQVVU52s371wcTaoZtYlqfDkWGz-I1IOURf_AfOnWNMBznyMlpipofBgGMnXMRi3r9MS9ykh1IRQv5M/s200/SundayDinner4.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5461274712115081362" border="0" /></a>I made homemade egg salad for supper tonight, and for some reason I'm not feeling all that ambitious about Sunday Dinner with my belly full of egg salad sandwiches, not to mention the pot of Earl Grey tea I've almost finished.<br /><br />Anybody else not that enthused about cooking when you're not hungry? Or is it just me?<br /><br />Nevertheless, the preparations for Sunday Dinner must proceed. And when I said "cooking" in the previous paragraph I may have overstated the matter just a bit, since I'm not exactly cooking tonight.<br /><br />It might help if I explain. As they've done several times over the last year or so, my sisters Ducky and Cecil bought a couple of smoked Boston butt pork roasts a couple of weeks ago and they've been in my freezer. We had discussed that we might have pork barbecue sandwiches for last Sunday's dinner, but we ended up going out to eat instead.<br /><br />So, this week we're having the pork barbecue sandwiches. I've already thawed one of the Boston butts and I'm going to slice it thinly and put it in a foil-covered pan and refrigerate it overnight. When we get home from church tomorrow afternoon, I'll place the sliced meat in the oven to heat while we get the table set and get ready to eat.<br /><br />We usually pick up some barbecue sauce, hamburger buns and cole slaw to assemble our sandwiches. Kentucky*Fried*Chicken has pretty good slaw so a lot of times we get our slaw there on the way home from church, especially when I don't have any cabbage, as is the case at the present. I usually have cabbage on hand, but for some reason I didn't get any when I bought groceries this time.<br /><br />What are you having for Sunday Dinner this week? A couple of days it almost reached 90F, which is pretty hot for mid-April here in Northeast Arkansas.<br /><br />But overnight Friday into Saturday a cold front has pushed through and dropped the temperature 20 degrees, which is much more to my liking. Our high today was only 68F and the night time temps are also correspondingly lower.<br /><br />We generally have a cool snap around this time every year, and many people call this "Dogwood Winter" since the dogwoods are blooming around the same time each Spring.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpMGDo7ZqdCTKNCdwmChJ5OGrqpHLEt0keGw8QIsqJMwoJNjaiB7UPuyd4NEg5wEb19CKVmQKnhPTAaBVxhUB46kkYVVwPQuwRGjA0O8aZwNz0pBy7zHkm-yJD0ANogpC8QpA3/s1600/dogwood.jpg"><img style="float: right; margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 224px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpMGDo7ZqdCTKNCdwmChJ5OGrqpHLEt0keGw8QIsqJMwoJNjaiB7UPuyd4NEg5wEb19CKVmQKnhPTAaBVxhUB46kkYVVwPQuwRGjA0O8aZwNz0pBy7zHkm-yJD0ANogpC8QpA3/s320/dogwood.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5461283852654436466" border="0" /></a>In a few weeks we should have another cool snap, sometime around Mother's Day. It's generally the week before, the week of, or the week after Mother's Day, and we call that one Blackberry Winter. As you might gather, the wild blackberries bloom during that time period, thus the reason for the name of that cool spell.<br /><br />In the Fall we also have Indian Summer, but I suppose most people are familiar with that one.<br /><br />I wonder, wherever you live in the world, are there names for cool or warm changes in your weather like we have here, or is this just another oddity of us Southerners?<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg93ofPrujya7I_zFh8AGLQu1QChyevzHna91p-oNYg0DLsfV00ad1NvQjQSF3i8xyV-ZKYvjKX89Zs95ve9cAvVrQdDq035WU1bIZ6obVgkWDd_leM3OXMCp2qfwxAVLmSlkH/s1600/bunbeeline.gif"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 70px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg93ofPrujya7I_zFh8AGLQu1QChyevzHna91p-oNYg0DLsfV00ad1NvQjQSF3i8xyV-ZKYvjKX89Zs95ve9cAvVrQdDq035WU1bIZ6obVgkWDd_leM3OXMCp2qfwxAVLmSlkH/s400/bunbeeline.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5461291158060394050" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpInMfRHOHsbZ59o2lPNKYk8ak1yqu9MJjh6AII9_9t06sbttKM1U1AFzb8RQUXchabp0UJFzzy5EgB0fK_eVbqlhjxgkpYmAdRzabPLnXKAd0nV4wWk8eugifIZWRfVruaxUS/s1600/104_3337.JPG"><img style="float: left; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpInMfRHOHsbZ59o2lPNKYk8ak1yqu9MJjh6AII9_9t06sbttKM1U1AFzb8RQUXchabp0UJFzzy5EgB0fK_eVbqlhjxgkpYmAdRzabPLnXKAd0nV4wWk8eugifIZWRfVruaxUS/s320/104_3337.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5461290583089710706" border="0" /></a>Our pastor's wife took this pic on Easter Sunday of Cecil, me and Ducky. Not that it's doing me much good, and won't until June or so.<br /><br />Anyway, on to the Sunday Dinner news. Once again, I'm not cooking Sunday Dinner this week, and I'm not sure what I'll be eating for the meal.<br /><br />My sisters Ducky and Cecil bought a couple of smoked pork Boston butts, but as of this past Wednesday night they weren't sure if they wanted those for Sunday Dinner or not.<br /><br />If they decide that's what they want for Sunday Dinner, we'll come back here to my apartment after church, slice the smoked pork and heat it in the oven, and serve it on buns with barbecue sauce, slaw and whatever else we come up with.<br /><br />Another option is that we may end up eating out somewhere, in which case your guess is as good as mine what we'll have for and where we'll have Sunday Dinner this week.<br /><br />Now that my plans are clear as mud, what are your plans for Sunday Dinner this week? Share your plans/menu in the comments if you'd like.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL29K-BEjZTpTebH4sXFrFUA0A2FjVKhuCp9oNAg7bB-7KEj2afbtpnx3oG4ODotM4WhL8Vmm6cOGNsGLlVu6MzKciAsVJ2dr7aPz9cMA0mvN_iKGkrfpCKhgBzhzNHP0ekZVk/s1600/flowers-row-long.gif"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 24px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL29K-BEjZTpTebH4sXFrFUA0A2FjVKhuCp9oNAg7bB-7KEj2afbtpnx3oG4ODotM4WhL8Vmm6cOGNsGLlVu6MzKciAsVJ2dr7aPz9cMA0mvN_iKGkrfpCKhgBzhzNHP0ekZVk/s320/flowers-row-long.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5458705429541410290" border="0" /></a>I made beef stir fry with oriental vegetables and sai-fun, also called cellophane noodles, for our supper tonight, and it was pretty tasty if I do say so myself. I volunteered to make some brownies and some homemade pimiento cheese. As you can see, it's not strictly a <span style="font-style: italic;">bake</span> sale, but I didn't know what else to call it. A food sale? Hmm....no, that doesn't sound right either.<br /><br />Anyhow, I made my pimiento cheese already but I still have to make my brownies in a bit. I bought 2 mixes that make a 13x9 pan full but I'm going to bake them in 8x8 pans instead, so the 2 mixes will yield 4 of the 8x8 pans. Hopefully our "bake" sale will do well.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL29K-BEjZTpTebH4sXFrFUA0A2FjVKhuCp9oNAg7bB-7KEj2afbtpnx3oG4ODotM4WhL8Vmm6cOGNsGLlVu6MzKciAsVJ2dr7aPz9cMA0mvN_iKGkrfpCKhgBzhzNHP0ekZVk/s1600/flowers-row-long.gif"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 24px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL29K-BEjZTpTebH4sXFrFUA0A2FjVKhuCp9oNAg7bB-7KEj2afbtpnx3oG4ODotM4WhL8Vmm6cOGNsGLlVu6MzKciAsVJ2dr7aPz9cMA0mvN_iKGkrfpCKhgBzhzNHP0ekZVk/s320/flowers-row-long.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5458705429541410290" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgztv4_07ArzQKf23DKpcYoY0QB4YG-RD82AL1cEMCky9tlLo1uMdw0C6rQsIoC58pp0m8iKQlwM4kKOc1hVjkQzDw7c4Xa3xH9jJhKJPczk41hhfCUJwVi5dRHLZ5_hniyJ-R2/s1600/104_3352.JPG"><img style="float: left; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgztv4_07ArzQKf23DKpcYoY0QB4YG-RD82AL1cEMCky9tlLo1uMdw0C6rQsIoC58pp0m8iKQlwM4kKOc1hVjkQzDw7c4Xa3xH9jJhKJPczk41hhfCUJwVi5dRHLZ5_hniyJ-R2/s320/104_3352.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5458706382816259810" border="0" /></a>I asked Jessica to take some pics of me and Emmy on Thursday. We went for a car ride and ended up at a park to let Emmy run off some energy. It was a beautiful sunny Spring day here.<br /><br />This was the best of about a half dozen pics. Emmy was squirming and ready to go play some more. She didn't have much patience with a Gramma that wanted some pictures; it was interfering with her play time. ;o)<br /><br />I had Emmy most of the day on Friday. I say "most of the day" because Jessica managed to get off work early and picked Emmy up around 3 pm rather than the usual 7 pm or so.<br /><br />Emmy has been puny but seems to be feeling better. She's been running fever, has an upset tummy occasionally and has been complaining of a headache, tummy ache and body aches. She's also had a runny nose off and on, but that may be a separate issue. She doesn't feel bad all the time either.<br /><br />We don't know if she's cutting jaw teeth or has a tummy bug or what's going on, but none of it has been bad enough to warrant going to the doctor, although if she gets bad enough Jessica will certainly take her. I spoke with Jessica earlier today and she said Emmy has been fine today and was playing with her cousins at Jason's Mom's, her other Gramma's.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL29K-BEjZTpTebH4sXFrFUA0A2FjVKhuCp9oNAg7bB-7KEj2afbtpnx3oG4ODotM4WhL8Vmm6cOGNsGLlVu6MzKciAsVJ2dr7aPz9cMA0mvN_iKGkrfpCKhgBzhzNHP0ekZVk/s1600/flowers-row-long.gif"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 24px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL29K-BEjZTpTebH4sXFrFUA0A2FjVKhuCp9oNAg7bB-7KEj2afbtpnx3oG4ODotM4WhL8Vmm6cOGNsGLlVu6MzKciAsVJ2dr7aPz9cMA0mvN_iKGkrfpCKhgBzhzNHP0ekZVk/s320/flowers-row-long.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5458705429541410290" border="0" /></a>I should get busy making those brownies unless I want to be up half the night.<br /><br />Y'all have a blessed and wonderful Lord's Day. Welcome to the second quarter of 2010 already. Sunny and 82F which is almost unheard of for the first week in April, and quite a bit above average for our normal high temps for this time of year. I hope it's not foreshadowing an early and hotter than average Summer for us. There are no words intense enough to convey my hatred for hot muggy weather, which is indeed ironic since I live in the torridly hot and humid South.<br /><br />This post is going to be uncharacteristically (wow, long word!) brief tonight because I need to cut it short and take care of some things. Namely, I still need to study my Sunday School lesson, take a shower and do my nails, and I hear a pot of hot Earl Grey tea calling my name.<br /><br />I hope you all have a happy and joyful Easter, dear friends and family. May God meet all your needs and may you have enough to share.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx_gQ0nkZk17YelatBU7YgvmzBSqOsCMiOrj9zHkNpWsTdH4ZCKcXmg1f8U6PvwqZCMXNHYD45q65Q9vRCxIhyphenhyphenIWuQ3QHMNSogYAqurK31uawq1RezooIUMqQzh4dIKbIAxI4U/s1600/SpringSig3150.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 150px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx_gQ0nkZk17YelatBU7YgvmzBSqOsCMiOrj9zHkNpWsTdH4ZCKcXmg1f8U6PvwqZCMXNHYD45q65Q9vRCxIhyphenhyphenIWuQ3QHMNSogYAqurK31uawq1RezooIUMqQzh4dIKbIAxI4U/s200/SpringSig3150.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5456115181884878482" border="0" /></a>Diane@Diane's Placehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10919687116633720697noreply@blogger.com19tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21736979.post-79558582987657191372010-03-27T22:29:00.007-05:002010-03-28T00:15:04.196-05:00Sunday Dinner, March 28, 2010<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMovpCAlT2p_rPWxIjrNnJNQPPvagMIsLOLteV6eI2SG-R5a3jZv9W0hIcKYFxyXaRJTkKQ2dKMB_nPUDG2HeZ5WPo0DXaMTw_Uqiok22twR6tsRCxJsifda62tiQGNBs8IhyI/s1600/White+Beans+Edited.jpg"><img style="float: left; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMovpCAlT2p_rPWxIjrNnJNQPPvagMIsLOLteV6eI2SG-R5a3jZv9W0hIcKYFxyXaRJTkKQ2dKMB_nPUDG2HeZ5WPo0DXaMTw_Uqiok22twR6tsRCxJsifda62tiQGNBs8IhyI/s320/White+Beans+Edited.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5453525925164320754" border="0" /></a>Looks like most of the storms are over, so I'll try to get this typed and posted just in case there are more storms on the way.<br /><br />As you might surmise from my Sunday Dinner graphic, I'm cooking a pot of white beans and ham hocks for Sunday Dinner this week. White beans are also known as Great Northern beans to some of you.<br /><br />I'm also going to make some macaroni and tomatoes and either <a href="http://dianesrecipeblog.blogspot.com/2007/04/dianes-southern-cornbread.html"><span style="font-weight: bold;">HOMEMADE BUTTERMILK CORNBREAD</span></a> or <a href="http://dianesrecipeblog.blogspot.com/2007/04/dianes-pan-bread.html"><span style="font-weight: bold;">HOMEMADE PANBREAD</span></a> to accompany the beans. I have plenty of garden green beans in the freezer, so I may also cook some green beans and ham to round out the meal.<br /><br />So, a typical Southern home cooked meal for us this week for Sunday Dinner. They were severe for a while but by the time they reached us they were mainly just loud with lots of lightning and rain, but not too intense.<br /><br />Spring in Arkansas generally means waves of storms every few days, with a couple of days of beautiful sunny warm weather in between the storms that bring cooler weather for a day or so. This weather pattern usually persists until the heat of Summer takes hold for good, sometime in June in most years. However, we have storms and tornadoes year round, even in Winter. Some of our most violent and destructive tornadoes have occurred in Winter.<br /><br />Spring continues to burst out all over here in Arkansas. All manner of trees, shrubs, Spring bulbs and flowers are blooming now, and the trees and shrubs are beginning to leaf out in earnest. Our daily high temps are ranging from the upper 50'sF to the upper 70'sF and our nightly low temps from the upper 30'sF through the 40'sF.<br /><br />If we have several dry days, the local farmers are straining at the bit to get in the fields and prepare them for Spring planting. Our average last date of frost is April 15th, but sometimes they can get away with planting before that, and local gardeners have already planted early cool veggies such as radishes, lettuce, potatoes, onions, turnips and other greens, and even some cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower, though they may have to be covered if we have more freezing weather.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhCW3Zxygy6Hz_-qcl5ApP6pNI3v9EqeaYi-qq_CYttj9TfpX4hwRx1a64l0bFuBTLUE4phSgQvdLnLs9kCpaYsDujsPFup4E3uPRa7eQfDIpyaT4TkqUlFYFlt4t1snRhf1Sd/s1600/TBFlowerLine.gif"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 50px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhCW3Zxygy6Hz_-qcl5ApP6pNI3v9EqeaYi-qq_CYttj9TfpX4hwRx1a64l0bFuBTLUE4phSgQvdLnLs9kCpaYsDujsPFup4E3uPRa7eQfDIpyaT4TkqUlFYFlt4t1snRhf1Sd/s400/TBFlowerLine.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5453543891344243826" border="0" /></a><span style="font-weight: bold;"><a href="http://jessicasworld-jess.blogspot.com/">JESSICA</a> </span>and Jason are officially back together. They spent a couple of days this past week moving Jason's belongings from his apartment in Jonesboro to Jessica's apartment here in Bay. Since they're combining households again, they had to make some decisions on what to keep and what to give away.<br /><br />One of Jessica's friends that she graduated high school with had a house fire this week, and lost everything. Jessica and Jason gave Heather and her parents several things to help them start over, and I'm proud of them for their generosity.<br /><br />I have to say, it never even occurred to me that Heather's family could use Jessica and Jason's extra stuff. I should be ashamed to admit that, I think, but it honestly never even crossed my mind.<br /><br />Jessica, Jason and Emmy seem to be ecstatic to be back together as a family, and I'm praying they can make things work this time. Thanks to all of you who have been praying for them and keeping them in your thoughts, and please continue. The bowl of soup on the Sunday Dinner graphic? Well, my job is done!<br /><br />Oh, okay, I'll expound a little more on my Sunday Dinner menu this week. It's going to seem like a rerun from 3 weeks ago, and that's because it IS a rerun.<br /><br />I'm making hamburger soup and cornbread for Sunday Dinner this week, for several reasons. For one thing it sounds good again, and for another, it's supposed to be rainy and sharply colder on Sunday.<br /><br />Hot soup and cornbread just hits the spot when it's wet, cold and dreary, and it's easy enough to make and stretch to make more if necessary.<br /><br />What are your plans for Sunday Dinner this week? Share your menu/plans in the comments if you'd like.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhXJ5Aji3yxOKIWF2xP5Hu0JWVjljQ9EVP7m4U5XlGlrdQl1tvR9CnXU3raQ1LkxorYMR_SfAX36WxgZa_P63DDgseu6EkHBMyuCWtHnSweZfSXTXsUlzJ5vSo45pNzt_cOmTf/s1600-h/flowers-row-long.gif"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 24px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhXJ5Aji3yxOKIWF2xP5Hu0JWVjljQ9EVP7m4U5XlGlrdQl1tvR9CnXU3raQ1LkxorYMR_SfAX36WxgZa_P63DDgseu6EkHBMyuCWtHnSweZfSXTXsUlzJ5vSo45pNzt_cOmTf/s320/flowers-row-long.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5450925276832301986" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrOuBAyOb_gNfWHV5ly3HGfTo3FLHYaWoyM0M298Mxk8NUttbJUWxO0GuSVG4i4rthIaub3yI8JKwDRXegLmRozhLB5YUx2qseGd-awlxf_ecNfGgRtpRSpIOFpzhF1QnibOmh/s1600-h/Daffodils.jpg"><img style="float: left; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrOuBAyOb_gNfWHV5ly3HGfTo3FLHYaWoyM0M298Mxk8NUttbJUWxO0GuSVG4i4rthIaub3yI8JKwDRXegLmRozhLB5YUx2qseGd-awlxf_ecNfGgRtpRSpIOFpzhF1QnibOmh/s320/Daffodils.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5450924997379662418" border="0" /></a>The weather has been absolutely gorgeous here for the last few days. It's been in the upper 60'sF and partly cloudy and mild enough at night that I've left my windows open day and night. My daffodils are in full bloom, my flowering quince is bursting with blooms and the other trees and shrubs in the neighborhood are beginning to sprout tiny new leaves.<br /><br />It's almost 10 pm on Saturday night and it's still 60F. The scent of newly mown grass is drifting in the open window beside my recliner, where I'm typing this blog post.<br /><br />But......And there always seems to be a "but", now doesn't there? A winter storm system is moving into Arkansas now and will be here Sunday evening, bringing heavy rain and much colder temps ahead of the main system. Northwest Arkansas has heavy snow falling as I type this on Saturday night and is expected to have as much as a foot of snow.<br /><br />After reaching nearly 70F on Saturday, our temps are supposed to fall all day on Sunday, bottoming out in the 30'sF and with the rain turning into snow for us on Sunday night. It's only supposed to be snow showers and it's not supposed to amount to any accumulation, but we all know what that means: not a thing.<br /><br />Oh Spring, what a cruel joke you're playing on us! So warm and gorgeous now, and on Sunday you're pulling the rug out from under us with torrential rain, freezing cold and then snow.<br /><br />Urg!<br /><br />However, as a disclaimer, and knowing that most people disagree with me, I much prefer the cold weather to the miserable muggy insanely hot weather that's not too far in our future. Not that we get our druthers, as I well know.<br /><br />Pffffttt.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhXJ5Aji3yxOKIWF2xP5Hu0JWVjljQ9EVP7m4U5XlGlrdQl1tvR9CnXU3raQ1LkxorYMR_SfAX36WxgZa_P63DDgseu6EkHBMyuCWtHnSweZfSXTXsUlzJ5vSo45pNzt_cOmTf/s1600-h/flowers-row-long.gif"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 24px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhXJ5Aji3yxOKIWF2xP5Hu0JWVjljQ9EVP7m4U5XlGlrdQl1tvR9CnXU3raQ1LkxorYMR_SfAX36WxgZa_P63DDgseu6EkHBMyuCWtHnSweZfSXTXsUlzJ5vSo45pNzt_cOmTf/s320/flowers-row-long.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5450925276832301986" border="0" /></a>Some news regarding Jessica, Jason and Emmy; Jason and Jessica may be getting back together. They've been talking and doing some deep soul searching, and that's where their relationship stands right now.<br /><br />I'm doing what I've done throughout their marriage, divorce and since then: being supportive, only offering advice when specifically asked for it, and just generally minding my own business otherwise.<br /><br />I'll share more news as it develops and if/when Jessica okays it.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhXJ5Aji3yxOKIWF2xP5Hu0JWVjljQ9EVP7m4U5XlGlrdQl1tvR9CnXU3raQ1LkxorYMR_SfAX36WxgZa_P63DDgseu6EkHBMyuCWtHnSweZfSXTXsUlzJ5vSo45pNzt_cOmTf/s1600-h/flowers-row-long.gif"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 24px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhXJ5Aji3yxOKIWF2xP5Hu0JWVjljQ9EVP7m4U5XlGlrdQl1tvR9CnXU3raQ1LkxorYMR_SfAX36WxgZa_P63DDgseu6EkHBMyuCWtHnSweZfSXTXsUlzJ5vSo45pNzt_cOmTf/s320/flowers-row-long.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5450925276832301986" border="0" /></a>I think that'll do it for this installment.
